Grim Reaper

Chapter Five

~Hana~
Slamming my bedroom door behind me, I drop down into my desk chair. That demon sure had sharp claws, that’s for sure. Pulling my curtains to cover my window, I place my right hand on the marks on my leg and start to heal it. I’d only realized that I’d been able to heal myself after I’d been saved by the Demon Reaper. Shaking my head, I quickly rid myself of the thought and heal the rest of my wounds. Changing into the clothes from earlier, I decide to go to the garden and gasp when I enter it. There were lights strung in the trees and lights set in the stone pathway. A few of the flowers even glowed in the dark. We. The word echoed in my head and I remember what that demon had said. He’d said we, not I. Even though I knew that demons usually stayed in groups of two or three, it sounded as if the group he was talking about was larger than that. That’s why we had people here. What was going on? Why did that big of a group of demons kill dad? What was their reason? “Noona?” I jump and spin around, seeing a little boy standing there, a teddy bear in his arms. Crouching down, I smile. “Yes?” “I think its dinnertime, but I got lost in here and I can’t get to the dining room.” He pouts and I grin. “Then I guess noona will take you there. Wanna be carried? Or would you rather walk?” His arms go up and I laugh, picking him up. “Alright, let’s go.” Walking back the way I came, I navigate to the dining room and see almost everyone already seated. Setting him down, I smile as he runs to a couple of elders. He looks like he’s talking fast and then turns, pointing to me. Going to my spot between Maru and Jungkook, I sigh. That little boy was heavier than he should have been. “Where have you been?” Maru asks and I look over at him. “I went for a walk, why?” He shakes his head and appa calls for attention. “As you all know by now, Jang Hana will be living here starting today. No secrets will be kept from her, so boys, please fill her in on the nature of our clans and such. There’s not much to say other than that, enjoy your dinner.”
Walking back to our rooms, I feel like something’s off because Maru isn’t talking. “Something wrong?” I ask and he shakes his head. “Just tired. I’m going straight to sleep, goodnight.” I nod, waving as he goes back to his room. This was the first night that I was without my father. Even if I slept somewhere else, I’d always known that dad was back home waiting for me, but now he wasn’t. There wasn’t even a place to go back to. Walking around the mansion, I nearly run into the little boy again. “Shouldn’t you be in your room?” I ask him and he looks up at me before shaking his head. “I don’t want to sit in my room. It’s boring.” “What clan are you from?” I ask and he sighs. “I’m from Clan one, but I don’t want to be. I wanna be in clan six because they’re strong. Clan one doesn’t even do any fighting.” Smiling, I walk down the hall with him. “Actually, clan one does a lot of things. Some of the people in it do fight, you just need to be good enough to catch the heads’ attention.” “Really?” He looks up at me with hope in his eyes and I nod. “Thanks noona! I’m going to go see mom and dad now!” He runs off and I laugh, shaking my head. He was like a whirlpool, showing up randomly, confusing me and leaving just as abruptly. “Oh, Hana!” I look back and see Myung Ho and Jungkook running to me. “We were supposed to tell you about the clans, let’s go to the common room.” I let myself be dragged back to the common room and they make me sit down in a chair before their explanation begins.
Not able to sleep, I listen to the music on my phone, drawing around my sheathe tattoo. The clock finally makes it to six in the morning and I wash up, pulling on a school appropriate outfit and going out to the bus stop. I figured I’d be bothered by the boys if I went to the bus the same time that they did, so I’d gone early. Dropping down into my usual seat, I put my earbuds in and my eyes widen when we get to my old stop and Min Ah gets on. Her eyes immediately find me and she sits down next to me. She pulls my earbuds out and I look at her. “We’re not even friends anymore, are we?” She asks and I don’t respond. I hadn’t made it like that. I hadn’t meant to make it like that. She’d been the first one to turn away from me. I didn’t really see why she was asking me if she already knew. “We just decided to avoid each other and not even tell each other something life changing. Like, hm, I don’t know, maybe that your dad died.” I don’t have anything to say to it and she scoffs. “Of course, don’t answer me. It’s not like I’ve been your friend since you moved in next door.” I stare at her. “But didn’t you move in after I moved in?” She shakes her head, looking at me in confusion. “No, I lived next to your dad since I’d been born, and I only started seeing you when we were eight. Before that, I hadn’t seen you before.” I look down at my hands, then was my memory wrong? Had it made up fake memories to hide something that I didn’t want to remember? The bus gets to the school and I quickly get up, pushing past Min Ah and running into the school. Everything that happened, I was confused. I was so confused that I didn’t even know what was real anymore. If my memories weren’t real, than what was? Going to my locker, I unlock it, but look over at Min Ah as she stormed towards me. “You shove past me and think that I’m not going to be mad? What’s wrong with you?” She spits and stands in front of my locker as I open it. Instead of me, the possession demon surges into Min Ah’s body and I gasp. It grins with her face and wiggles her fingers. “Too bad I didn’t get you, but this is good too. You wouldn’t be able to stab your own friend anyways.” It says with her voice and walks away. Shocked, I’m frozen until someone taps my shoulder. “Could you move, I need to get to my locker.” I quickly move and slam my own, locking it. I’d just let a demon possess my childhood friend, and the only way to get rid of it was to stab her heart with my scythe. She wouldn’t die, but there would be a scar left from it. She wouldn’t remember it, but she’d be confused as to why there was a scar that she didn’t remember, on her body. My thoughts warred against each other and I go to class, weighing my options. “Why didn’t you wait for us?” Jungkook asks from his seat as I sit down next to him. “I had a few things to do here early.” I reply, my mind still on Min Ah. She looks back and the demon smiles, a disgusting look on Min Ah’s face. It was like a clown’s smile.
