A Deer and A Baozi

Chapter 45.5

Borin's POV

I met Ling the day she moved to Korea, it was purely coincidental that we bumped into each other at the airport. I had been waiting for EXO's flight with my camera when she walked into me with her luggage.

"Yah!" I screeched at her when she bumped my camera to the ground. She bowed her head and leaned to pick up my Nikon DSLR camera that I bought with almost all of my savings.

"Sorry," She muttered in choppy Korean not meeting my eyes.

I grabbed my camera from her hands and checked for damages, luckily it was only a small scratch on the button. I sighed and looked at her.

She was a cute girl, her dyed brown hair was long and wavy against her flawless skin. Her eyes were big behind her thick rimmed glasses and her lips were coral pink. Her figure was small and she was about an inch shorter than me.

She bowed her head at me again and walked off. That was what I thought would be the last I'd see of her.

To my surprise, Ling showed up in my lecture on the first day of class. She was sitting a few rows below me with her laptop, tapping away at what the professor was saying.

"Hey, Nam Soon," I muttered hitting the boy next to me. "Who is that."

Back then, Nam Soon had absolutely no sense of style. His hair was so long that it hid his small eyes and acne filled forehead. His wardrobe consisted only of blue jeans, that one pair of Nikes, and gray hoodies, of which he wore today.

He scratched his head and glanced at the girl I was pointing at before returning to his notes. "New student, I don't know."

I guess it was part jealousy when I befriended her that day. She was pretty for a Chinese girl and I was sort of envious of that. I introduced her to Nam Soon, and the three of us eventually became inseparable.

It was only natural that I taught her all the K-pop knowledge I had, just as I did with Nam Soon. I introduced her to 2PM, Big Bang, and eventually my favourite group of all time EXO.

"EXO is my god," I told her as we were watching the Overdose music video. "I literally worship them every day."

Ling's Korean was still choppy back then, so her replies all came with a slight delay.

"I like the music," She smiled at me just as we were about to watch it again.

I clapped excitedly. "You have to pick a favourite!"

Ling gave me a strange look. "A favourite? I can't like all of them?"

I chuckled, Ling was so new to K-pop and it reminded me of how I was like before. I played the video again and she focused her eyes on the members.

"Here!" She paused the video at Luhan and smiled at me.

"He's cute," I nodded in agreement but I knew, no one could beat Sehun to my heart.

"Let's keep going, maybe there's someone else," Ling said excitedly.

In the end, she paused at four members, Luhan, Sehun, Xiumin and Suho. I pulled up their individual pictures on my laptop and placed my arm around her shoulder.

"This is hard," Ling's brows furrowed as her eyes darted from picture to picture. "Sehun then!"
My heart sank a bit as she uttered the name of my bias in the group but I forced a smile. "Great!"

"Who's your favourite Borin?"

I smiled to myself and blurted out the first name that came to mind. "Chanyeol."

To this day, I still don't really understand why I didn't tell her we had the same bias. Perhaps it was because I didn't want to fight over Sehun with her and know that I will lose.

The day I took her to the fan signing was the day that everything went down hill. Ling stood in Sehun's signing line, her eyes tingling with excitement. She waved at me just as I was about to approach Chanyeol with my CD and I forced a smile.

That's the line I should be in.

I still remember the look on her face when she joined me again with a signed CD and Sehun's ring. Her smiling was brilliant and beautiful, to the point that even I could not feel jealous of the fact that she had my bias's ring.

However, since that day, I started to feel just how inferior I was to Ling. Ling had better grades than me, more friends than me, more admirers than me. Even Nam Soon started to change little by little under Ling's guidance. Eventually, I found myself building a deep hatred for Ling. When she smiled, I didn't, when she was happy, I wasn't.

It was around then that I worked as a backup dancer. I tried so hard to get a deal with EXO's dance crew and when I finally did, I felt like rubbing it in Ling's face.
I didn't.

I wanted more than to just rub that in her face, I wanted to show her just how much better I was than her.

I got closer to EXO and more specifically Luhan. He was nice and understanding to everything I did. He was one of the first members that started to treat me differently like I was part of their group. On the other hand, Sehun was a lot harder to get close to. Despite my desperate efforts to get his attention, Sehun did not seem to care at all. To make matters worst, Luhan had explained to me his obsession with the ring girl which I knew was Ling.

I hated Ling, she was ruining my life.

Imagine my excitement when Ling told us she was leaving for China.

"My exchange program is finished," Ling explained, her Korean was a lot better now. "I'll probably come back to visit!"

"We'll miss you!" Nam Soon said as I tried to hide my excitement for her leave.

