Let's Fly

After Jung Hwan left, I realized how important he was to me. He was always there when I needed a friend, and we had a great time together. There was nobody else like that.

At the time my father was an architect, and he received a job offer in America. So for twelfth grade, my family moved to New Jersey in the USA, and that was the end of my time in Busan. Since then, I've never gone back to Korea.

I decided to hold off on college for a bit after graduating, so that I could figure out what to do with my life. My parents said they would support any decision I made, but I'm not sure they were expecting me to decide what I did. I decided that since I was almost twenty years old, it still wasn't too late to try for a career in Korea. By career in Korea, I meant the music industry. That was probably the last thing my parents were expecting.

My mom threw a fit at first, but then eventually gave in and bought me a ticket to Seoul. After arriving, I immediately began preparing for auditions at multiple locations. I tried out for JYP entertainment, YG Entertainment, etc. I waited and waited, but never got a reply from any of them. Not like I was expecting to, though. I'm not even sure if I have the talent to be a singer in Korea yet. It's not an easy dream to pursue.

I had already been in Korea for a few months when I discovered WM Entertainment, which debuted a group called B1A4 last year. They were planning on debuting a new girl group in a few months, but needed one more member so they made an announcement for auditions. I decided to send in an audition application, and I received a surprisingly quick reply. They had invited me for an audition in person, which was a really great break-through moment for me. I knew that nothing had been confirmed yet, so I didn't let my guard down quite yet.

Up until the audition date, I practiced as if my life depended on it. It almost did, actually. If this didn't work out, I wasn't sure what would.

It's the long awaited audition day today.

I don't take too long to arrive at the audition location, since I had already been to the building weeks ago just so I wouldn't get lost today. I'm surprised at how many people are lined up outside. How am I going to audition today if I need to wait on that line?
As I walk closer, I notice that nearly all the people are carrying posters. Typical. They're just B1A4 fans. I guess they're not here for the auditions. They all look pretty tired. I wonder how long they've been here. I would never have the energy to chase after my favorite celebrities. I'm not really crazy about celebrities either.

I begin to walk up to the steps when a man in a black suit and sunglasses stops me.
"What are you doing? Fans are not allowed in the building." He growls.

Fans? Oh please, why would I waste my time doing something like that?

"I'm not a fan. I'm here for an audition." I reply.

Yikes. I can see a girl dressed head to toe in B1A4 merchandise glaring at me in the corner of my eye.

"That's what they all say." Says the guard.

I pull out my phone and check my email. I open my message from WM Entertainment, and flip my phone to show him. He glances at it, and then looks up and nods at me. I walk past him, as a huge chorus of cries and screams from the fangirls erupt.

"That's not fair!" I hear one of them shriek.

I hear a lot of other nasty stuff as I go through the revolving doors, but choose to ignore it. It's not even worth my time. I have an audition to do.
