Foreign Love

[Tanime’s POV]

As I’m looking out of the mirror while being driven to the airport, I realize that one of my biggest dreams is finally coming true. I can’t help but smile.

In the backseat my mom is silent. She’s normally very talkative.

I sigh and then say: “Mom, are you okay? You’re very silent..”

She answers without looking at me: “Yes I’m alright. Why wouldn’t I be? It’s going to be hard, these six months without you. But still, I just want you to be happy and pursuit your dreams.”

I smile and answer: “Thank you, mom.”

It’s going to be hard to leave her. She is like my best friend. But this is what I’ve dreamed off the last couple of years. I’m going to live and study in South-Korea. Finally.

My best friend Amanda sighs. She is the one driving.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“I can’t believe you’re really leaving us so soon already” She answers.

I look at her and start to feel a little bit sad again. I remember that we were always talking about going to South-Korea together. But due to some problems she couldn’t come with me.

“I know..” I answer, “It’ll be over before you know”. Amanda is my closest friend. She was the only one I could really open up to about my passion for South-Korea. That’s because she felt the same way like me.

After ten minutes we arrive at the airport.
“So this is it I guess..” I say. My mom comes closer to me. “Let me hug you” She says. While she’s hugging me she’s giving me the whole preach: “Be careful, take good care of yourself, don’t let yourself in with strange people..”

I giggle a little bit: “Yes, mom.. I know! Please don’t worry too much! I love you, I will call you often”

I can see that she gets a bit teared up. “I love you too. You know you’re my only daughter. So I worry too much.”

“I know” I answer with a smile.

“Don’t forget to have fun!” She said.

“I will” I answered.

Next up is Amanda. “Girlll, keep me updated! Omg, still can’t believe it. I’m sooo jealous.” She then gives me a fierce hug. “Bye, girlfriend” I said. “I will miss you!”

I take my bags and walk into the airport. South-Korea, here I come!
