Somebody to Love

Chapter 2

I clicked my fingers against the desk, my eyes glued to my phone as I waited for a reply from the guy, Kan, in which had given me his phone number. Of course I chewed him out as an excuse for him to know I wasn't ignoring him and for some reason desperately waited for a reply for what seemed like hours. It was really only 5 minutes.
Finally my phone lit up and I quickly clutched it in my hand, curious as to how he would reply to my vicious rambling. I clicked on the message to receive a blunt response, "If you want to continue, meet me at Coffee HQ." Exactly the kind of response I would expect from someone like him. I knew where this was leading, he was hitting on me again, twice from one person in one day. My heart began to race at the thought as my fingers lingered over the letters, unable to find the right response.
"Fine." I clicked the send button and watched any hope of getting out of the situation fly away in one simple word. Why did I type that?!
My head slammed painfully against the desk before I slumped out of the chair and changed out of my school uniform and into a comfortable pair of blue jeans and a black t-shirt. I grabbed my backpack, knowing that the weight of all of the books inside would be a helpful weapon if I needed one and hurried out the door. The coffee shop that I was told to meet Kan at was just a few blocks which, thankfully, spared me the embarrassment of riding my bike in public.
Kan was already seated in the shop with two cups of hot black coffee in hand when I clicked open the door. He quickly stood up as if I was royalty, almost spilling the coffee, with a large smile glittering his face, "Hi." he said as he held out one cup of coffee, "I don't know why I agreed to come here." I replied as I slid into the seat opposite him, "I do." he smiled and leaned farther against the small table.
My eyebrows rose in curiosity, "Really? Why am I here then?" I folded my arms and leaned inward, almost making us as close as he had earlier that day, "You like me." He replied as if it was obvious which made me break out into laughter. Despite my response on the outside his statement made my heart race. I ignored it and looked into his cold brown eyes, "Why would I like someone like you?"
He sat back in his chair, contemplating the possible responses. He dropped his playful expression and looked directly at me with a serious gaze, "Do you really not know who I am?"
"Yea, I do." I responded, my voice low as I averted eye contact, "You're famous right?" I recalled after remembering how I had seen him on TV when applying for the school. I remember the announcer saying that he would be returning to his high school after his world tour which meant he was most likely a performer of some kind, "Do you know what I'm famous for?" He pushed as if he wanted to conform that he was well known, "No."
My response left him speechless and his mouth flew agape. He quickly grabbed my wrist and pulled me outside, leaving the coffee's abandoned in the store. He sat me at a nearby bench and stood a few feet in front of me. He tapped on his phone for a few seconds before setting it next to me on the bench and began to dance along to the music that came out of his phone.
After a few seconds he looked at me as if hoping I would show some recognition, "You're a dancer?" I guessed, confused as to why I needed to know. "There's more than that." he folded his arms and waited for me to continue, "You're... in a band?" I hoped I got it right this time as my eyes lingered to the coffee left in the shop behind me, "Eh, close enough.." he sighed and picked up his phone as he sat next to me pulled one of his arms around me, "What are you doing?" I asked as I looked from him to his arm, "Waiting."
"Waiting for what?"

"For you."

"What about me?"

"I'm waiting for you to change your mind." His eyes searched mine as if he thought the situation would somehow change now that I knew he was famous, "Change my mind about what?"
He avoided my question and sat back against the bench, looking up at the sky, "I've never met a girl like you before."
"What do you mean?" I looked in the opposite direction hoping it would help calm my racing heart, "Every girl I've ever met has gone crazy just being in the same room as me, but you," I would feel his breath against my neck as he continued talking, "you don't even look at me."

I quickly rose from the bench, "Maybe there's a reason for that. You think you own everyone and everything because you have looks and money." I began to walk in the direction I had come from, upset at myself for wasting my time here as if he would be any different than he was at school. I suddenly remembered the coffee and doubled around into the store to grab my drink, feeling his eyes on me the entire time, "Thanks for the coffee."
