Cherries and Chocolates
Romantic Street
“Where are you Kevin?” A friend called him on cell phone.
“I wanted to take a walk. Since it’s our last day of stay.” Kevin replied.
“K. but reach the hotel at 2am. We’ll leave for Seoul then.”
“Yeah yeah.” Kevin hung up.
He was slowly walking in the small streets of Stockholm. He loved taking walks in silent streets. He placed his hands inside his pockets and let out a deep breath with a smiling face. He had black hair reaching the end of his neck. Half of his hair were tied up. He looked around the place.
“MANNNN…. I am gonna miss these days soo much.” He thought and looked at the sky. He closed his eyes.
Suddenly, he got hit by someone. He turned around. It was a girl. He took out his hands from his pocket and ran after her. He ran through different streets and lost the sight of her.
“Where did she go?” He thought. A cat passed by. Kevin grabbed the cat. It was a white furry cat wearing a bow. “Ahhh … lemme guess…. Lost your owner?”
The cat meowed in reply. Kevin looked in front and saw the same girl standing at a distance and panting.
“Get away from him.” She told Kevin to move away.
“him?” Kevin pointed at the cat.
“Give him back to me!” She cried.
“Ok Ok… calm down.” He said. “ Let’s go kitty.” As he moved forward… he saw a short knife in the girl’s hand. “Do you need my help?” He asked. “Is there something bothering you?”
“I need to kill that cat…” She lowered her voice.
“What did you say?” Kevin asked in confusion. The cat meowed again in a shrieking sound and ran.
“OH NO….” The girl chased after her.
“Did she say kill?” Kevin said to himself and scratched his head. He thought something and ran after her. He knew he would get lost but he wanted to know what the girl wanted from the cat.
Kevin searched for the cat in between the different narrow streets.
“Gotcha….” He grabbed the cat. “Why are you running away from your owner?"
“BINA???” The girl entered the street and saw the cat in Kevin's arms.
“You must not let her scratch you. Please.” She told Kevin.
“You want to kill it? Am I right?” He asked.
“Please lower your voice.” She said.
Kevin grabbed the cat’s neck and applied force to crush it.
“Wait… what are you doing?” She asked worriedly.
“Killing the cat?” He said. The cat meowed a little and died. “Let’s bury it.”
She placed the cat inside a bag. “I’ll do it myself.” She said while wiping her tears. She started walking and Kevin followed her. She turned back and looked at him.
“Stop following me.” She said.
“Oh man…. You talk sooo quietly. I can hardly hear you.” He said.
She moved forward and reached a garden.
“You gonna bury it here?”
She nodded and dug a small portion. Kevin stood there with folded arms and looked at her. She took out the cat’s body and placed it inside. Then she buried it. She patted the ground with her gloved hands. Kevin sat down. “Why did you….”
“It’s none of your business.” She interrupted him.
“It is, lady. You made me kill an innocent creature.”
“Just leave me alone.” She cried and started weeping loudly.
“OK OK … I am going.” He turned back.
“Oh … just one more thing.” He turned his face towards and saw her digging the grave again. He sat down and grabbed her hands. “Are you mad? Didn’t you want to kill it?” He asked angrily.
“I---I didn’t hug him…” She tried to stop her tears and sniffed.
Kevin stared at her for a moment. “Are you lonely?”
The girl looked back at him.
He hugged her.
“You needed a hug. Right?” He parted. “Do you feel better now?” He asked.
The girl stood up and so Kevin. “I am really grateful to you mister.” She bowed at 90 degrees.
“Well, if you are that much thankful, can you lead me to the hotel near the airport?”
“I will.” She bowed again.
“Thank you. Lets go then.” He said and moved forward.
The girl looked back at the grave and followed Kevin.
2 Days later in Seoul
Kevin was in his room, lying on the bed, reading a fashion magazine. His phone rang.
“What is it Byunghun?” He asked.
“Our university classes are starting today. I just wanted to remind you that, cuz I’m not sure whether you’ll come or not.” Byunghun said.
“As long as there are girls… I’ll visit any place.” Kevin chuckled.
“Change your attitude towards life.”
“Oye Byunghun-a… I want to share an exceptional experience at Stockholm.”
“I don’t wanna listen.”
“Its really interesting. You’ll regret if you wont listen.”
“Tell.”
“There was a girl who wanted to kill her cat.”
“Don’t make up stories on your own.”
“I am not telling a lie, promise.”
“Well if that really is true… we can’t do anything about that. Bye.” He hung up.
“You’re so boring Byunghun.” He stuck out his tongue at his cell phone.
