LATER AT NIGHT

She dried her hair and entered her room after her second bath. She looked at herself in the mirror. Her lips were a little swollen. She touched her lips. Kevin, who was lying in her bed laughed as he saw her doing that. She glared back.
“Do you know how much cuter you look with those swollen lips.” He said holding his laugh.
“its all your fault.” She said and turned back to look herself in the mirror.
“Longest day of your life, Right?” He teased.
“Not the longest but the hardest.” She replied arrogantly.
He laughed again.
“How did you know I met him today?” She asked.
Then his cell started ringing again.
“Just pick it up.” She felt irritated as he again disconnected.
“I am used to it now.” He sighed.
“Kevin, why are you avoiding people? Is it because of me?”
“Nah… I am just fed up of them. They are just all fake.”
“I know there’s another story behind it which I wont ask cuz you don’t seem to tell me.” She said and picked up her pillow.
“Where are you going?” He grabbed her wrist as he glanced at her nighty.
“i.am. not going to sleep here.” She replied.
“Fine.” He released her hand. “I’ll bring you back once you fall asleep.”
“Uhh…” She rolled her eyes.
“Good night.” He said softly.
She smirked. “I hope you’ll think over this matter again.”
“What matter?” He asked.
“Huh… I am suffering from a contagious disease. You’ll really have to cut off all your connections plus you’ll suffer from it, you can die if it becomes severe. Please think over it again.”
“She still doesn’t love me.” He said as she smacked the door and left.

The next morning she woke up in his arms. She removed his arms surrounding her carefully and got up. Before leaving the room, she stopped by the mirror to look at her lips which were now just a bit swollen. She sighed. After 30 minutes, she prepared breakfast for both of them, praying that nothing happens to him after eating her hand made things. He was still asleep.
Someone knocked at the door which was familiar to her. She went to the door happily. She opened the door.
“Ah Noah…”
“Good Morning, ahjumma.” She bowed and took the cherries basket from her.
Before she could turn back, Kevin showed up.
“Yah… ahjumma.” He moaned, still in sleep and back hugged Noah.
Noah passed out for a second. She gulped while staring at her next door ahjumma. “Uh….. you have mistaken it!!” Noah tried to cover up.
Ahjumma hid her surprised expression by placing hand over her opened mouth.
Noah shoved Kevin away.
“Noah-ah… What the hell!” He frowned with half-opened eyes.
“W-wont you come inside?” She asked.
“Uh… ani….” The surprised ahjumma replied.
“Come in…” Kevin grabbed her hand and dragging her in. Noah closed the door and brought the breakfast on table. She had a worried look on her face.
“We’re dating so isn’t it normal?” Kevin asked ahjumma.
“Hmmm I guess but…” She paused. “She’s ill.” She whispered to Kevin but Noah heard her.
“I don’t care.” Kevin replied carelessly. “ And besides you take care of her too, I’ll help you in that.”
She smiled genuinely. “OK.”
They finished their breakfast and the ahjumma left.
“She wasn’t happy with us being together.” Noah commented.
“Haha no… she said I am doing the right thing.” Kevin replied.
She exhaled out.

LATER THAT DAY IN HOSPITAL

“Kevin, I didn’t tell you this earlier but I guess it’s the time I tell you everything.” Dr. Jessica said who was still unaware of them dating each other.
“Were you hiding something?” Kevin asked.
“Umm… from the start I knew you were able to recover from this disease because you had a better immune system.”
“W-what do you mean? I have a chance to recover?” Kevin became curious.
“Um.” She nodded. “I gave you additional medicine, which helped you develop antibodies against the viral particles. But it took more time than I thought. You would have noticed that all the symptoms weren’t showing up right?”
“Yeah I told you and you said it was probably because I was taking medicine on time. I still don’t understand. Have I recovered? Am I alright now? I mean I don’t have to place all those restrictions of not meeting people, and I can eat whatever I want and…..” He got excIted and Jessica smiled.
“Yes… You are free to do anything. But remember one thing, you still cant form any relationship with Noah, because if the virus undergoes any mutation inside her and then attack you, the antibodies wont be able to save you. You understand?”
“I don’t understand this science language.”
“This was completely comprehensible ok? Just stay away from Noah. I hope you haven’t met her in this month, right?”
“Yeah I haven’t. I don’t meet her but we’re in the same class, so…. I get to see her.”
“Fine. Now go and enjoy your freedom. You were lucky enough.” She smiled.
“I just don’t have the words to thank you.” He couldn’t remain calm after hearing this good news. “If you ever need me, just give me a call.” He told her.
“Ok. Go for now.”
He came and hugged her.
“Haha… Kevin just don’t over-react.” She said and he parted.
“Annyeong.” He left.

“I wont be able to celebrate until I break up with her.” Kevin murmured to him. He was standing in front of her apartment. He entered after unlocking the door.
“Noah?” He called out her name.
Noah came out of the room. “Can you just give me a call before coming?” She asked and looked at him.
“Noah… I need to talk to you about something.” He said.
“Hmm ok… have a seat.”
“No… I’ll complete it fast. I thought about what you said. I think you are right.”
“Right? About what?” She asked.
“I think we really should -----“
“Yes?”
“We should break-up.”
“Hah?” She was shocked at the sudden change in his tone and attitude.
“I’ll place these keys back. This way, you wont be bothered by me anymore. I know, I know you’re happy with my decision.”
She smiled in shock. “Y-yes… that’s --- a g-good decision. But I am still shocked. One day you look so determined and the other day, you just back off. But I am completely ok with it.”
“Umm.” He turned around to the exit door.
“Gomawo.” She said as she closed the door.
He changed the sad look into happy one. “Ahhh Thanksgoodness.” He left.

Noah went back to her room. Her heart felt so heavy. She settled down into her bed and cuddled with her pillow.
“He wont bother anymore. I should be h-happy, right?” She asked the pillow.
“Sigh… I am lonely again but… that’s alright cuz that’s what I wanted, right?” She again asked. She gulped back her tears.
“Didn’t I tell you not to believe what he says but you’re just so dumb.” She said to herself as she ran her fingers through her hair.
“I am such a fool. Girls always believe these liar boys. Liar.” She murmured. “LIAR…” She yelled and again started cuddling with her pillow. “LIAR!!!” She felt uneasy and finally gave up and tears rolled down.
“And I don’t even love him in the first place, I shouldn’t be crying. I am just feeling so little and betrayed. He must be laughing at how stupid I am to believe what he says……. But wait, I had to pull a ‘I still don’t care’ look.”

That night she went to the next door ahjumma and told all her worries and how Kevin is always the reason for all her problems.
