The Roller Coaster That Is Life

Chapter 28: Discussing New Paths

G-Dragon’s POV

They were all chilling on the sofa when Nita walked into the house. She looked tried to Jiyong, but she was wearing a smile that lite up the night. She was carrying her duffle on her shoulder, and some files in the arm that wasn’t holding the door open.
“I’m home, guys,” she announced, in her energetic voice. It was complete contrast to the tried look on her face.
“We’re in the living room,” Youngbae announced to her.
“I’m going to go take a quick shower and then I’ll join you guys,” she said, making her way up the stairs.
Jiyong wanted to discuss the collaboration project with the guys before she got too busy with other things. So he decided to broche the subject.
“So after today, have you guys thought about the collaboration project, Yang Sangnim mentioned,” Jiyong asked the others.
“I already said, I didn’t have any issues,” T.O.P said, “plus she and I are going to be auditioning for a drama together. I’m actually a bit excited about that.” That got a reaction from him and the others around the room.
“When did this happen,” Daesung asked.
“I’m sure that’s what Sangnim talked to her about today,” T.O.P announced with confidence.
“Okay, guys, focus. About the collaboration project, what is our final decision,” Jiyong couldn’t let them go onto another topic, till this one was decided on. Jiyong’s gut had been bugging him since this morning’s performance. The way she and Siwon were growing closer wasn’t working for him. He wanted to be the one holding her close, his breath on her skin, his hands on her body. This really wasn’t working for him. If they worked on this collaboration project with her, that would give him time with her, and Siwon couldn’t intrude on that time, because it would be work. He was smiling at the thought of no Siwon near Nita.
“I think it’s a good idea, I was a bit hasty in making my decision about not working with her. I should have paid attention to her,” Youngbae sheepishly said.
“After watching her today, I don’t think there is a question of her work ethic,” Daesung responded.
“Ditto,” Seungri replied.
Jiyong was shaking his head, if all they needed to see was her performing, he would have done something sooner.
“Now, let’s go back to this audition of yours,” Daesung veered the conversation.
“It’s a new drama, Sangnim says Nita would be good for the female lead,” T.O.P answered.
“What’s it about,” Youngbae asked. At this point Jiyong was just listening to the conversation.
“What’s what about,” Nita asked as she made her way to her favorite spot on the sectional. The others never took the corner spot, because that was her favorite. They often found her in that spot on her days off with a book and a blanket, or a bowl of popcorn, and a good movie.
“The drama you two are auditioning for,” Jiyong answered.
“Oh, I found out about that today, I’m kind of scared and excited at the same time. I was actually surprised Yang Sangnim wanted me to do something like that,” she answered, pulling a file from the stack she had brought down with her.
“The drama’s a love story of an ordinary girl who falls for a son of a mafia leader,” T.O.P answered.
Nita looked surprised at the story, “Really,” she asked curiously.
“Humm, they go to college together. They meet, fall in love, she finds out, after some thought she accepts him and his lifestyle, till her parents are killed by his rivals. Then she becomes all bad with no good. After reading the script, I found some of the scenes are pretty steamy,” T.O.P added.
That thought didn’t help Jiyong’s green monster. He trusted T.O.P and knew that any acting was going to be done on a professional level, but the steamy comment was bugging him. Jiyong wondered if Siwon knew about the audition.
“What are the other files about,” Seungri asked, drawing his attention the small stack next to Nita.
“They’re contracts for choreography and music video production,” she answered, opening up another file.
“Choreography and video production,” asked Youngbae, righting himself to a sitting position.
“Yea, apparently Sangnim’s been dealing with this since the beginning of the week. I got three offers for choreography and video concept creation. Sangnim gave me a job for 2NE1, with a contract from SM Entertainment and JYP,” she answered, her attention being given to the file she was reviewing.
This was an announcement to Jiyong, his gut wasn’t lying to him. He had really wanted to work with her first. Now, it looked like he would have to wait in line.
“Why didn’t you tell us about The Fan Girls,” T.O.P asked. It was one of the questions that Jiyong had wanted to ask, he was glad T.O.P brought up the subject.
She looked at T.O.P, closing the file, she crossed her legs under her and grabbed her throw hanging off the sectional.
“What’s there to tell,” she asked, getting comfortable.
“What do you mean, what’s there to tell? We wouldn’t have taken so long on deciding if we knew,” Seungri practically yelled.
“Decide what,” she asked, confusion written on her face.
“Sangnim asked us to collaborate with you, we hadn’t decided on it till just now,” Youngbae answered. Jiyong was shaking his head again, what was the big idea of letting her know the amount of faith they had in her. Now she was probably thinking they didn’t believe in her.
“Oh, okay,” she answered. Jiyong risked a glance in her direction. She was back at opening the file, she was looking anywhere but at them. He understood the feeling, he was doing the same thing at the moment.
