Love Math
Trapped
3 Days Later
Yura and her baby boy, both were discharged. They all went to her house. Something came up, so, Hongbin left.
They were in her bedroom.
“Umma!! Can I name him?” Insoo asked innocently.
“Ok, but ask your unnie first.” Sunhye told him.
“Unnie…??” he pleaded his sister.
“Hahaha you can name him. I’ll call him what you like.” Yura laughed.
Sunhye felt relieved from the depth of her heart.
Yura got up from the chair while holding the baby.
“Where are you going?” Jaehyun asked while taking another sip of his tea.
“Ahh…I’ll be back. I am just feeling suffocated in here.” She said. “Umma, take care of him.” She gave the baby to her mother, Sunhye. Sunhye took the baby from her and looked at her worriedly.
“Umma…. Don’t worry. I am feeling better than ever.” She decorated a fake smile on her face.
“Do you want me to believe that after all this, you could even get a good night sleep, ever?” Sunhye thought.
Yura went out of the room.
“I think she is alright now.” Jaehyun said.
Sunhye nodded.
Yura went upstairs to the painting room. She unlocked the door and opened the door slowly. It was the first time she entered the room after Taekwoon’s death. She smiled while looking at the half-painted wall.
“You liked incomplete work……. Then why did you think of living together for eternity!” She wanted to yell but couldn’t. Her eyes were teary.
A man was standing at the corner of the painted wall in darkness. She was not able to see him, as he was in another world now.
She proceeded in the room and touched the wall decorated with newspaper, the wall beside the painted wall.
“We will make this room a complete artwork, made by you and me.” His voice echoed in her mind. The things he used to say back in those days.
She started crying and covered her face with her hand. She went to the paint containers and picked one of them.
“TAEKWOON-AH!! I’ll complete this with my own hands.” She yelled out his name.
She opened the container and splashed the thick paint over the non-painted area. She took out the left over paint with her hand and cleaned that hand by painting the wall with it. She threw the container away and then again took another container of black paint.
The man watched her going to the portion he painted. He came out of the dark corner and stood in front of the portion of the wall he designed. She splashed the black color over the entire portion.
He got painted instead of the wall; but that was only illusion. In reality, the portion itself became meaningless after becoming black. He wanted to cry but couldn’t. There was no one who could hear him.
She went to the news paper wall and scratched the newspapers and splashed the paint on it as well. All the walls looked like mess. She ruined the remaining safe portion with the paint as well. Lastly, she took the last container and moved the container upside down over herself. The paint came down like thick tar and colored her as well. She went to the opposite corner of the wall and sat on the floor. She was too much tired. She wanted to cry out loud but she could hardly exhale out just the weeping sounds.
He was in more pain. He wanted to comfort her, but he was no longer there. He took slow steps towards her, really slow. He was afraid of touching her now. He reached and sat down.
He caressed her hair but she was unable to feel his touch, his presence.
Suddenly Sunhye opened the door and saw the condition of the room. She called her husband’s name.
Yura looked at her. She stood up and so did the man. She looked around the messed walls.
“Umma?” She looked at her mother with confused look and red swollen eyes.
“What did you to yourself and the room?” Sunhye scolded.
Yura ignored her. She went to the portion he painted, which was all black now.
“UMMA!” She covered her mouth with both her hands. “How will I watch his stupid strokes now???” She asked while crying. Sunhye ran towards her.
“Don’t worry, dear.” Sunhye tried to comfort her.
Yura tried to clean the portion with hands. “Umma… its still wet.” She smiled like an idiot, searching for moon on earth.
“YURA! STOP IT NOW.” Sunhye yelled. She couldn’t see her situation. Jaehyun entered the room and handed over the baby to Sunhye. He grabbed his daughter and pulled her.
“APPA… NO PLEASE PLEASE.” She cried. All at once her body felt week and she became unconscious.
“OH NO….” Jaehyun cried.
“Take her to the hospital.” Sunhye said.
A Day later, at the hospital
“So, will she be alright?” Hongbin again asked the doctor.
“Ofcourse, but she couldn’t handle the shock. It will take time. I told the same thing to her parents, who came yesterday with her. I hope you understand.”The doctor replied.
“Ahh.. yes I do. Can I go meet her?”
“You can, but don’t remind her of anything bad and be patient.”
“Gamsahabnida.” Hongbin shook hands with him.
He opened the door of the room. He looked at the bed and found no one on it. He became worried and took a step back to get out of the room and ask the doctor, but he caught glance of Yura sitting behind the bed, in the corner. She had her arms resting on her knees and her head was down, in between her arms. Hongbin went to her slowly and sat with her.
“Yura, I didn’t know you were this naughty. I almost had a mini heart attack after……” He stopped suddenly. He looked at her as she lifted her head up. Her swollen eyes, her frizzy and entangled hair over her slightly dirty face, all were completely portraying her inner condition.
He stopped saying anything and looked at her. He stood up and ran outside the room. He closed the door and rested on the side wall. He covered his mouth to hide his crying face.
“How can I face her when I don’t have the strength?” He mumbled.
“Excuse me?” Honbgin stopped a nurse passing by. “Please take a look at the patient in this room.”
“Ok… wait here.” The nurse went inside the room.
He waited outside the room.
After 10 minutes, the nurse came out. “She isn’t listening to me.”
“Ok, I’ll go take a look.”
“Thank you… if there’s any inconvenience, inform me or the other staff.”
“I will.” He smiled and entered the room.
She was looking outside the window. She heard his footsteps and turned her head back. “Oppa.” She mumbled.
“Um, oppa is here. Sit here.” He pointed at the chair placed in the corner.
She took the seat and Hongbin sat opposite to her.
“So, tell me, how are you?”
She tried to look normal. “Fine.”
“Wow, that’s good.” He smiled. He took a note pad placed on the table. “Would you like to solve a numerical?”
“ye…”
He wrote a sum with his left hand.
“You know, he was ambidextrous.” She smiled with teary eyes.
“Of course, I know.” He handed over the note pad to her.
She looked at the sum. “Its so easy.”
“Well, I could only remember this one, sorry.”
She solved the sum.
“Hmmm so you write with your right hand.”
She laughed.”That proves I am normal............. Do you miss unnie?”
He sighed. “Which…. Unnie?”
“Both.”
“I do. But I am trying to live a normal life. I hope you do the same. You’ll be discharged today. I want you to live a happy life, for your child. Huh, atleast you have someone related to him. Take good care of your baby.”
“I am not as strong as you.”
“Yura, I am not selfish. My heart cries every day, but God gifted me with life, so, I can’t do anything.”
“I know you are not selfish, but strong.”She wiped her overflowing tears. “I ‘ll try my best.” She tried to smile.
He smiled. “You are stronger. You never shed a tear to keep your promise until his birth. I think you should cry once and for all.”
“I think I’ve cried enough. I want to tell you one thing.”
“What?” He asked.
“Leo used to say that we can’t escape our fate. He once said to me that I admire oppa just too much, so I should stop it, because, we may have something in common with the people who attract us. Since oppa lost his love twice, I should stop admiring him.” She sighed. “But in the end, he, himself, couldn’t stop admiring my unnie and died young like her. That proves, we can’t escape our fate, no matter how wise we are.”
“Leo said that to you?” He asked.
“Who else could have said that?”
He remained silent.
