Heart and Seoul
First Day Curse
When we pulled into the school’s campus I was greeted to this elaborate white building that was about 3 stories high. The grass was this luscious pure green color and there was a magnificent fountain in the front of the school.
This was a school that actually looked like its pictures from the brochures.
When the limo came to a complete stop Donghae got out and opened the door for us.
“First I’ll lead you to the admission office to fill out some forms and to take a photo for your school ID cards,” he explained.
When we walked in, the inside was just as nice. The floor and walls were so clean as if they were never touched. The office lady was kind enough to guide us through all the needed papers that needed to be signed then took our picture for our ID cards.
“Your class schedules are also ready for pick up,” Said the office lady.
I eagerly took the half sheet of paper; I smiled when I saw that I had all the classes that I had requested.
“Do we share a class???” Crystal asked.
I placed my paper next to hers to see, but sadly we didn’t have anything.
“Well, there’s always lunch,” she said.
Donghae came back in to take us to where our dorms were going to be.
“You two will be in the ‘Sunlight’ building,” he told us, “It’s a pretty nice building for freshmen,”
He led us to the entrance of this modern grey building.
“When you go in, an assistant named Maria will help you two from there,” Donghae explained. “I’ll see you two around,” he gave a bow and walked off.
Crystal and I went inside the lobby and saw a short black haired lady walking up to us, “Hello Hello, I’m Maria,” she introduced, “I’ll show you were your rooms will be along with your uniforms,”
We went down a couple halls which reminded me of a Hyatt hotel hallway, our room was on the first floor on the right-hand side.
“Wow, is this a two bedroom?” Crystal asked when we walked in.
“Yes it is, it also had a full bathroom and a living room like area,” Maria explained, “Pretty much like a small apartment,”
“This is the best dorm I’ve ever seen,” I said as I looked around.
“Well I’m glad to know,” Maria smiled, then she pointed out two boxes that were on our beds, “In those boxes you will find your uniforms, they are to be worn whenever you go to class or school function unless otherwise told different,”
I lifted the lid up to find a white blouse shirt with a plaid tie, a grey plaid skirt, black socks, and a blue school bag.
“I wouldn’t mind wearing this every day,” Crystal said holding her shirt up.
“Glad to know,” Maria said, “Now, I’ll leave you two to unpack and make yourselves feel at home. If you need anything I’ll be in the lobby, oh and your room card keys are on the table,”
When she left both Crystal and I flopped on our bed.
“Wow, we’re actually here,” I said.
“I know right… we actually have our own dorm room!” my friend cried out.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight,” I laughed.
“Me either!”
Later we stated to decorate and hang our clothes up, I pinned pictures on my side of the wall of friends and family and I put a family portrait next to my night stand along with a photo of Ginger. I sighed as I stared at the photos, I’ll cherish every memory I have of my loved ones.
Crystal came out the bathroom with her uniform on turning around as if she was modeling the outfit.
“Kinda tight, but I like it,” she said.
I laughed, “Be careful of bending down,” I warned, “I don’t think their skirts are made to support an ass like yours,”
She laughed and put a hand on her hip, “Hell, I don’t mind. Might give some these guys something good to look at for once!”
I shook my head smiling, “Girl, you’re a freakin pistol!”
“I know!” she turned back to change back into her regular clothes.
That morning we got up dressed and ready for our first day, I placed all my books and notebooks in my bag and held on to my schedule to help guide me.
I turned to crystal, “You ready?” I asked.
She tried tugging her skirt down a little then looked up back at me, “I am now,”
We walked out our dorm building and started our way to the main building. As we were walking we saw a couple other students driving by in their expensive sports cars.
“Must be nice to drive a mile to school,” I commented dryly.
“Life of the rich kids I suppose,” Crystal added.
It only took us about 15 minutes to get inside the main foyer; I looked at my paper then back at Crystal, “Where do you have to go?” I asked.
She narrowed her eyes at her schedule, “Hmm, Music Theory in room B201. What about you,”
“Intro to Digital Photography, room A110,”
She gave a sigh, “Dang, we aint even the same area.”
“Yeah, guess we’ll have to fend for ourselves,” I said.
“I guess soo,” she droned.
We started out or separate ways, I went down a hall that said “A-Wing” up above, and so I must be going the right way.
To busy focusing on my paper and not looking up at where I was going I accidentally bumped into someone’s back. I bounced back and looked up.
“I-I’m sorry!” I gasped out.
The guy turned around to face me; oddly he didn’t look angry or pissed off. He just stared.
Feeling like a dumbass I gave a small smile and walked the other directions and only to realize I was going the complete opposite direction on where I needed to go. I closed my eyes to take a deep breath and carefully turned around hoping to not make eye contact with the guy.
“You must be new…” said the guy when I walked past him.
I turned back at him, “Erm... yeah I am,”
“Where are you trying to get to?” he asked simply. His voice was smooth and comforting.
I stammered at first trying to find my paper then realized it was still in my hands.
I could see the guy smile and raise an eyebrow behind his black rimmed glasses. He gently took the paper out of my hands and looked for himself, “A110 huh?” he said, “That will be a little further down,”
I rubbed my hand behind my neck and took the paper back, “thanks,” I turned to walk but then stopped staring at the other turns there were down the hall.
“I feel you might need a walk down there,” he said.
I turned my head, “heh, yeah”
The guy walked up to my side put his hand behind my back and led me down to room A110. The room wasn’t as far as I thought it would be; which made me feel stupid.
“Thank you,” I told him.
The guy just shrugged it off, “no biggie, just pay attention to where you are walking,” he said as we walked off to his own direction.
I blushed and went into my designated class room.
I sat at the first empty desk I could find and buried my head in my arms.
Gah! I’m such a dumbass! Why was I stupid enough to not look where I was walking! It’s only my first day and I already made a fool of myself, now I’m going to be that foreign black girl that runs into things.
I lifted my shoulders to give a heavy sigh.
“Excuse me,” said someone as the tapped my shoulders.
I lifted my head up and saw this guy staring at me, “I’m sorry but this is my seat,”
I got a confused look over my face.
HIS seat??? This is only the first day! I didn’t know I would be in high school all over again!
“Oh, I’m sorr—“
Then the guy started to laugh. Which made me more confused, “I’m kidding,” he said, “I noticed you were new, so I had to have a lil fun,”
I frowned; I don’t take kindly to messing with the new kid. I could tell he could sense my anger so he put his hands up in defense, “I’m sorry, I thought you would laugh or something,”
I pouted my lips, “No way,” I said, “Maybe back in America but I’m in new territory. I can’t tell who’s kidding or whose serious here.”
The guy grinned, “Oh Korea isn’t THAT much different form America,” he said, then he put his hand out for me to shake, “I’m Choi Siwon,”
I shook his hand, “Camille Tates,”
He nodded his head, “Nice to meet you, and sorry for pissing you off,”
I gave a small laugh, “its fine, I’ll adjust to this place soon enough,”
He smiled then took a seat behind me.
