#19 The Long Lost Sister

It was evening by the time you reached home after an eventful day at work. Holding a bouquet of lavender, from a “secret gardener”, you placed them as the centrepiece of your dining table.
Sinking down into your cosy beanbag, you whipped out your phone to call your brother Yugyeom.

Y: uh, Noona I’m almost home, are you back yet?M: Yes I am.. Why are you whispering?Y: I’m bringing Bambam!M: have you asked him?Y: No and I don’t know how to.. So I’m bringing him back for you to ask him yourself, k ? Just give me 10mins, noona. And he hung up.

Finally. The mystery of the company and who Bambam really was, would be unravelled tonight. You weren’t sure if it would be appropriate to be interrogating your brother’s Bff aka the next CEO aka your brother’s gf’s brother, but you had to.This whole network of connection was just too complex. You decided to just chill and have a bath while waiting.
Yugyeom continued catching up with Bambam, while heading back to your home.
“Bambam-ah, so how did you end up working in this company?” Yugyeom tried testing the waters.
Bambam gave it a little thought, his eyes turned as if he could find answers in his eyebrows. “I didn’t want to, actually. I’ve always wanted to do music like you know… but I’m just not good enough."
He scratched his head while Yugyeom tried to keep a straight face, remembering how he got trashed utterly once when they tried to street bask.
"So I was somewhat persuaded into going into business. By my father.” As he said this, Yugyeom noticed he made no special effort to be secretive. So Yugyeom made a bolder attempt.
“Your father? What does he do?”
Bambam frowned. “Yah, don’t you know what my father does?”
Now it was Yugyeom’s turn to frown. “Am I supposed to know?? Erm…”
Bambam jabbed him at the side causing him to wince in shock and pain. “I told you he has a company which I have been trying not to be involved in right? So yeah but no matter how I avoid it, he still made me do it… and so here I am.”
“So…. this is your father’s company? I’m working in your company? Jincha? Why didn’t you tell me that Bambam!” Yugyeom turned to stop in his tracks to ask.
The fluffy hair and thick lips didn’t flinch as he replied as a matter-of-factly. “But it doesn’t make a difference to me~ it doesn’t change anything, and I actually didn’t even think of it until you asked. Why Yugyeom? Is that a problem… isn’t it nice to be working together?”
Yugyeom found it hard to ask if Bambam or his sister was going to be inheriting the company. He felt it would throw their friendship into another perspective that he didn’t know what to say.
Thankfully your home was around the corner.“Oh hey noona is home!” Chirped Bambam as he galloped in his dress shoes towards your door.
“I can’t believe that kid is going to be a CEO…” Yugyeom muttered under his breath behind Bambam, fishing out his keys to unlock the door.
“Sigh. I sure hope she’s okay with this.”
- - a street in seoul - -
A door swung open at a shabby little inn, and a musky smell greeted her nose as she coughed it off.
“Hh-hi, is there an available room for the night?” It was Miya, the girl you met earlier, trying to look for a place to rest the night
.Looking up was a bespectacled young man, presumably the owner. He had fair skin, plump red lips and black spiked hair, with piercings all over. There were arty tattoos on his arm and up to his neck that just screamed rebellion. He looked at her for a few moments, smiled coyly and nodded. “Why not?”
Finding his steady gaze slightly burdensome, she turned to pick up her bags wanting to leave but he spoke up again.
“I think I know you.” He said.
She looked up and searched his eyes but found no answers. “Who…….. are you?”
Again he smiled coyly with a lopsided expression, one brow raised. “Don’t tell me you don’t recognise me.”
She stared blankly at him for awhile. Seeing that she was clueless, he removed his thick rimmed vintage glasses and pulled his spiked up fringe down to meet his large brown eyes. And wiped the smile from his face.
Miya gasped as she realised who she had been looking at, a sudden fainting swept her, and it made her stumbled a little.
“Jun!? Is that you? Wwww-why are you here?!"
She blurted aloud through the hand that covered her mouth, sheer shock written all over her face.
The man came out hurriedly from behind the counter to see what she came with. "Why are YOU here?” He asked in furrowed brows instead.
“I..I..came here to … to…"He stood in front of her bags seeing that she seemed to have been here for some time, holding more than just a backpack. Now confirming her identity, he was visibly holding in his shock with a toughened front. Frozen in her tracks, she was speechless. Her face growing a blush of red as her heart beat furiously, in the presence of this young man.
"Seriously, why are you here, only now?” He closed in on her. “You look like you’re homeless and penniless there’s no way I would believe you came here for fun, Miyoung.”
“I .. I … didn’t know you were here …” she looked away as her voiced weakened in disbelief. She had not heard anyone call her that in years so much so that she forgotten that was her name.
“Then tell me. Why are you here? And why are you homeless on a night like this?” His tone softened in worry as he saw the plight she was in, realising he was looking at none other than his adopted sister, the one whom he had tried to forget, ever since she disappeared as a child. She had grown so much but not any different from what he imagined her to be.
Tears filled her eyes as she gazed into his, the first familiar face she had seen ever since reaching this foreign land for a month.
"My grandfather, he……
…… he’s gone.“
At this, she broke down and collapsed in his arms, sobbing uncontrollably, scenes of the past flashed before her eyes. The hardships she had endured in order to leave her home, all alone, with fear and uncertainty, to start anew.
He held her tightly, unable to believe her words, only to be met by her trembling body.
"You stubborn fool…… why didn’t you call me.. sooner..” he sighed as his heart ached more than she knew, as he felt the weight of her loss and grief, not once, but twice now.
