Please Don't Get Too Friendly

After a while, the boys and I decided to go to the vocal training room before my class. Luckily, it was only a floor over the cafeteria so it didn't take much time to get to. After Lay closed the door, Chen asked me suddenly:

"Are you good at singing?"

The others stared at me, waiting for an answer. Although it was an easy question, because their stares were piercing right through me, I went blank for a while before responding hesitatingly:

"I... I think so, but I don't consider that I can judge my aptitudes like that. I feel that it would be kind of arrogant of me to say that I sing really well..." My voice trailed off before the guys began laugh at me, again.

"I think it's okay to acknowledge your own abilities," said Baekhyun, teasing.

"Yes, just like you. You show us every morning that you acknowledge yourself, even when sometimes you shouldn't!" added Chanyeol, which made everyone roll over with laughter.

Baekhyun held his chin high an put his hands on his hips, as if he was saying saying with his body that he didn't care one bit about what his friend just said.

"It's just that I like to practice a lot okay? I'm proud of myself for that," he patted himself on the shoulder. "Anyways, I know you love to be woken up by my angelic voice."

"You mean your off-track, raspy and noisy voice?"

We all kept holding our sides on the floor, crying and laughing, for a good 7 minutes. After we were all tired of making our abs work so hard, Chen turned to me once again.

"Would you like to sing a song with us? So we can see for ourselves if you're good?" he said, winking.

"Okay," I answered timidely. "Which song?"

"Do you have a song of ours that you like?"

I thought for a moment, then nodded.

"If it's okay with you, I'd like to sing El Dorado... I really like it," I blushed. "I'm in love with the high notes Baekhyun does and Chanyeol's rap."

They all nodded. seemingly appreciating my choice. Kai got his phone out and plugged it to a speaker. The first notes rang through the room and I felt myself being moved into another place completely. It felt like a desert. D.O. and I began to sing in unison.

The other guys stared in silence, like they were also moved by the song. I continued to sing, putting all of my feelings into it.

This went on as the other members stared at us, completely mesmerized. I tried not to look self-conscious as I sang with each of the members. Finally, after Chanyeol's rap, the atmosphere got tensed as everyone knew that the high notes I was waiting for were coming quickly. D.O. sang calmly, as if trying to tell me to realx and that it was going to be okay. Baekhyun sang as if telling me to get pumped up and have fun singing the difficult part. Kai did his part, as if telling me that I was anticipated and that everthing right now, in that song, relied on me.

My voice rang through the room clearly, powerfully and especially on the right pitch. They all continued to sing, looking impressed. Although my throat was hurting a bit from the continuous laughter I had during lunchtime and the high note just now, I continued to sing like I was all right. We all sang in harmony, looking at our reflections in the mirror. Finally, the highest note came, where all the pressure was once again put on mine and Baekhyun's voices. We glanced at each other briefly, and then we sang with our most convinced and powerful voices:

I know it's there

We then smiled at each other, proud of the other. Baekhyun's voice had been right on track, powerful, charismatic. I was envious of how he had sounded. Outside, he looked like a boy with only fun and a kind of dumb look. But all that hidden talent inside of him had proven me then that he was indeed part of EXO's lead singers because of that voice. The song finished, leaving us short on breath because of all the energy we used to sing the song. Everything stood still for a second before the other members began applauding us.

"Wow, hyungs! You were really so good there! And Amy, too. You're really a good singer!" Everyone congratulated each other. Pats came on my back and shoulders from everywhere. I smiled and thanked everyone I saw, not really knowing who to look at. We all separated from each other and breathed a bit.

My class began 5 minutes after, so the guys decided to let me rest my voice and calm down before it. I agreed to meet them at 7:30 PM (after all their schedules) so I could go and see their dorm. I didn't think they would have considered me their friend so quickly but I accepted, not wanting to let go of that opportunity to get closer to my idols. Which had apparently become my friends. I smiled to myself before I heard the door open. I immediately got up, believing it was my vocal teacher coming in. But instead, a girl my age came in and glared at me. She came up to me and made me an obviously fake smile.

"Hi, I know you're new here." She then said other stuff I didn't get with a menacing look but I wasn't really intimidated because I didn't get what she said. Then I understood something that caught my attention. "Everyone wants to sing with the EXO oppas, but they don't, because that's a common rule. I don't get why you decided that you had the right to. So get me: if you don't want to make other people like me angry, stop flirting shamelessly like that with them. Understood?"

I nodded, not really minding her. Thankfully, she didn't seem to notice it and smiled at herself before continuing.

"Since you understood, I hope you'll behave properly now. If you do, we can be friends," she said while turning around. She reached the door, thought of something, and turned to me. "Bu the way, my name's Seung Hye. Don't forget it," she added sarcastically and walked out. I raised an eyebrow at her back, curious.

"What was that?" I asked to myself in the big, now kind of lonely room.

Why couldn't the happiness I felt go on?
