'Your Laughter Makes The Flowers Bloom'
Dul
“Hey! There’s someone on your doorstep!” my friend Seol Hyun yells to me as she peeks through the window. I come rushing from the kitchen and take off my apron, place it on a chair.
“Mom?” I greet her cheerfully since I haven’t seen her for two weeks. I look over her shoulder, twice, but I see no one else.
“Where’s my sister? Wasn’t she supposed to come to Korea today?” I smile curiously.
The corners of her mouth turn upside down, facing the ground and her eyes turn blank and empty.
“Mom?”
She sighs without a sound and steps boldly into my apartment. Mom sees my friend but doesn’t care about her presence when she speaks out the words I’ve been too afraid to hear.
“Your sister is gone…”
A long long silence follows. I have to sit down on the floor. Let it sink in slowly. I fear no pain, not being alone or having to walk through fire. But this is something I was afraid of. She had this illness only few others had and there was no treatments what so ever that could have helped her, even a little bit. My sister was doomed to go. And we wouldn’t know when. At any moment, it could have been the end of her journey. But as the time had passed, I had stop worrying about it too much and I had stopped carrying the endless heavy burden on my shoulders when she had told me not to. But now it cought me on surprise.
What were my last words for her…?
“Take lots of pictures at the prom! You are going to look so pretty in that pink dress with glitters and flowers and all! I love you!”
I said it. At least I said that I love her because I do love her so much. She’s my cute little sister. A bit cranky at times but that’s why she’s a part of my family. We have some guts.
“Her body will be transported here and the funeral is organized on Sunday,” mom tells me without any expression. The bags under her eyes show that she has cried out all the tears she could and all that was left is the empty place in her heart.
“Okay,” I whisper silently as an answer. Seol Hyun is frozen on her chair, staring at the kitchen table surprised and a bit ashamed of having to witness this tragical moment which doesn’t really have anything to do with her.
After the notification, mom leaves and gets back to her home organizing the funeral: choosing the coffin, picking the prettiest flowers and deciding on the most meaningful words suited for her precious daughter. For my most important and only sister I ever had.
I’m walking along the corridor. People are passing by and I’m not showing them how sick I feel at the moment. I haven’t realised what has happened yet, so I’m constantly waiting for the moment when the reality hits me hard and I get over the shock. I don’t know what will happen then…
“You laugh like a girl!” I hear Taehyung's voice shouting behind a door that is slightly open. I slow down my pace and peek through the crack.
Jimin grins at his dongsaeng painfully, quieting down after what he had been talking about before.
“Jimin is a girl… Little girl, little girl, Jimina,” Taehyung sings happily with a wide smirk and eye smile on his innocent baby face and disappears behind another room that leads to the studio.
Jimin shakes his head from side to side, not looking amused at all. Then he looks up and suddenly our eyes meet. I get startled.
“Dariya?” he seems surprised seeing me here. I open the door slightly more now that I’m discovered.
You know my name?
“Of course I know your name! You’re working here.”
What!? How did you…?
“You looked so surprised. Of course I know you.”
“Oh,” I sneer astonished of the discussion I didn’t even participate in.
“A-are you okay?” I manage to mumble out. His short shorts makes it hard for me to breath and the tank top doesn’t make it any easier. His hair is such a mess that I would die to be her stylist and to be able to do some magic on it.
“Yeah! Why are you asking? Of course I’m fine,” he answers with a little smile.
“Oh. Umm… You looked so…? Taehyung mentioned your —”
“Laughter?” he completes the sentence and I nod.
“Yeah,” he sneers. “I’d just like to be a manly man but what can I do when I sound like a little girl, right?” he ends it with a short laughter.
“Oh, no!” I shake my head and take a step closer.
“Your laughter sounds beautiful!” I blurt out without hesitation.
“Really? You think so?” he smirks adorably and I happen to sit down next to him as my legs won’t work any longer.
“Yeah,” I smile widely like and idiot. “It’s so full of life and happiness.”
“Really?” he can’t help smiling and showing off his bright white teeth.
“Yes. It’s so cute and it brings a smile to your fans’ faces. Isn’t that important?”
“I guess it is then.”
“And, sorry, but I just have to say that I think that when you laugh everything becomes so much better. I mean… Your laughter heals.”
Jimin stares at me with a serious expression, trying to hold back his adorable laughter. But then he gives up and giggles out loud. I can’t help laughing myself too.
“See?” I smirk and see him looking at me with gratefulness. He pats my leg for a few times before standing up and heading for the studio door.
“Thanks,” he glances at me.
“You are such a valuable helping hand around here,” he says.
“And a pretty funny one too.”
I blush. Before I even realize, he has left me in the room alone. I think I’m not fine at all. My mental state is very unstable at the moment. But at least I got a little moment of happiness in my life while meeting him like that. Thank you, Park Jimin.