He let her cry her heart out until she could cry no more, and kept her by his side while he ended his shift.
It had neared midnight, and Miya fell asleep in her brother’s arms. It had been 15 years since they were separated. Miya, affectionately named as Park Miyoung, had been separated from her parents and was in the care of her grandfather, whom back then had an estate in Europe. At a young age, she grew up without family, but with distant relatives of her biological parents. As a result she could hardly speak Korean. Her grandfather was often away and left her in the care of an aunty who had 2 sons but no daughters. It was then that she was adopted to be the youngest of 3 siblings: Park Miyoung, Park Junyoung, and the oldest son, Park Jinyoung. But things took a turn for the worse when their estate was ransacked and auctioned off from the debt of Miya’s parents, having been bought under the same family name.
As a result, not only had she and her grandfather needed to pack up and flee, but also Junyoung and Jinyoung, whose parents could no longer afford the luxury of raising 3 children in the comforts of a European home. They made the painful decision to part ways: Miyoung and her grandfather to Japan, while Jinyoung and Junyoung both returned to Korea for fears that their whereabouts might be traced by debtors.
Both families were unwilling to part and even though Miyoung was young then, she remembered vividly, Jinyoung, her beloved oldest brother who would unceasingly love and care for her in place of her absent parents. When they parted, both Jun & Jinyoung were kept unaware of the reality, for their parents knew they were inseparable siblings. Clueless and thrown into confusion, Miyoung and her grandfather on the other hand, left quietly so as not to arouse the suspicions of any potential debtors. They had to cut off ties with their family, in order to prevent the same thing from happening. It was a difficult decision that the young Miyoung had to swallow and accept : never ever meeting her brothers and going into another unknown place, without even saying goodbye.
Back then, in teens Junyoung and Jinyoung were sent back to Korea to complete their studies, which was also their parent’s way of helping them to get over the situation everyone was in. Both the brothers had a hard time adapting and coping with the sudden loss of their only sister, whom they adored. It was especially so for Jinyoung. He went through his school life being bullied for growing up in a different culture, and Junyoung naturally grew tougher to defend both him and his brother.
As time passed, Jinyoung grew up and became the celebrity he was today, partly, in hopes to find Miyoung again. Junyoung, while supporting himself, found it easier to live independently on his own, not wanting to be an obstruction to his brother’s future. So they kept in contact but lived apart, and put the past behind them.
As Junyoung examined Miya’s face, his heart wrenched to even imagine how difficult it must have been for her, and how much of a coincidence it was that she would walk in of all times, and of all places, to his workplace. It was such a slim chance that one would think it to be ridiculous.
But it did - somehow, work out for her.He had to call Jinyoung and he knew he would be there in a flash if he broke the news to him, so he waited until she fell deeper asleep before doing so.
Jun: Hyung, its me.
JR: Uh, hey how’s things, you haven’t called in so long.
Jun: I saw that you had a concert in Japan so I didn’t want to disturb you.
JR: Yeah but its okay, there were some delays so I’m only leaving again tomorrow.
Jun: Hyung… I..
JR: Jun-ah, what’s wrong?
Jun: Hyung, Miyoung… she…..
JR: Miyoung?? What is it? Did you hear from her?
Jun: She’s here.
Within minutes after he hung up and gave Jinyoung the address, he arrived, obviously dressed in his home clothes, and slippers. He barged through the door and went straight to the small resting room in the inn, almost instinctive even though he had never visited the place.
Flinging the door open, he couldn’t believe his eyes. There sat his brother, a splitting image of him, with his long lost sister, sleeping peacefully like an angel. The brother’s eyes met as Junyoung motioned for him to keep it down. Carefully, Jinyoung closed the door and walked slowly to her. He knelt down to examine her face. A rush of emotions hit him and it stung his nose, causing his lips to tremble but he bit it down to suppress them. It was truly, the same little Miyoung he loved dearly, but now with traces of sadness and loneliness even with her eyes closed.
In a whisper, Jun motioned for him to sit beside.“How… did.. she…"
Jun, not wanting to wake Miyoung, strained to speak without moving too much, as her head lay on his chest. "Grandpa’s gone. She came alone.”
As expected, Jinyoung too, shocked by the news, found himself speechless. He pointed to the luggage.
Jun nodded. The brother’s didn’t need much words to be exchanged to make sense of things. Jinyoung looked at his watch, at was almost 1am.
“Why don’t you bring her to my place and stay with her. I’ll be away tomorrow and back in 2 days.” It seemed like a good idea anyway he had a nice cosy home and it was going to be empty. Jun nodded and Jinyoung loaded up her bags quietly to the car.
When they were ready, Jinyoung knelt down again at Miyoung feet, his heart pounding as he watched her. He couldn’t believe he would see her again.
Carefully, he reached his hand out to stroke her hair.It was warm and soft just like when she was young. “Miyoung-ah….. wake up, let’s go home…” his voice trembled slightly. That was what he always said, whenever she fell asleep outside and he had to piggy back her home.
She didn’t move for a few seconds. Then suddenly as if it struck her in her memory, her eyes opened wide and all she saw was Jinyoung, smiling at her, his hand on her shoulders.
At once, she recognised him and flung herself towards him, as he caught her firmly in his embrace. “Jinyoung oppa!!!” She cried out, and this time tears of joy streamed down her cheeks as she clutched onto him tightly.
He smiled and patted her back to calm her down. Hushing her sobs and telling her it was okay.“Come, let’s go now, you’re too big to be carried, you know that right?”

