The Vampire Xia

The Vampire Xia

Over the next week Awen’s vision slowly returned, her wrist had healed in two days and most of her strength had returned as well. Currently she was in the training room with Lilith and Mizushima. Her eyes were blindfolded because they were still partially silver but this allowed her to work her other senses.

Lilith darted at her from the right, Awen shifted, dropping low and rolling, popping back to her feet and blocking Mizushima’s fist with her arm, using the force to twist his arm up and aim a fist to his chest. He was just as quick and rolled away before the hit landed.

Awen growled and jumped back to avoid Lilith’s kick, hands reaching up, grabbing her ankle and pulled. She grinned as Lilith landed hard on her ass with an exclamation of pain. Pay back for the punch to her kidney earlier. A high pitch whistle sounded and everything stopped.

“Not bad, Awendela” Moore called from the side lines, “looks like you are almost 100%”

Awendela and Lilith had had a huge argument over her training in order to recover. Lilith had said it made no sense to train and wear the body out when it was recovering. Awen pointed out that unused muscle became soft muscles. After a heated debate at the breakfast table, that became a shouting match between them. Moore came to middle ground that Awendela would train under his supervision and Lilith could help and determine when to stop.

“Come on Lil!” Awendela groaned, “just because I knocked you on your ass doesn’t mean we should stop.”

“That has nothing to do with it! You are tired!”

Awendela arched an eyebrow at the woman, which pulled the blindfold slightly.

“It doesn’t!” she snapped.

The two of them had become fast friends over the last week. Awendela turned towards the dark chuckle that belonged to the Xia. She had felt him enter the room a while ago.

Awen nodded her head to him, the most he got from her since he was not her liege lord.

~You are keeping up well with two vampires~

~I keep up well with more then that~

~I am sure~

Awendela wanted to remove the blindfold but couldn’t until her eyes were completely brown again. So far everyone believed her eyes were still injured but healing. She told them they would heal on their own that no medical attention was needed and that already her vision was starting to return but they were sensitive to light.

They would be returning to the main castle in the afternoon. Awendela was annoyed that they were returning before she was completely healed because until then, she was officially off duty.

The Xia hadn’t taken any blood from her in the last three weeks as well, and she could sense a weakening in their connection. She wondered briefly when they would start it again.

“When are we returning to the main castle?” she asked out loud in order not to be rude to those in the room.

“We are flying out in three hours,” Moore replied.

She opened her mouth to ask about security but a hand over it stopped her.

“I got it,” Mizushima said in her ear.

A shiver ran down her spine and she took a step away from him. She hadn’t sensed him at all and she didn’t like it.

“I will come by in an hour to go over the security measures I prepared.”

“Thank you Mizushima, I would appreciate that.”

Mizhushima chuckled and walked away; she released a breath and shook her head angry with herself. Her guard was very down. She trusted these people too much. Her walls needed to come back up but the thought left a bitter taste in her mouth. She had been enjoying herself with these vampires and building her walls meant shutting them out.

She gave the Xia a curt nod of her head and left the training room to walk to her own rooms. Her blindfold was sheer enough that now that her eyes were opened she could get to her room unaided.

There she showered and changed into her leathers, something familiar and comfortable. Also if they were attacked leaving, she could fight. Despite her ‘off duty’ status, internally she was still gauging threats to the Xia. Much to everyone’s amusement, she insisted to be kept up to date with the security measures; that just because she couldn’t fight didn’t mean she couldn’t continue working through administrative duties.
A soft knock at her door told her Mizushima was at her door. Awen checked her eyes in the mirror and growled softly at the residue silver/grey despite her returned vision. She tugged the blindfold on before opening the door.

“How long until you can take that off?” Mizushima asked in greeted.

“Hopefully tomorrow,” she replied back walking into the room, hearing the click of her door close, as she sat down at the small sitting area, which connected to her bedroom.

Awen heard Mizushima settle in the chair across from her, she heighten her senses and opened her eyes behind the blindfold to see his shadowed form making himself comfortable in the plush armchair.

“Your tense,” he commented.

“Damn vampire senses,” she muttered, because there was no point in denying it.

One thing she still didn’t like nor had grown use to was just how well vampires could sense her mood through their sense of smell. Everyone regardless of species released pheromones and vampires could smell them. She could sense pheromones herself if they were in heighten levels and she was more sensitive to vampire pheromones then other species because of her long years of interaction with them.

“The security details?” she asked ignoring his comment, noticing he had brought no paperwork.

“You know I hated you at first.”

She blinked under the blindfold; she had not expected that in the least.

“Some entitled woman, heir to the Watchers. Probably arrogant and egotist to a fault with a hate of vampire that would make her bitter and all but spit venom at us every chance she got.”

“Mizushima..”

“Oh you were arrogant and you had hate. However, your arrogance had to do with the centuries of experience and the pride to do things right the first time. Your hate had to do with all the negative dealings you had with vampires. Imagine my surprise as your hate lessen and turned to acceptance and even friendship. Your arrogance paired with open mindedness. I snapped and you snapped back. I began to enjoy our bickering, I still do.”

Mizushima stood as he spoke and walked slowly around the sitting room, until he was behind her. She stood perfectly still, remembering his reaction to her dress just a week ago.

She heard his clothes rustles ever so slight as he shifted towards her, his lips brushing her ear, a burst of pheromones filling the air around her.

“Now, imagine my surprise when I realized I was falling for you,” he said huskily, his lip pressing against her skin where her neck met her shoulder in a soft kiss.

Awendela licked her lips, she needed to tread carefully, “Mizushima…”

“Shh…” he murmured against her skin, his hand moving her damp hair from her neck, his lips brushing against her ear, his tongue darting out to lick the outer rim.

Her body shivered at the sensation, her core heating up by his lips and the pheromones in the air. It wasn’t much different then what Min Ho had done to her months ago except this was a danger she knew how to handle, and knew that she could.

“I know what you are thinking,” he said softly moving away before coming to sit on the coffee table in front of her.

Shockingly, he took her hands into his own, looking at her face where her eyes were.

“I know you think I would take what I want, you think this of all vampires and I can feel your anger and resentment.”

His right hand cupped her cheek, “I want something real with you. Not just a tumble in the sheets. We are two beings that can live for centuries, have already. Perhaps we will not last a century but I would like to try to have something real with you. I have been falling in love with you over these last few weeks. Let me show you what being loved by a vampire, no not a vampire, but by a man can be like.”

Awendela took a long nerve settling breath, “Mizushima, I think you have a great personality and we get along well regardless of the nonsense bickering, I just don’t feel that way about you.”

“Have you even concerned a relationship with me? No with any vampires?”

“I-No, I haven’t,” she admitted softly.

“Will you think about it first before you reject me completely? I think I am own that much at least.”

He was right of course, she had never considered having a relationship with a vampire and she knew that was probably the base of her rejection. It would be cruel not to give him a fair chance like any other man. First, she needed to gauge her emotions and the man in front of her before she came up with a decision.

“Yes, I will think on it then give you my replied,” she said softly and calmly.

The burst of pheromone, something new entirely filled the air as he lunged forward, pulling her to him, his hand tangling into her hair as his lips found hers, kissing her with an intensity she had never felt before. Her hands gripped his shoulders to keep her balance as he deepened the kiss for just a moment before pulling away and sweeping out of the room leaving her breathless. She had to admit that was probably the best kiss she had ever had and her heart was skipping.

“Damn it” she cursed, realized she had wanted to build her walls back up and he was asking her to tear what was left down.