“So . . . . .” Seungri hesitated, “have you decided on what you want to do,” he was looking at his feet and picking invisible lint off his pants.
Jiyong waited for her answer.
“Sangnim wants my decision a week before the premiere,” she answered. “I think I’ve already decided on the audition, but I’m not sure about what I should do with the choreography contracts. That’s a big responsibility and these groups aren’t just ordinary, by any means. We’re talking about 2NE1, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, 2PM, Miss A, and GOT7. There fan base alone is scary. I’m just wondering if I can be up to par with everyone,” she answered. Jiyong was looking at her, as she spoke. He could hear the nervousness and anxiety of this decision. She couldn’t see what everyone else saw in her.
“You can do it. You love listening to music, when people watch you, they feel what you feel. I’m sure that’s why, they want you.” Jiyong answered with no doubt in his heart, “You have a way of conveying feelings through your choreography, you mesmerize people.”
If he didn’t have the attention of the others, he did now. He watched Nita's face take on a lite shade of red and she refocused her attention to the file she had in her hands, still on the first page.
“He’s right, how else would you explain your fans,” Youngbae said, “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but your follow count on Instagram has increased quite a bit,” he tossed her his phone, she caught it, looking at the screen, an ‘o’ form on her mouth.
“That can’t be right, how did that happen,” she said, tossing Youngbae’s phone back, and scrabbling around looking for hers. “Omo, it really is in the two hundred thousands,” she was blankly staring at her phone.
“So about The Fan Girls,” Seungri interrupted.
“What do you want to know, V,” she asked exasperatedly.
“Will they ever come and visit you,” he asked, excitedly.
“I don’t think so, they don’t even know where I am,” she answered, her eyes going wide, almost like she had said something she hadn’t meant too.
“Why,” Seungri asked her, Jiyong wanted that question answered as well.
“Well, I think I remember telling you guys that I was kicked out of my house,” she said, looking at them all, “well, that was kind of the truth,” she looked guilty at the floor, so she had been keeping something from them. “It was just that, my relationship with my mother isn’t that great. If anyone knew where I went my mom would have found out and she would have created nothing but problems for me.”
What kind of mother did that? Jiyong wondered.
“If the girls had known then I wouldn’t have lasted this long here. My mother would have found out and I would have had to leave again,” she answered.
“So they don’t know where you are,” Youngbae asked.
“Only Tonya knows, I have talked to them, but I haven’t told them where I am. They don’t even know I work at YG,” she answered, which explained her excitement and happiness when she saw SJ and Tonya at AllCell. To distance one’s self from everything and everyone that is familiar must have been difficult for her.
“Okay, no more questions, just chill and watch TV, Seungri. She’s tried, let her relax,” Jiyong reprimanded. Seungri didn’t think anything about it and did what he was told. Jiyong was glad he didn’t question him.
Nita was sitting between Jiyong and T.O.P, so when she leaned towards T.O.P Jiyong couldn’t help but notice.
“Hey, TopCat. When you have the time I want to practice with you for this drama, if it’s okay with you,” she whispered. T.O.P winked at her and he was rewarded with a smile, Jiyong envied T.O.P. What did he have to do to get her to smile at him like that?
Nita’s POV
As Nita sat there looking at the files Sangnim had given her and watched the guys watch their movie, she couldn’t help reflecting on where she had ended up.
It had almost been a year, since she’d left home. She had gotten lucky when they hadn’t asked anymore questions about her family and her relationship with her mother. Their hearts were in the right place, so she didn’t hold anything against them. But she wasn’t so sure if they would accept her truth the same way. After all she was hiding things from them. Not just G, V, T, D, and TopCat, but the others she called friends.
As she John Hancocked the contract for the drama, she placed it under the others and opened YG’s contract. Reading the contents helped her figure out what was going to be required of her, during the job. It seemed like she could do those things. As she kept on reading, her mind wondered on its own. She had been disappointed when she hadn’t seen Big Bang’s name on the contract. She would have enjoyed working with them.
“Don’t sign it, just yet. We still need to talk to Yang Sangnim, so he can add us,” TopCat whispered, while looking at the screen.
“He’ll call you about the change first, but we do want to work together. Even if the others don’t say it out loud, they’re quite impressed with you,” he finished.
Nita couldn’t help but smile. She would have thought the worst, especially because of T’s comment earlier. Now she just set it aside and went through the others.
By the time the movie was finished and the guys had cleaned up their popcorn and candy mess, she had finished looking over the others. She was still smiling. Maybe with all this work, she wouldn’t have to worry about going back. And if anyone came looking for her again, she could say she had a life here now. It was the truth, her talents were appreciated here and she felt this to be a safe place. If this career prospered she wouldn’t have to deal with anything about her mother or her life back home. She would stay far, far away.