- - back at your house - -

“So, Bambam…” you began, while Yugyeom tried to make it natural for you to pop the question. “How’s your folks?”
Bambam took the drink from Yugyeom and sat around, “Oh they’re the same, nothing much really.”
Yugyeom joined in the conversation, “Noona, Bambam said that the company we worked in belongs to his dad.”
Bambam looked up, “but I don’t have anything to do with it! I’m really just a normal worker."
You leaned nearer to your brother as if you could gain some strength from being closer, "but you managed to get Gyeomie a place, that had to be some strings pulled for that huh?”
He smiled shyly, “actually I just asked the girls if there was a vacancy and when they asked if it was going to be for me, I said it was for my brother.”
Yugyeom rolled his eyes, “yah…. now I get it why they kept being so nice to me. How on earth do we look like brothers? We’re the same age!”
Bambam turned to him “I just told them it would be a cool and handsome guy like me, and they told me to fill up a form, the next thing I knew, they called you and offered you the job isn’t it? It wasn’t really strings I pulled though.”
You thought about it, and realised it could be true since Bambam was quite a popular staff in the all-female departments. He stood out wherever he was with his tall and lanky stature and wacky but stylish fashion sense. Of course, his chiselled young good looks topped it off.
“So, then… didn’t your Dad say anything about his plans for you… and your sis?” you quickly added.

