Spirits

~Eun Hae~
Sitting back down at my desk, I'm suddenly surrounded by excited girl detectives. "How was it?" "Were they as handsome as they say?" "Can you get an autograph from them for me?" Those three questions were repeated until it built up and I yell "Get back to work or I'm putting you on bathroom duty!" They quickly scurry off and I put my head in my hands. Who knew that I was going to meet them in this place? I felt bad about bringing up Sunggyu's eomma, but she wouldn't stop bothering me. "Look, that's the team leader that's called Fire and Ice. She has an explosive temper, but she's able to solve cold cases like it's nothing. I want to be like her when I get more experience." One of the new kids whispers to another and I snort, yeah right, like you'll be able to see spirits and do what they want. All I do is help them resolve their grudges and allow them to be reborn. My cell rings and I pick it up, "Deh?" "I-is this Detective Eun Hae?" A woman's voice asks, and I confirm it. "Is it true that you can solve cold cases?" Curious, I say "Deh, but why?" "M-my daughter was found on the side of the road and the police just wrote it off as a hit and run, but I don't think it was. C-could we meet somewhere to talk about this?" Glancing at the clock, I see that it's time for me to clock out and I agree with the lady, telling her to wait for me at the coffee shop down the street. Pulling on my old military jacket, I remember that I'd worn this on the first day I met the boys. Shaking my head, I grab my bag and walk down to the coffee shop. A woman with graying hair gives a little wave when she sees the badge that hung from the chain on my neck and I quickly order a coffee and sit down in front of her. "Detective Eun Hae, right?" She asks and I nod, sipping my cup of warmth and caffeine. A folder is slid across the table and I look at her. "These are the files that the police gave me when they made the case cold. I've also added some of the things I've had a private investigator look into." Nodding, I open it and take out the picture of the young girl

"This girl's name is Minji, neh?" I ask, still staring at the little girl, feeling sad that this young thing hadn't lived out her life. "Mm, I hope you can help me find the culprit of my baby's death." I nod and ask her to give me a few days. She thanks me multiple times as I leave, going to my apartment. As soon as I open the door, the lights turn on and I hear someone shout "Surprise!" I drop my coffee and feel it splash on my legs. Appa quickly runs forward with a towel and pats at my legs, but the only things that I see is the witch. "Aish, you shouldn't have dropped your coffee." Appa murmurs and I quickly crouch down, pulling him to his feet. "It's fine, it doesn't hurt. What are you guys doing here?" I'd forgotten that since the police hadn't had enough evidence that the witch had hit me, they let her go. "Silly girl, she even forgot her own birthday." The witch scoffs and it dawns on me. Wow, I met the boys again, I got a new case to solve, and I have to deal with the witch for the rest of the night, what a wonderful birthday. "Ah, neh. I forgot, but I'm not feeling well anyways, so maybe in a few days, hm?" I give appa puppy dog eyes and he reluctantly agrees. I finally shut the door behind them and quickly clean up the coffee. When I look up, I fall back onto the floor, staring at the little girl from the picture, Minji. "M-Minji ah?" I ask, hoping she's too lost to hear me. When she looks at me I silently curse myself but give her a small smile. "Can you help me? Your eomma is very sad right now, I'm trying to make her happy." The little girl nods, grinning at me. Poor thing, doesn't realize she's dead yet, but sometimes that's better for the children spirits.
My alarm rings and I glance at it before rolling out of my bed, onto the floor painfully. Grabbing my bag, I quickly get to the precinct and take a shower there, sitting down at my desk before any of my kids get here. Pulling Minji's folder out of my bag, I scan what she'd told me last night and she suddenly appears next to me. "Ah, Minji ah, do you know where he is?" I ask, referring to the culprit. She nods and I get up, grabbing my bag and putting the folder in it. "Gaja," I give her a quick smile and follow her out to my car. I follow her pointing and park outside of a ratty looking apartment complex. "Are you sure this is where he is?" I ask and she looks like a bobble head. "Okay, okay. Let's go." I follow her into the building and up three flights of stairs until I'm standing in front of 307. Taking a deep breath, I knock.
