Cherries and Chocolates
Innocent
With his headset on, and volume upto maximum, he entered the university premises. He went to the notice board to check out the list of students. He put his hands in his jeans pocket.
“Man…. Our Byung hun…” He saw his name on 5th number in the list. He further looked down and saw his name at 45th. “Woo Sunghyun. Who’s he?” He read his Korean name like somebody else name. He started taking a walk around the university, checking out the pretty girls, shy ones, fun ones. He finally reached the classroom after goofing around. He entered the class and waved to Byunghun while chewing the bubble. Byunghun ignored him.
“Whats with your cold attitude?” Kevin asked.
“Nothing… I thought you would be with your usual company.”
“They aren’t in our class. That’s why I came to you.” Kevin teased.
Byunghun stared and then looked away.
“Perhaps you’re waiting for someone?” Kevin asked after looking at his restless expression.
This time he stared at him with astonishment and then again turned his head towards the class enterance.
“Are you waiting for the professor? Mann….. You’re such a boring person.”
“Kevin you’re disturbing me.” He stood up and went to another seat.
Kevin followed him. “Is it a girl he’s waiting for? But it’s Byunghun… I’ve never seen him attracted to any girl out of nothing.” He thought.
After the class ended, Kevin came out with Byunghun and patted him. “Don’t be sad. She’ll come the next day, or the next class today.”
“Who?” Byunghun asked.
“Your girl…”
“Kevin… I am not dating.”
“Oh yeah how can I forget… you’re dating that girl you met on a blog.”
“We are not dating… She’s just an online friend.”
“Have you even seen her? Maybe she’s damn ugly.” Kevin made an ugly face and laughed.
“I wonder, you’ll fall for her if I show you her picture.”
“Not in a million years.”
“Thankgoodness.”
“So you guys video chat?”
“She’s too shy to show up…”
“Too sad. Now buy me some drink.” Kevin again patted Byunghun.
“Oyeeee Kevinnn??” A friend called.
“Omo…. Gotta go. BYE.” Kevin said.
“We have next class after 30 min.” Byunghun said but Kevin left. “It’s useless to worry about you.” He murmured.
“Kevin what were you doing with that blockhead.” The friend said.
“He’s my bestie.” Kevin replied in a rude mode.
“Excuse me…” A girl called them in a soft voice, hardly hearable. She was looking down, not facing them and wearing a small white surgical mask. “Can you tell where room 105 is?” She asked.
Kevin looked at her with squinted eyes. “Have we met before?” He thought.
“That way...” His friend replied.
“Gamsahabnida.” She bowed at 90 degrees and went her way.
Kevin kept on looking at her from the back until she vanished.
“She was cute. Right?” His friend said. “But most of these girls are just posing to be shy.”
Kevin nodded. “Lets go… buddies are waiting.” Kevin said.
“What about your class after 30 min?”
“Who cares about that?”
“Be careful of the seniors, they’ll come to bully you. It’s better if you take the class.”
“Ahhhh….. wth! Ok then, I am going.” Kevin waved and changed his route.
“Hey Byunghun…. I am back…” He said.
“WOW….” He replied.
“Buy me a drink.”
“Buy it yourself.”
“Uhhh what kind of friend are you?”
“I am the kind who doesn’t leave his friends unlike some other people.” Byunghun mocked.
“Fine… you win.” Kevin bought the drink and sat with him.
Byunghun took out his cell phone and read a sms. A smile urged on his face and then he checked whether Kevin was looking at him or not.
“I saw it.” Kevin said while taking a sip. “Are you texting your online gf?”
“Hhaha ani….” Byunghun lied.
“I didn’t know you were this immature. Online relationships are just like a paper ready to get burnt by the fire. So, I suggest not to get serious about the girl.”
“Don’t worry Kevin. She doesn’t live here. She lives in Sweden”
“WHAT??? Why didn’t you come with us when I asked you to come?”
“It would have been waste of time.”
“That means you really aren’t serious. Well that’s a relief. Find a good girl. You’ll find plenty of them in university. With that face, I bet girls will stalk you.”
“Lets go.”
“To where?”
“Classroom.”
“But 15 minutes are still left.”
“Kevin, you stay here, I’ll be back in a minute.”
“But where are you going?”
Byunghun showed his pinkie and left the place.
“Pathetic guy…” Kevin exhaled and took another sip of the drink.
Byunghun got out of the cafeteria and took out the cell to read the text.
“I am in room 105, where our next class is.” He read the text from her.
He ran to the room and opened the door of room 105. He saw, some students were already sitting there. He saw a girl sitting at the back seats and looking on the ground. She had tied her hair up in a bun, wearing a boyish jeans with a simple t-shirt. He was so excited to see her live, in front of her eyes. The girl was wearing a mask. He took slow steps while enjoying the sight of the girl. He passed the seats to go to her.
“BYUNGHUN-A” Kevin yelled from behind. Byunghun stopped from stepping forward and turned around.
“Anyahaseo…..” Kevin bowed slightly to greet everyone in the room. “You liar…” He said after reaching his friend.
“You followed me?” Byunghun asked.
“Let’s sit here.” He grabbed him and sat on the seats in the middle of the class.
The girl looked at both of them with a confused look. Kevin took a glance at her.
“I wonder why that girl is wearing a mask.” Kevin asked.
“She might have caught cold.” Byunghun said in an irritated manner.
“Whats the matter Byungiie? You look annoyed.”
He forced a smile. “It’s nothing.” He said and looked back at the girl.
After the class was over, Byunghun asked Kevin to go ahead.
“You really are hiding something from me… aren’t you?”
“No… its nothing.”
“Ok…. Anyeong.” Kevin said bye and went the other.
“I can’t wait to talk to her.” Byunghun got a message. He checked the IM.
“I am sorry. I can’t meet you today. I am really nervous. Let’s meet tomorrow.” He read her message and sighed. “Kevin is right. It’s hopeless.” He whispered to himself.
Kevin came out with his friends. They were all laughing.
“I think she is mad…” They were gossiping about some girl.
Kevin's eyes caught the girl with mask going alone. “Guys I’ll move ahead. I’ll see you guys later.”
“Yaaa…” They waved goodbye.
Kevin followed the girl with reserved footsteps. They reached a wide silent street. The girl looked behind her. She searched the place with her eyes and found nobody. She took off the mask and placed it inside her bag.
Kevin, who was trying to hide himself, was left in amazement after looking at her face. He ran towards the girl and grabbed her arm.
“I still don’t understand… why you wanted to kill the cat?"
