The Aftermath
Chanyong POV
The man lay unconscious on the street a few feet in front of my car. I didn’t notice him as I was turning and I hit him. I quickly got out and rushed over to him. Kneeling down next to him, I took out my phone and called 119. Someone picked up after the second ring.
“119, what’s your emergency?” the operator asks me in a calm voice.
“I just hit a man with my car. His head is bleeding and he seems to be unconscious.” I respond as calmly as I can.
“Where is the victim located?”
“At the park near 512 Daechi 2(i)-dong, Gangnam-gu.”
“What is happening right now?”
“I am kneeling next to him checking for breathing and a pulse. I am also keeping pressure on the wound.”
“Where is the man lying?”
“On the side of the road.”
“Okay, do not move him from there. There is an ambulance on its way.”
“Alright, thank you.” I say to the operator.
The operator hangs up, and I look down at the man. I can feel his pulse and he is breathing. It doesn't seem as if he has any serious injuries, but he is still unconscious. I notice he is holding his phone in his hand. Maybe I can find a way to contact his family. I take it and turn it on. His lock screen is a picture of a woman who looks around the same age as him. Maybe she is his wife. I try to unlock the phone, luckily he doesn't have a password. I pull up his contacts and try to find someone who is related to him. As I scroll, I see a contact with the name ‘Char Yeobo’. I assume that she is his wife and call her.
“Taekwoon-ah, why did you call?” I hear the woman say.
“Uh, hello. This is Kim Chanyong. Are you Taekwoon-ssi’s husband?” I ask her.
“I am, why?”
“He has been in an accident and is unconscious. An ambulance is on the way to get him.”
“Oh my gosh! Is he okay? Where are you? I will go there right away!”
“Calm down. It would be better if you met us at the hospital. I will get them to take him to Sun Medical Center.”
“Alright” She answers me with a shaking voice. “I will go there right away.” Then she hangs up.
‘She won’t be thanking me for long’ I think. I hear sirens getting closer and soon I can see the ambulance.
When it arrives, the paramedics get out and bring a stretcher over to Taekwoon. As they are putting him on and wheeling him over to the ambulance, one of them comes over to me.
“Hello sir. If you could, could you please come with us to the hospital.” He asks me.
“Of course.” I respond. I follow him to the ambulance and get in. I hear the sirens start up again and feel the ambulance speed towards the hospital.
