Love Math
Tear
Few hours later
Yura was standing near the wall of her garden, watching all the people who came to the funeral. Hakyeon came towards Yura. “Yura-ssi…”
Yura turned her eyes towards Hakyeon.
“You must be in extreme pain.”He said with a gloomy look.
“Where is oppa? Have you called him?” She asked.
Hakyeon paused. “Uh… I called him but he said he can’t come. He can’t face you.”
Yura went to her mother.
“Umma? Where did he go to?” Insoo asked about Taekwoon.
“He went to a better place.” She said while weeping.
“Then why are you crying?” Insoo asked innocently.
“Umma???” Yura came to her mother. “Wait until I come back.”
“Yura… you’re not going anywhere!”
“I have to! Or else he would regret it his whole life.” She left.
“Yura….” Tears overflowed.
Hongbin opened the door.
“Oppa!” To his surprise Yura was standing in front of him. She grabbed his hand and pulled him. “Let’s go.”
“No….. I can’t." He looked away.
“Didn’t you regret the decision of not coming to my unnie’s funeral? You’d regret this decision as well. You won’t be able to face me ever in life. So, come with me.”
She pulled him outside.
“Why are you hiding your pain? You should not think about someone like me!” Hongbin thought while being led by her. “You choose a gem, Leo, but unfortunately, you’re not here anymore to praise it’s beauty.”
Next day
“Thank you everyone for helping me. I wish you a happy journey.” Yura smiled and bowed.
“We are not going to leave you here!” Jaehyun scolded his daughter.
“Your appa is right!” Sunhye approved.
“I am not going anywhere. I’ll live here with him.” Yura said rudely.
Hongbin and Hakyeon were there too. All were standing at the entrance.
“NOBODY IS HERE! YOU’RE ALONE NOW!!!” Jaehyun yelled at her.
“You are scaring Insoo, appa.” She said to her father. “Umma, you believe me… right??? Let me do it!” Yura pleaded.
Sunhye again started crying.
“Umma, please….” Yura hugged her mother.
“Tell me Yura! You really think he’s still here? He died yesterday.” Sunhye said while weeping.
“His body left me… but not his soul. I believe he’s with me right now, and will always be here. And appa! Wasn’t it your decision to make me study maths? Let me decide something for me this time. Besides I am an independent woman.”
“Please, don’t worry about her. We work together at the university. She’s my assistant in my work. I’ll take care of her and inform you about her conditions.” Hongbin assured them.
“It would be a pain. You don’t need to do this.” Yura sighed.
“Keep quite! We can’t listen to everything you say!” Jaehyun again scolded. “We would be grateful to you, Hongbin-ssi. Lets go.” He said and all of her family left.
“Ok Yura we should leave as well.” Hakyeon bowed.
“Ne… have a nice day.” She greeted.
“Lets go Hongbin.”
Hongbin nodded and they also left.
“She didn’t even cry!” Hakyeon said while driving. “And you cried more than I thought.” He looked at Hongbin, who was staring outside the window.
“Huh… what were you saying?” Hongbin asked.
Hakyeon sighed. “Nothing.”
Hongbin again stared at the happenings outside of the car through the car window.
“They all have gone through a lot of things. Its normal to act like this, Hongbin.” Hakyeon thought.
7 Months later
“How’s my daughter?” Sunhye called.
“What do you think?” Yura asked while cutting the vegetables.
“I think you are doing great.” Sunhye smiled.
“You don’t need to worry. I am on leave and taking good care of myself, just too too much.” She said and ate a piece of carrot.
“Hmm… you sound so happy.” Sunhye said
“Really? Well because We are going to meet our daughter soon. Umma??”
“Ne?”
“Would you ask me a question?”
“What question, dear?”
She giggled. “Is Taekwoon taking care of you?” She said while smiling.
Sunhye took a little pause. “I-is…. Uh…. Is Taekwoon taking c-are of you, Yura?” She stuttered. She placed her hand over her mouth to stop herself from making weeping noises. She gulped and hung up without listening her step daughter’s answer.
“Umma!! That’s not fair! You didn’t even listen to my answer. She pouted and sniffed. She was trying hard to keep her promise. She went to the lounge and turned on the LCD and opened the song folder. She clicked on Girl’s day Something video. She sat on the cozy couch.
“Cool.” She murmured while watching the dance moves. “You really died before watching my dance.”
She smiled sadly and sighed.
She visited the doctor alone that day.
“You didn’t come with Hongbin-ssi today?” The doctor said while checking her reports.
“I am relying on him too much. He needs rest, I think.” Yura clarified.
“Hmmm good. Your condition is absolutely alright. I am glad you took good care of yourself despite living alone.” The doctor smiled.
“Hmm I am keeping my promise with my late husband.” Yura smiled.
She left the hospital. She entered the bus leading to her home. She took a seat and felt extremely tired. A man came and sat beside her. The man was listening music on his cell phone. Instantly, his eyes moved towards the girl sitting next to him.
“Oye, Yura?”
Yura heard a similar voice and opened her eyes to look at the man.
“Long time no see.” Sungjae teased. “And look what you’ve got!” He said while observing her condition. “So, who is the UNLUCKY man? And how did this happen! I mean how did you let him touch you? Or did he use force?” He kept on teasing her.
“Mind your own business, Sungjae. And I believe, you couldn’t even get a permanent girl.” She mocked while looking at the window.
“Huh!” He couldn’t reply back. They sat in silence after that. Yura felt extremely annoyed. She even couldn’t stop the water flowing through her eyes. She cleared her tears.
Sungjae took a glance at her. “Still pathetic!” He thought.
She stood up at the next stop, although it wasn’t her stop. Due to a bump, she was just about to slip when Sungjae saved her while grabbing her.
“Watch where you step!” He said. This time he wasn’t teasing but was seriously worried. She slapped him.
“Don’t worry about me, but yourself! Understand!” She said angrily with teary eyes.
She went out of the bus. She was struggling not to remember all those incidents with Sungjae but they were just showing up. She started crying. The road was silent. She could see nobody. She sat on the foot path and started crying out loud. Her pain increased. She took out her cell and texted Hongbin.
At Hospital
“Hongbin-ssi, Is she alright?” Sunhye grabbed his arm.
“Ofcourse, she is. Go and meet her. She is in the room.”
Sunhye rushed into the room.
“I have no words to thank you.” Jaehyun said with teary eyes.
“Please… Jaehyun-nim… It was something I had to do…” Hongbin replied.
Sunhye entered the room. Yura was on the bed. Sunhye looked at the baby.
“So, how is he?” Yura asked about her baby.
“He? Oh so it’s a boy.”
Yura let out a sigh. “Hm… unfortunately.” She whispered.
“He is small but looks healthy. Yura, why aren’t you looking happy?” Sunhye asked worriedly.
“Umma?” She held Sunhye’s hand. “I couldn’t keep my promise!” Yura said with teary eyes.
