Kevin spotted Noah, sitting on the bench in front of a deserted soccer field, under the trees. She was studying some papers.
“I am going to her.” He patted Hyunwoo.
“Buddy, you have a week to complete the bet.” He smirked.
“Piece of cake.” Kevin bit his lower lip.
“k… I am going. Good luck.”
“Ah…” He waved. He rested his hands inside his pockets and walked like a boss towards her. She was indulged in the papers.
“Oye…. Kawai?” Kevin sat beside her. “Caught cold again?”
“Ani…” She replied without paying much attention to him.
“Then why are you wearing that mask? Can I take it off?” He moved his hand but Noah slid a bit backward. He returned his hand.
“The atmosphere in this city does not seem to suit me, so I am wearing this safety mask.”
“Haha really, was Stockholm that hygienic?”
“Maybe.” She constantly ignored him, focusing on her work.
“Um are you working on the assignment?” He asked while leaning a bit closer.
She nodded while sliding a bit away.
“Hmmm, I handed my work to Byunghun-a… he’ll do my portion.”
She stared at him with questioning looks.
“What? He is my bestie, can’t I hand over this small work to him?”
She stared at him for a few seconds then again returned to her work.
“She’s such a drag! Ah….i can never tell what’s on her mind!” He thought while frowning at her. “Hey, so, now that we are friends, ummmm, why don’t you tell me about …. Uhh… about the cat?” He squinted his eyes.
She sighed. She placed the papers in her folder and turned her face to him. “My cat was suffering from a disease which was first time seen in her breed. It was a result of a lethal mutation. The vet told me that she should be either killed or brought to the hospital, but the first option is more suitable, since the disease can be transferred to other cats or humans, as it occurred due to a kind of infectious virus. I was trying to catch her that day. I wanted to finish her with my own hands. Do you need further explanation?” She asked after explaining.
“Wait, why didn’t you warn me then?” He asked angrily.
She smiled. “I did. But you never listened to me and crushed her throat without asking me.” She raised her brows and tilted her head.
“Oh…” He giggled. “My bad…” He bit his tongue lightly.
“Kevin… let’s stop being friends.”
“Wae? Are you angry over something? I-I can fix it.”
“You’ve done nothing wrong. Now, please if you’ll excuse me.” She grabbed her bag and stood up.
Kevin held her hand with both his hands, and stood up.
She looked at him.
He kissed her hand. “Your hands are so soft.”
She detached her hand from his grip. “W-what are you doing?” She gave him a worried look.
He pulled her by seizing her arm. He stared into her eyes. “I love you. It’s impossible to live without you now.” He lowered his voice to make it feel deeper.
She stared back with large bulged eyes.
He took the mask off her face. He tilted his head and leaned closer to her to kiss her but she accidently sneezed.
“Ah… I am sorry, Kevin-ssi… You have a handkerchief or a tissue paper?” She asked with extremely worried looks.
Kevin felt irritated. He took out his handkerchief and wiped his face with it.
“Ohh thank goodness.” She felt relieved. She took out a spray bottle from her bag. “Please stand still and close your eyes.”
Kevin did as she said. “What is she up to now? Damn, I wanna punch her.” He thought.
She sprayed the bottle all over his face and wore the mask again.
“What are you doing LADY!!!!” He felt too much agitated, so he yelled.
She bowed and walked away.
He wiped the spray off. “What the…..Uhhh DAMN! Right after I confessed! DAMN, DAMN, DAMN.” He hit the ground with his boot.
Byunghun went to Noah’s residence that day at evening. Noah opened the door.
She tried to hide the urging smile.
“Won’t you welcome me?” He smiled.
“Uh… you know, my…. My place….” She looked back at the interior of her apartment. “Its like a Microbiology lab.” She looked back at him. “You need to be careful. You can’t enter unless you wear a safety mask and gloves.” She smiled.
“Haahaha…. Really? I don’t think its that infectious.” He said.
“It might be not that much infectious but…. But you still need to be careful. I want this virus to die within me. I’ll take it with me into the earth, if it resists dying.”
“And what if a bacterium in the soil takes up this virus?” He joked.
“huh…. Atleast, I am doing what I can!”
“If you are that alert about it, how about taking a walk?”
They went out.
“So why did you wear this mask again?”
“Do I have to explain it all over again to you?” She asked. “I feel like I should wear it. Its better like this.” She smiled.
“Sorry…”
“Nope, it’s alright.”
“So… I didn’t know you were living in this apartment.”
“Why? Anything special about it?”
“Ahhh… you …. You don’t know?”
“What?”
“This building belongs to Kevin’s father, Woo Kang min. He’s a well off man.”
She stopped walking and looked at him. “No…. no way!!”
“So you really didn’t know. Does Kevin know?”
“I- I don’t know…” She brushed her tied up hair with her fingers in tension.
“Why are you so worried?”
“You said he isn’t a good guy… That is why I am worried.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of him.”
“Is he your friend?”
“Huh Kevin? No.” He lied. "Hey Noah? Do you play soccer?" He asked while looking at the soccer field as they stopped near it.
“No… I don’t play any games.”
“Hmmm then it will be a good game for you. Come on.” He ran to enter the area.Noah unwillingly followed him.
“I’ll just watch you play.” She said.
“No… you should do some healthy activity.” He said. “I need to find excuses to spend happy and fun times with you.” He thought. “And besides, it doesn’t involve any contact. You just have to kick the same ball I kick. Done?”
“But there is no ball here?” She said while looking around.
“Don’t worry about that. You wait here.” He said and went somewhere.
After few minutes, he came back with the ball.
“Here…Lets do the learning first.” He said.
“We don’t have much time. It will be dark soon.”
“Don’t worry. Focus here. First learn to control the ball, it’s called dribbling. Watch me.” He ran while controlling the ball like a pro. He ran back to her.
“And then is the kick. And then is the defense. Just concentrate on the ball. I think it will be it for today’s game.”
“Do I have to play it?”
“Ye… with me.” He smirked. “Only then I can know whether you were listening or not…” He looked at her.
“Ok, but just one game. And besides you’d win in the blink of an eye. I wish to go home early.”
“Let’s begin.” He smiled and let her take the ball first.
She could hardly take control over the ball and he got the ball from her. In the blink of an eye, he made a goal.
“Ahh this is soo hard….” She took off the mask. She was panting.
He ran towards her. “You didn’t even try.”
“I can’t play games like this. It needs too much energy.” She was breathing heavily.
“Should I take you to the hospital?” He became worried.
“No… just take me home.”
“Can-can you walk?”
She nodded.
