The Roller Coaster That Is Life

Chapter 1: Disowned

Nita's POV

"Is it true?!" her brother asked her, as soon as she walked through the door.
"Is what true?" Nita asked, confused about what her brother was talking about. Every once in a while her brother would ask random questions, just to fuck with her head.
"Two guys are sitting in the living room, claiming that they BOTH love you and want to be in a relationship with you," her brother says to her, with a You're-In-Deep-Shit smirk on his face, she quickly pushed past him and headed towards the living room. They wouldn't really come to her house and tell her parents about their relationship. Would they?!! Her fast paced walk quickly turned to a full on run in a matter of seconds. Without thought she ran into the living room and saw Aiden and Nathan sitting on her family couch in front of her father and mother.
At one glance she could see the anger and disgust in her father's eyes, and the disappointment and disgust in her mother's eyes. She was right in her decision to never tell them about those two. When both Aiden and Nathan had told her what they wanted to do, she immediately told them not to. They wanted to marry her, they loved her and wanted to spend the rest of their lives with her. She understood the importance of them in her life, but she also knew her family wouldn't understand their relationship, her gut feeling about this was spot on.
"Nita, I'm only going to ask you this once," her father said, in a glacial tone, Nita flinched, she'd never been at the receiving end of that particular tone ever, and it didn't feel good, "are you in a relationship, with both of these boys?" His eyes were bloodshot, fist clenched, and shaking from the anger that radiated from him in waves.
Nita figured she might as well tell the truth, things could only get worse from here, "Yes, dad, I am." *Slap* All Nita felt was the burning on her face, both Aiden and Nathan rose up, but a show of her hand stopped them in their tracks. She only did that when she knew things were going to get worse, they knew that.
"You couldn't even act as if you had any shame! Two men, Nita, two men! Do you understand that you're raising yourself to a whore's status! An Indian woman, can't sleep with two, she's can't be in a relationship with two men, you might as well become a prostitute!" her father yelled, pointing at her the entire time, she knew her father hated her. Why wouldn't he? After a failed marriage, she was a failure as a daughter and sister, she knew what they all thought of her. She didn't say anything.
"Sir," Aiden began, "she hasn't done anything wrong. Please let us explain." Aiden looked as if he was ready to get down on his knees to beg her father. She decided to stop them, she knew that what she was about to do next was going to ruin their relationship forever, but she had to, otherwise they wouldn't leave her.
Nita looked at Aiden and then at Nathan, with a cold stare, "Didn't I tell you that it was a bad idea to talk to my parents? Can't you two read between the lines?! Are you stupid! I DON'T LOVE YOU GUYS!! Why do you think I tried to keep you guys from seeing my family? You need to leave now. Don't bother coming back, I don't want to ever see you two again. You two fucked everything up, I was going to call both of you to end things anyways, you just made it a little bit easier for me." she finished with a smirk. Aiden and Nathan were both sensitive to her, anything she said or did always effected them, and now was no exception. She could see the hurt in their eyes, she could see their heart breaking. She knew that from that moment on, she was never going to see them again.
"You want that as a promise?" Nathan asked, that line was their tell-tale line. They would often use it in front of others to see if they were telling the truth to each other.
"Yes." Nita answered looking him straight in the eye. She loved them both, but she didn't want them to get hurt because of her. They were good fighters, but her father had enough weapons to arm the City of Dallas if he wanted too, not to mention the number of police officers he knew. If her father wanted, he could make their lives a living hell.
Aiden and Nathan looked at each other not believing what they heard, then both of them looked at her, "Well, what are you waiting for?!?," she continued pointing to the door. They didn't need any further guidance, they composed their poker face and walked out the door.
Nita gave herself an inward sigh, that little act put both Aiden and Nathan out of her father's shooting range, now she was the prime target.
"Do you honestly think that after that little act, you'll be accepted again?", her mother asked in an icy tone, Nita had to admit that her mother was a force to be reckoned with, no matter what happened, she always had her husband's back. She was so proud of her parents, of their relationship, she even envied it sometimes.
"I'm talking to you, Nita!!", her mother immediately smacked her across the face, "I asked you a question, don't go thinking that because you dumped those boys in front of us, that your actions will be excused. You have disrespected the family and our values. As of today, you are no longer our daughter, we have no relation with you."
Nita looked up at her mother, she couldn't believe what she had just heard. They were disowning her. She looked towards her father, when she was the same decision, she looked at her brother, he turned his face away. Her father turned his back and walked back to his study. A couple of moments later he returned, with an envelope in his hand.
"As of today, we don't have a daughter. This is some pay for helping us, while staying her. As of today, we longer require your services, you can leave now," her father turn to leave, then stopped and turned his head to look at her from the corner of his eye, "please, be sure to take your belongings with you, before you leave."
Nita couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her family was treating her as if she were a maid living with them. She looked at the envelope and then at her parents again. She couldn't wrap her head around it. They were treating one of their own children as if she were not family, but a stranger. She had thought that they would at least give her a chance to explain herself, but they automatically ruled on judgment. She thought they would at least give her the benefit of the doubt. As her family they were supposed to at least try to understand her, but that wasn't the case. It was in that moment that she decided this was it. When your own blood turns their back on you, all you can do is the same.
"Thank you," she said coldly, "I appreciate that fact that you noticed my work. I'll just be taking my clothes right now, until I figure out what to do next. Please feel free to charge me a storage fee till then for my other belongings, because most of what I have I brought with my own money, that earned," she couldn't help adding that little jab in, partly because they never cared for her, the way they had cared for her brothers, "when I come to get the rest of my things, I'll pay everything off." She had no clue what she was going to do once walking out the door, but she still had her pride. She headed to her room and started packing essentials.
Within an hour she had her essentials packed, her linen and bed things folded and put in the closet, all her belongings on the tables were also stored properly in her closet, she didn't have many things on the walls of her bedroom, so she didn't take her long to gather her things and put them out of sight. She grabbed her luggage and headed towards the door. She stopped by her father's study, "Mr. Singh, I've cleared out the room I was given to use, I placed my belongings in the closet, when I've found a place to stay, I'll come and get everything. Thank you." She turned around without saying another word, making her way to the door, when her brother stepped in front of her, "I'm happy your leaving, you've never done anything to help with anyways, we aren't going to miss you," he said, lightly, there was a hint of malice in his voice.
Nita merely smiled at him, "I know, why do you think I'm leaving, at some point I was going to leave anyways, this just made things easier. I hope I never see you again, and for what it's worth, I'm not going to miss you guys either." Nita knew that she was lying, but from the look on her brother's face, he believed every word of it. Good, she thought, at least everyone will be able to sleep well. Even though she doubted if her saying that would make a difference to anyone now. She grabbed the handle for her luggage and the keys to car off the table. Looking at the keys, she was reminded of another thing, "Oh, and let Mr. Singh know that, I'll pay him back for the full price of the car he brought me too. I don't like owing money to anyone," she said with a glance to her side, before she walked out the door and into the humid air of the evening.