By the break between fourth and fifth period, I’d made up my mind. “Min Ah, will you come out to see me please?” The demon grins and nods, following me to the stairwell to the roof. “Get out of her body.” I snarl and it scoffs. “You think if you say it I’ll do it?” “Get out of her body or I will force you out of her body. You don’t want me to do that, do you?” The demon rolls Min Ah’s eyes and in a second, I’d unsheathed my scythe and had it at Min Ah’s throat. “Get out of her body now.” The demon doesn’t answer and I pull my scythe back to stab her. “Wait, don’t you want to know why we killed your father?” I freeze and it makes that sickening smile. “Like I’d tell you. That’d put us out there, and I can’t do that.” My anger boils up and I bring my scythe forward, straight through Min Ah’s heart. The demon gasps, clawing at the scythe. “Even if you get rid of me, there are still dozens of more to come.” It brings Min Ah’s hand up, slapping me and I feel her nails tear into my cheek before the demon separates from her, shriveling to dust on the floor. I quickly sheathe my scythe. “Hana, what happened to your face?” Min Ah gasps as she comes back to herself. “Oh, I fought someone away from attacking you and got clawed in the process, let’s go back to class.”
~Jungkook~
Jungkook knew something was wrong with Hana’s friend, and it seemed that she knew it too. During break, Hana gets up and calls her friend out, so Jungkook quietly follows her, wondering what was wrong. Finding where they’d gone, Jungkook quickly covers his mouth as Hana unsheathes a scythe from the music note tattoo on her wrist. A mask appears on her face, He knew that mask. That was the mask of the unregistered reaper that he’d met during summer break. “Get out of her body now.” She snarls and after some sort of conversation, forces the demon out of her friend’s body. Hurrying back to the classroom, Jungkook puts his head down, confused. Hana was an unregistered reaper that was now living in the center of reaper headquarters. She even lived in clan one, the most powerful one. She was definitely a Demon Reaper.
~Hana~
“Jang Hana, what is wrong with your face?” Cha seonsaengnim asks and I shrug. “A cat scratched me.” “Do cats have nail polish? Go to the infirmary and get it treated. Come back, no skipping.” I do my best not to roll my eyes and quickly to the nurse’s office. Knocking, I don’t see the nurse, so I treat myself.
~Maru~
Jolting awake, I hear the infirmary door slam. I’d only come here to skip, and yet someone was here, interrupting my sleep. “Damn possession demon. Why the hell did it have to be Min Ah?” I look through the curtains that surrounded the bed and see Hana lean in, looking at herself in the mirror. There were four scratches on her cheek, all of them bleeding profusely. Making up my mind, I close my eyes and groan, notifying her that I’m here. “Who’s there?” Hana asks and the curtains around my bed are pulled aside. “Maru, what are you doing here? Are you hurt?” I open my eyes and they widen at how much blood was running from the scratches on her face. “No, I’m skipping. Ya, step back, I don’t want you to drip blood all over me!” She quickly backs up and I get up, making her sit down on the bed. “What happened to your face?” I ask while getting cleaning wipes and a bandage. “A cat scratched me.” I scoff and grab her chin, turning her head so I could clean the scratches. “Ow, that hurts.” “Well then you shouldn’t have gotten slapped.” She looks at me and I sigh. “No one would believe you if you said that you got scratched by a cat, these are definitely marks from a girl’s nails.” “Ow, ow, oww.” She complains and I flick her. “If you’re going to keep moving then I’ll just let the infection set in.” “Ani, keep going.” She says and reaches forward, holding onto the sides of my shirt. Her hands tighten on the fabric as I finish cleaning the wounds and I chuckle. “There, now go back to class.” I say as I pat the bandage on her face. “Ani, you need to go to class too.” I quickly shake my head. “What’s your class number again? I remember that Yugyeom told me that you guys had the same class.” “1-3, but don’t change the subject.” Hana grins and grabs my arm, pulling me out of the infirmary. “Jang Hana, what are you doing?” Her teacher asks as we walk past her classroom. “Returning a kid to his class.” She says and I click my tongue. “What’s your teacher’s name?” She asks me. “Ming seonsaengnim.” I sigh, I was going to class whether I wanted to or not. “Ming seonsaengnim, I’m returning your student to you. It seemed he was in the infirmary and started feeling better.” Hana says as soon as we enter my classroom and Yugyeom’s jaw drops before he starts laughing. “Thank you, Miss Jang Hana, set him down next to Yugyeom.” The teacher smiles and I’m forced to sit down. “I’ll get you for this later.” I hiss as she leaves. “What’s up? I thought you said no one could force you to come to class?” Yugyeom teases and I glare at him.
~Hana~
Waiting for the bus, I groan as someone puts me in a headlock. Looking up, I see Maru. “Ugh, why. It’s your fault for not going to class.” He tightens the headlock and I give in. “Fine, it was my fault. Can you let go now so I can get on the bus?” He lets go and I stick my tongue out at him before getting on the bus, the boys following. “I was so surprised! I didn’t think that Maru would be dragged into class by Hana!” Yugyeom hoots as we sit down. “It’s always a privilege to force delinquents to go to class.” I laugh and Maru glares at me. “Okay, fine, ditchers. Better?” He looks out the window and I shrug. Getting to our stop, we get off and I pause to tie my shoe as the others walk ahead. Done, I get up and walk after them but suddenly someone appears in front of me and their fist slams into my solar plexus, forcing me to bend over, trying to breath. They quickly cover my mouth with a handkerchief and I smell chloroform. Demons.

xD Yeah, it just kind of happened like that as I was writing. I'm one of those people that improvises while I write and doesn't plan anything out but how it's going to start... \(~.~)/