However a few days after she left, I was fired from backup dancing for EXO. I cried for days in my room, I had let the opportunity of dating Sehun slip through my fingers. To make matters worst, Luhan and Kris left EXO followed shortly by TAO. I guess that was around the time that I started hanging with the wrong crowd.

I met them coincidentally when I was following EXO's schedule one day. It was fair to say that my love for Sehun and EXO had grown to a slight obsession. They were in front of me and were completely blocking my view with their big sign.

"Excuse me," I whined. "How am I suppose to see Sehun like this!"

They looked at me and pushed me to stand in front of them.

"I've seen you in so many schedule locations, why don't you join us?" they whispered. "We are big EXO fans too."

At the time, I had only thought they were a regular group of fans so I agreed. Little did I know that they were really just a group of Sasaengs each with a mission to target a specific member in EXO.

I found myself hanging around them a lot until slowly my views on them changed. They were passionate fans that were driven to get what they wanted and I was one of them. We never did anything extreme like the other Sasaengs though, we didn't want to cause trouble for the members. However, we did discourage fans from getting closer to our biases.

We had weekly meetings about the next target fan who was getting too close so imagine my surprise when one day, the person trailing Sehun came home with photos of Sehun and Ling.

"Oh, I have photos of her too," Another fan said. "I was just about to show you guys."

"She's a nuisance isn't she."

"So? What's the plan?"

It hurt me a little knowing that she returned to Korea but did not tell me, however seeing her with Sehun made me completely forget that pain. It made no sense to me how she could be so close to the EXO members.

Before the plans to scare Ling off were set in action, Ling and I actually met up. When she introduced us to Luhan and Xiumin, it was easy to see through her feelings for Luhan.
That was when I cranked out the plan to rip her away from EXO, using her feelings for Luhan against her.

The fans had planned something extreme for Ling. I didn't know about it until they returned from their plans and showed me the pictures of Ling bruised up and hurt. I was enraged. Ling was my enemy, but she was also my friend. After trashing up their headquarters, I left the group of Sasaengs and eventually, made my own group.

My plans for Ling didn't go the way I wanted it to. I had not expected Sehun to side with her along with the other members.

Splitting EXO in half was your fault Ling, they were supposed to side with me.

All that mattered was that Luhan was on my side. I could see the pain in her eyes every time she looked at him, as though the world has been ripped from her. It was worth the pain I had to endure.

The morning Ling left, I read her letter for me. She apologized to me for not knowing my bias and how she was too close to Sehun which made me angrier. The way she worded the letter made me feel guilty rather than grateful for her apology.

I think the moment I snapped was when Sehun showed me the photo of them kissing. I had never once thought that Ling and Sehun would be dating. As a precaution I made sure to keep Luhan close to me, Luhan who she had a crush on and who didn't believe her side of the story. I sent people to watch over her in China to make sure that she wasn't doing anything involved with EXO any longer.

"Borin," One of the people in China called me one day. "Ling is with Xiumin."

"Xiumin?"

"They're eating ice cream alone."

I couldn't wrap my head around what she would be doing with Xiumin. Ling is dating Sehun.

"I think they're together, they're kissing."

That did it, I left for China that night. Just how many members was she going to seduce until she's satisfied?

After several failed attempts at blackmailing her through text, I had finally decided to call her at the airport.

"Hello?" I was worried she wasn't going to answer.

"Hello, Lingling."

She said nothing.

"How have you been?"

"Borin what do you want." Her voice was firm and confident.

"Chen is going over to give you something you left behind okay? Make sure to open the door for him!"

Chen had been suspicious of me since Luhan left for China. When ever he had the chance to, he would question me about the incident with Ling and about my phone calls. I ended up putting him in with my plans hoping that even if he did find out about the truth, he would not get in my way.

"Borin," She ignored me. "What is your deal anyways?"

"Lingling," I muttered. "You're going to regret playing with the members like that."

"What are you talking about."

I hung up. I waited for them to bring Ling to me at the old dance studio at the end of the street. Everything was going according to plan, Ling will be brough here, and Sehun will follow after.

"Borin," Ling's voice echoed down the hall of the studio. "Borin where are you!"

I smiled at the tinge of anger to her voice. The door to the studio swung open and Ling was pushed inside in front of me.

"Lingling, so nice of you to join me."

"You're not going to get away with this." She muttered under her breath. "You'll be sent to jail."

"Oh, too bad there's no one that can report me." I snickered. "Can you imagine if all of this went public."

She said nothing and looked away from me.

"Look at you Lingling,"

"Look at yourself," She growled. "Look at who you've become."

"YOU MADE ME LIKE THIS!"

We stood in silence, I had nothing else to say to her as they dragged her from the studio to one of the backrooms. I stood in the darkness of the hallway with my hand pressed against my temple, waiting for Sehun to come.

I'm better than her, I'm better than Ling.