“Well.. he did, but it’s going to be tough. My sister… (looks at Yugyeom) she… would rather get married and be a housewife..” chuckled Bambam.
“But there were some talks about the CEO’s daughter joining the ranks, and I heard she was quite a capable personnel.” Oblivious to his intent, you continued your pursuit for some truth.
Bambam sighed, “Noona. I know where you’re getting at, but sorry to say, I might be his son, but I am as clueless to things, as any of you are. I hardly see him, and I would rather not have anything to do with his business, because……..” his voice diminished into the silence, while he stared at Yugyeom.
“What?” Yugyeom prompted.
“Shall I just say, I have my own plans for the future.” Bambam seemed not to want a continuation of this topic as he neatly closed it.
You nodded, at least you were now clear that he wasn’t some scheming little punk that intentionally hid these things from you guys. But it was still slightly worrisome, that Yugyeom was dating his sister. You decided you should just leave things to progress and move on.
“Alright then, let’s just say you’re now the same annoying Bambam, and please for the umpteenth time Yugyeom, stop going to the underground bar with him. Don’t think I don’t know what you both have been up to. I’m heading to bed now you guys sort it out and get that clear.” Waving a hand to Bambam and letting them be, you head to your room, to check if Miya had called you yet.

– (JR’s House) –
“Oppa.. can I borrow your phone” Miyoung asked.
“Sure, but do you have friends here?” JR handed her his phone.
“No but I met a really nice girl today and she helped me so much, I promised to call her if I found a place to stay cos she was going to put me up at her home if I didn’t.” she smiled fondly while remembering.
“Oh that’s really nice, she must be kind. How did you meet her?” Junyoung asked, as he walked around his brother’s house, checking it out.
“I was in front of the office building around the corner where I worked, and when I got fired, I went to the park and by chance we met. She helped me get my wages from the boss and she seemed like she worked there as quite an influential position cos they all knew her and were a little afraid of her.” she replied.
“That tall blue building with the rotating glass doors? Oh I know someone there too, infact, I was just there today!” JR came over, frowning and wondering how was it that he could be in the same space as his beloved long lost sister, and yet missed the precious chance to reunite.
They sat together on the couch, a little taken aback at how much of a coincidence each of their individual actions were, and yet they seemed to all point towards them meeting.
“I guess, it’s really fate that can’t separate us, no matter where. I’m so glad Miyoung, that you finally showed up.” Jun held her hand in his, and looked at her face in sheer relief.
JR moved infront of her, and knelt on the floor putting both his hands around theirs and clasped it. “Yes… Miyoung ah, please don’t ever leave on your own again. Now that you’ve got us, we will stay together, just like how we used to. I’ll come back from Japan in 2 days, and Jun will be with you. Just do whatever you want to here, and when I’m back, I’ll make a room just for you - and only you."
JR stood up and planted a kiss on the top of her head. "Promise me you’ll only think of good things from now on."Miyoung looked at them, and bit her lip feeling so touched and comforted at the turn of events. "I couldn’t ask for more.” She mumbled before nodding profusely.
“Alright, I’ll prepare the room for you guys, Jun come help me with the bed."
The brothers left her to herself and went into the room while she took out your card to dial your number.
Without haste, she punched in every number while counter-checking on the card, and called you right away, the sudden excitement building up with every ring that sounded. The ringtone was cut and a voice answered the phone.
"Uh, Ji–”
“Mandy??” Miyoung interrupted before you were going to say anything she didn’t think she should hear.
“………………… is that, Miya?” you asked carefully, while repeatedly looking at your screen to check that it was a call from JR.
“Yes, it is, sorry to call you at this hour. I wanted to let you know I found a place to stay… thank you so much, I was afraid you’d be worried.”
You repeatedly shook your phone to allow the caller details to be shown, while listening to her talk. Why was she using JR’s phone? And didn’t JR say he was flying off already?
“Oh, uh, that’s great! But whose phone are you using Miya?” you asked.
“My brother, I found him today!” she chimed more than excited to share the news with you.
“YOUR WHO????????”

Is she going to friend zone the other two? Because It's like she's dating all three guys at the same time. By the three, I mean JB, JR and Mark.
