Broken Hearts and Crystal Tears

Dreams

~Kai’s POV~

I screamed in frustration and slammed my body against the door again. My hands grabbed at my hair, and I screamed again. I found a boulder and somehow carried it, adrenaline coursing through my body.

I flung the boulder at the door, but the boulder just bounced back, the glass as good as new.

“It’s no use,” said Sehun. “This glass is bullet proof.”

Through the doors, I heard the PA system. “Beep.”

After a moment of sitting in despair, I smelled something. Smoke. I peeked into the mall, and saw that one of the stores had caught on fire. The fire was slowly spreading, and would soon reach Minnie and Summer. If they were already dead, I’d be useless to help. But at least I could rescue their bodies.

“Fire!!” I shouted. “Do something!!”

“I know a secret entrance to the mall. But its from the roof. I’m afraid of heights, so I’ll show you the way, but I won’t follow,” Luhan said.

We ran to the back of the building, and Luhan pointed to a rusty ladder on the wall of the mall. It was five stories high. Sehun led the climb, with me following right behind, and Xiumin and Kris behind me.

After climbing to the third story, my hands started hurting and my feet ached. But I continued on. By the fourth story, my feet had slipped a couple of times, but Xiumin helped me regain my balance.

Finally, there were a few rungs from the roof. Sehun had already climbed on top. Just as I was about to pull myself up, my foot slipped once again. I felt my grip loosen, and I started to fall.

This is it, I thought.

But Sehun was fast and grabbed my hand. He pulled me up, onto the roof. My hands and knees were bleeding, but I felt no pain because of my determination. I helped drag Xiumin and Kris onto the roof, and we continued on.

“Here’s the entrance Luhan was talking about!” Kris yelled, pointing to a trapdoor.

We ran to it, and together heaved it open. We entered one by one, climbing down a wooden ladder. We were in a crowded storage room, and I almost tripped over a stool trying to run out.

We ran out the storage room. We were on the top floor of the mall, and I ran to the stairs, almost flying down them and skipping several stairs at once. I had never ran so fast in my life, but I didn’t feel tired at all.

Suddenly, a barrier crashed into me.

“STOP!” a voice blared out from the PA system.

The boys behind me skidded to a stop.

“STOP,” the voice repeated.

I gritted my teeth and punched the wall, but the barrier wouldn’t give way.

I looked around, but I couldn’t find any way out of this confinement.

“YOU CAN’T HELP THEM,” the voice blared, laughing menacingly.

I balled my hands, and screamed into the silence.

“TRY GETTING OUT OF HERE, AND THEY DIE.” The voice was just mocking us now. Mocking us in our failing plan of escape.

Barriers were now all around Sehun, Xiumin, Kris, and I. They closed in slowly, confining us to about one square meter of space in all. They screeched to a stop, and a cover crashed from one end of the barrier to the other. Dark and silent, we didn’t know what to do.

Sehun spoke first. His voice shivered as he tried to conceal his fear. “W-well, what should we d-do?”

Xiumin touched the walls. “It’s impossible to smash our way out of here,” he commented.

Kris ran his hand through his hair. “Let’s contact the police.”

I agreed, taking out my phone.

A new message flashed onto my screen.

Excited, (maybe it was Minnie) I quickly clicked on it.

Wrong choice.

A voice message rang out in the silence.

“Good luck contacting anyone. You’re hopeless. You know it,” the voice message snickered at us.

The others took out their phones too. After receiving the same message and reading it, all of our phones went dark.

“Let’s all push on the barrier at the same time,” suggested Xiumin.

“One, two, three!” We all shoved out bodies against the barrier, and it finally gave way. There was smoke and flames everywhere, it was difficult to discern anything just a few feet in front of us.

The barrier actually kept us away from the smoke and fire, but we didn’t need protection. We just had to save Minnie and Summer.

“That way!” I shouted, recognizing the furniture that Summer and Minnie were sleeping on.

~Summer’s POV~

I didn’t know how long we were asleep. All I know is that I smelled something like smoke and I could hardly breathe. My eyes flew open and I coughed repeatedly, gasping for air and clawing at neck, struggling to breathe.

I frantically looked around, trying to find an exit. In the smoke, I could see some hazy dark shapes. Finally someone had found us! “Help!” I screamed scratchily. I heard yelling--the voices. Kai, Sehun, and...Kris and Xiumin? They made their way to our side and Kai picked Minnie up while Sehun picked me up. “Quick! We need to get out!” Sehun yelled.

The four of them started running. We were about to step on the stairs, when Xiumin shouted “LOOK OUT!” I turned to see a large wooden pillar falling...right on top of Sehun and I.

I screamed, trying to push Sehun out of the way so he would be saved. As he tried to pull me out of the way, he lost his grip and slipped.

“SUMMER!” he screamed, tears pouring down his face.

“I LOVE YOU, SEH,” my words were cut off as the pillar fell directly onto my head, crushing my skull…

And I woke up, sweating and screaming.

“SHH! Summer, calm down!” I heard Minnie say.

I sat up and looked around. “Where am I?” I asked frantically.

“Don’t worry, you’re safe. We’re in our dorm.”

“How did I get here?”

“I was in the bathroom and I heard a thump. I went out of the stall and found you, passed out on the floor.”

“You mean I’m not dead? Sehun’s alive? That never happened?” I burst into tears, so relieved that it was all a dream. The worst nightmare EVER.

“Huh? Of course you’re alive. What happened?”

“I had this crazy dream...it’s a long one. I’ll tell you later. Where’s Sehun?”

“He’s practicing right now.”

I hopped out of the bed, a little light headed, and sprinted out the dorm to the practice room.

I wanted to see Sehun; I was so scared. I found him in the practice room and snuck in, running and hugging Sehun from behind.

“Hey,” he turned around, hugging me back and lightly kissing my forehead.

I snuggled my face into his shoulder. Damn, he was so tall now, I could barely reach his shoulder.

“I missed you,” I said.

He chuckled. “Already? I just saw you a few hours ago.”

I kissed him. “I love you,” I smiled, ignoring his comment.

He grinned. “I love you too,” and kissed me back. We stayed like that for a full minute, before I finally pulled away.

I looked sadly at the ground.

“Summer, why are you looking so sad?”

“I-I almost lost you.”

He looked confused. “How?”

I told him my whole dream, remembering it like reality.

Unlike what I expected, after hearing the dream, he burst out laughing.

“HAHA! There’s no need to worry! I’m right here, we’re both alive. That’s a weird dream though,” he teased.

I lightly punched his chest. “Wae~ Be nice!”

He laughed again. “Okay, Summer.”

He kissed me on the forehead and swung me around, softly caressing my hair.
