Everything's New
first day !
"Ye Hyun!" Jina called. "Come out for breakfast you lazy bug!" Jina was my cousin. Ever
since the accident, I moved in to live with her. "Hey Jina what's for breakfast?" "IT'S YOUR
FAVORITE GALBI KID. I thought you would be nervouse for your first day of school, so I
made it for you haha." It was true. I was nervous for the first day of school. It was my first
time going to a school in Korea since I've lived in LA all my life. The clock in my house
showed 7:20. I figured it was almost time to leave. "Hey Jina, didn't you say it was your first
day of work today too?" She must have not known the time because she just screamed and
ran out. "Ye Hyun, have fun and call me when you need me!" she cried as she left. After she
left, the house felt so empty and big. I noticed I had to leave soon too. I turned off all the
lights, grabbed my backpack and left.
Korean streets were so unfamiliar I couldn't dare to ride the bus. I had to walk all the way
to school which was almost 10 blocks. "FINALLY I'M HERE" I walked inside the counseling
office to find my new teacher and class. Luckily my new teacher was inside the office with
me. "안녕! 네이름이 예현이라고했지? 난단임선생님 종석쌤이야" He was my homeroom
teacher and he showed me the way to my new class. "GUYS GUYS we have a transfer
student from LA. Her name is Ye Hyun. Treat her well. Ye Hyun, go sit in the empty seat in
the back." Everyone was staring at me like I was some new alien creature in space. Korean
schools were a lot different than the ones in LA. You had to slide the doors open and you
had your own cabinets. I got assigned on a seat next to a smart looking boy. I tried to be
nice and started a conversation first. "Hey what's your name? I'm Ye Hyun." The boy didn't
answer me of even look at me. Oh yeah.. they don't know any English.. I quickly translated
what I said into Korean so he would understand. "Haha, sorry I don't know any English. My
name is Jae Min! Nice to meet you Ye Hyun!" He smiled at me. I figured he was kind of cute,
but I decided to trash those thoughts away. My first day of school, oh well not so bad.
