Somebody to Love

Chapter 1

I was alone.

A distant, forgotten memory.

Not even my family wanted me..

I reluctantly pulled on my school uniform and carefully slid the silk of the ribbon through my fingers as I tied it around my neck and folded the collar down. I breathed in a deep, reluctant sigh and used what little cover up I had to hide the black spots under my eyes from another restless night and slipped into my shoes.
My clock still read 7:30, a half hour before school started. I didn't want to arrive early for fear of someone approaching me, I don't do well in social situations, so I sat on my bed, carefully listening to the clicking of the clock, it's rhythm hypnotizing. I soon found my eyes sliding to a close as my body fell limp against the hard bed once again.

I startled myself awake and fixed my hair back in its original position before checking the clock: 8:20. I had fallen asleep for the first time in many nights. I shook myself back awake and quickly grabbed my bag, I had made myself late.
I rode on my ancient, rusty bike as fast as my legs would endure, the wind brushing against my cheek. The school campus was completely empty except for an occasional couple that had slowed their walking to gain more time with each other. I parked the bake at an abandoned tree near my first class and tightened my hands around my bag straps as I gulped back the fear of a thousand eyes on me as I entered the classroom. My feet reluctantly began to walk forward as my heart raced. I slid the door to the classroom open and quickly gave a slight bow, feeling my cheeks flush, "Ah you must be the new student." The teacher shook off my late entry with a heavy set smile and helped me make my way to the middle of the room, "Why don't you introduce yourself?"
He stood back slightly and I finally raised my head, struggling to say anything through my fear. I could hear my classmates begin to whisper, about me no doubt, and shook the fear away, suddenly gaining a bit of confidence which usually came in slow measures but this time hit me like a ton of bricks.
"My name is Lee Yu Ri-second year. Nice to meet you." The tone in my voice shocked not only me but everyone around me. I stuck to the bleak demeanor I was giving off and slung my bag over my shoulder before walking to an empty seat towards the back of the class, managing a small sigh through the noise as everyone welcomed their new classmate. Before anyone could take note of my false performance I quickly pulled out a thick textbook and began to turn to the page the rest of the class had been on before I arrived. I held my head in the textbook, pretending to read the text as my heart pounded out of my chest. I could barely see the movement of a figure out of the corner of my eye before lifting my head from the desk to see an evenly folded sheet of paper in-between two pages in the textbook.
I clasped the thick, rough sheet of paper and silently unfolded it to find a simple sentence glittered across the page 'meet me after class at the tree outside'. I blinked away my confusion and began searching the room for who the paper might belong to but noticed everyone had their nose in their books. I folded the paper back up and put it in the back of the book as well as the back of my mind.

After two hours class had finally ended and my curiosity began to surge through my body, what does the owner of the paper want? I quickly shoved my books into my bad and strung it over my shoulder like I had done before as I left the classroom. I could feel the heavy gaze of everyone in the halls and rushed to the exit Within minutes I was finally outside of the lingering gazes and made my way to the abandoned tree to which I had been instructed to meet the stranger at. A figure leaning up against my bike caught my attention as I began to move closer to the mysterious person.
With seconds to spare the man caught onto my presence and stepped away from the bike and towards me, his hands shoved into his pockets and dark brown hair curling around his oval face and ending at his thick lips. "Yu Ri right?" He asked once I was in earshot. I nodded reluctantly as he bit his lip nervously, his eyes lingering to a random object far away to avoid eye contact, "Guys are going to be asking you this a lot lately, and I know you don't know me but I was thinking I could help you blend in more if you want to go out with-"
"She's taken." I suddenly felt a hand around my shoulder and a presence lingering over me, pulling me close. The stranger finally looked towards me, a look of both shock and terror filling his face, "O-oh sorry... I just thought-"
"Don't think." I tried to wrap my head around the situation, unwilling to look back at the man behind me as he continued speaking, "Why else do you think such a beautiful girl would transfer to this school?"
I finally got the courage to pull away slightly and look behind me to see a stern set of eyes and sharp jaw line with bright hair that illuminated his flawless face, "C'mon Yu Ri." He smiled, grabbing my wrist and leading me back into the school where conversations were flying rapidly back and fourth and heavy gazes were turned to me, vicious eyes seeping from all directions. A large group stood in front of the man that held my wrist, who stopped abruptly, "Kan, are you really dating that girl?" One of the girls looked up to him with pleading eyes as if expecting the situation to be a joke, "Of course."
I could hear the smirk behind his response and struggled to release his grasp to be thrown in a close embrace, my eyes clenched shut. When I finally opened them seconds later, the silence in the hall making me nervous, I found that the stranger, Kan, was just a breath away from me, our lips touching slightly.
My cheeks turned a bright red before I pulled away. My hand had already hit his face before I knew I was even mad. I stormed off in the opposite direction, recognizing the sound of the murmurs throughout the halls continuing. I could hear the distant footsteps of what I assumed was "Kan" and quickly turned around, "What?"
I folded my arms, still irritated as the tall red haired male came to a halt just feet away, "I didn't mean to upset you I was just trying to help." he tried to justify his actions, "Well stop trying." I threw his own phrase back in his face before turning back to continue in the direction I was headed in before, "Wait." He called after me, his footsteps speeding up before they came to a halt in front of me, "I really am sorry. Will you give me another chance?" He smiled, attempting to look into my eyes as I avoided his gaze. "Well think it over." He said after a few seconds and pulled out a piece of paper and a pen.
He quickly wrote on the page as if I would leave at any time even though my heart was racing too fast to move. He handed me the slip of paper and began walking in the opposite direction. I looked to the page to find a 10 digit number and two words, 'call me.'
I turned around, my eyes wide: had I just been hit on twice on the first day of school?
