Liar
Wǒ ài nǐ.
Jae Mi
Following the nurse down the familiar hospital halls, I'm told to wait in my regular room. My doctor had called me in because one of his graduate students had come back to Korea and had decided to help me. Pulling up my sleeve, I slowly take off my sports band and stare at the cuts that ran across my wrist. I hear the doorknob turn and quickly put the band back on and pull my sleeve down, turning to face the window, away from the door. The door opens and two pairs of steps come in, the door closing behind them. "Wait," That one word sent lightning through me. That familiar voice. Spinning around, I see Kang Woo standing next to my doctor, his eyes wide. "Jae Mi, what are you doing here? I thought I had a patient with a heart disease," I stare at him, fear starting to build up. "Kang Woo, you know Jae Mi?" My doctor asks and I quickly back up to the window. "She's my sister. Why is she here?" "She didn't tell you?" That sentence echoed in my head and I slide down the wall, covering my ears although I could still hear them. "Jae Mi does have the heart disease that I told you about." I hear my brother suck air into his lungs and he rushes forward, grabbing my shoulders. "Why? Why didn't you call me? Why didn't you tell me?!" I'm too shocked that he was here that I couldn't answer him. "WHY?!" He roars and I whimper, he was crushing my shoulders. "Kang Woo-ah," My doctor carefully pries his hands off of me and pushes him into a chair. "I'm calling mom and dad, I bet you haven't told them. I'm going to call them right now even if it's the middle of the night where they are." His words send me over the edge and I start to have a hard time breathing. I was getting an attack. Staggering to my feet, I grab my bag and my trembling hands search for my medicine. Shoving one into my mouth, I force myself to swallow and Kang Woo is at my side. "Jae Mi-ah, gwenchana? Gwenchana?" He knew I damn well was not alright, but kept on asking. "Stop!" I scream and he immediately stops talking, backing up a little. Grabbing my bag, I shove past both of them and bolt out of the hospital. Going to opposite direction of the apartment buildings, I find myself in a remote park, the sun starting to sink in the sky. Pressing my palms against my eyes, I stop myself from crying and reach into my bag, pulling out my pocket knife. Dragging it across my wrist, I watch the beads of blood race down my wrist onto the ground. I might as well just die here, bleeding to death instead of my parents knowing. Instead of Luhan knowing. Instead of being called a Liar.
Luhan
I jump as my phone rings and quickly pick it up, not taking my eyes off of the baseball game playing on the TV. "Hello?" "Luhan?" Kang Woo hyung's panicked voice asks and I turn off the TV. "Hyung, what's wrong?" "I can't find, Jae Mi. I got in a fight with her because I came back and she ran off. Can you help me find her?!" I agree and quickly hang up, clicking on the app that I'd installed on my phone to track her. I'd given her a necklace for one of her birthdays and she never took it off. It was actually a tracker. Shoving my feet into my shoes, I follow that directions of where the blinking dot was on my screen and I find her passed out on a bench, blood dripping from her wrist. Ripping cloth from my shirt, I quickly bind her wrist and grab her things, carrying her to my apartment and setting her down on my bed. Grabbing the first aid kit, I carefully unwrap her wrist and clean the blood from it, jolting from the shock of seeing multiple cuts on it. Shaking my head, I focus on bandaging her wrist and her eyes slowly open as I finish. "Luhan," She whispers and I glance up at her. "Mm," I answer, packing up the first aid kit.
