I'll be your light

“Drug transportation.” Zico says. Taeil’s eyes seem to sparkle as the leader speaks. “Our buddies ‘anonYmous’ have some crystal meth for us to deliver. Tomorrow afternoon, ‘anonYmous’ will drop off 2 kilograms of crystal meth here, then we will take it to the address written on the card. Am I understood?”
“Yes.” Everyone replies obediently. “Tomorrow only come armed with a knife, hidden away. These are only for safety precautions. I do not intend on using these weapon when delivering drugs. Am I understood?” Zico finalises. “Yes.” Everyone repeats. “Now go home and get some sleep.”

Yukwon sits on his bed. He cannot even think of sleeping right now, he is too nervous about the trip tomorrow. Zico hasn’t given BLOCK B a real job in six months. What if they stuff up? He cups his head in his hands and sighs deeply. “BLOCK B is back.” He remembers Taeil saying. Yukwon once overheard a conversation between ZIco and Taeil. Zico wants BLOCK B to move up the ladder, he made Taeil produce a new drug. He didn’t quite catch the name. Going from drug suppliers to drug manufacturers. Yep, they are moving up.

He wakes to his blaring alarm clock. With tired eyes, Yukwon stumbles into the bathroom to get ready. Just as he finishes, Kyung calls his mobile.
“Have you eaten breakfast yet?” Kyung asks happily.
“No.” Yukwon answers.
“Oh good, because the guys invited us to eat breakfast. I’m coming up to yours.”
“Nah it’s alright. Breakfast isn’t really my thing. You go ahead.”
“What do you mean breakfast isn’t really your thing? Breakfast is a vital meal.”
Someone knocks on the door of Yukwon’s apartment. Kyung stands there with a white smile. “Let’s go!” he laughs.
“Don’t force me to go.” Yukwon whines like a kid. “I’m not hungry.”
“Eat your breakfast. How do you expect to have the energy to start the day if you don’t eat breakfast?” Kyung laughs at his own parental tone.
“I haven’t eaten breakfast in a year. It’s a pretty pointless meal.” Yukwon says.
Kyung takes Yukwon’s wrist and drags him out of his apartment. “We’re. Going. To. Eat.” He demands.
“No! I don’t want to!” Yukwon puts his weight into his feet so it anchors him down.
Kyung’s hand slips and he does flying backwards into the hall, crashing into someone on the way. The young woman’s belonging’s sprawl on the ground. “I’m so sorry.” Kyung says. He gives Yukwon a look and helps the woman put her things back into the cardboard box she was holding. The young woman combs her hair back with her fingers and Yukwon realises who she is. “Melinda!” He says, a little too excitedly.
“Oh! Yukwon!” she exclaims.
“You know this girl?” Kyung asks while raising his eyebrows.
“Yes.”
“Hello miss. I am Kyung, Yukwon’s friend.” Kyung extends his hand out for a friendly handshake.
Melinda makes a confused face but shakes his hand anyways.
“What’s wrong with her?” Kyung whispers.
“She doesn’t understand Hangul. She only knows English.” Yukwon explains. The three of them stand there awkwardly, the language barrier being more of a problem than Yukwon thought. Multiple footsteps trample up the stairs and the rest of BLOCK B come into the hallway. “We’re here to pick you up.” Taeil says happily. They stop in place when they see the female with them. “Who is the beautiful lady?” Jaehyo’s Casanova side kicks in. He approaches her and takes her hand. “I am Jaehyo, nice to meet you.” He brings her small hand to his mouth and places a soft kiss on her knuckles. Melinda blushes and Yukwon boils with jealousy. He steps in between them, “Lay off the stranger will you?” he glares at Jaehyo. Before returning to the pack, Jaehyo winks charmingly at Melinda.
“Who is she?” Zico asks.
“She’s an acquaintance of Yukwon but she doesn’t speak Hangul, she speaks English!” Kyung says excitedly. The boys ooh and aah which makes Melinda even more confused. Minhyuk steps up to show off his fluent English skills. “Hello miss. I am Minhyuk, and we are all Yukwon’s friends.” He says.
“Oh thank goodness. You speak English.” Melinda says with relief.
“Ask her what she is doing here.” Yukwon says.
“Yukwon would like to know what you are doing in this apartment building.”
“Oh, I’ve just moved into this building. My apartment is the one at the end of the hall.” Melinda points to where she is staying.
Minhyuk translates for Yukwon. He feels a light sensation in his chest. Melinda is staying in this building?
“I have to get going now. I have a lot of moving and packing to do.” Melinda smiles cutely and waves goodbye to everyone before leaving. “She’s cute.” Minhyuk says in Hangul. Yukwon wants to say something like “Lay off.” Or “Keep your hand off her.” But he was too afraid they would all suspect something. “Let’s go already.” Zico yawns. “We have important business today. Let’s get to it.”

After the drug delivery was a success, Yukwon makes his way to Melinda’s apartment. He waits anxiously at the front door before knocking. He takes a deep breath and silently repeats the English lines Minhyuk taught him. He knocks and waits for Melinda to open the door. “Herroh Melinda.” He says. “Rooks riek we areh nei – “ he stumbles with his words. This word is such a long word. “neiboors nao.” He says with little confidence. Melinda smiles warmly. “Yes, neighbours.” She says in Hangul. This is a surprise for Yukwon. “Do you speak Hangul?” he asks in Hangul. She shakes her head. “Only little.” She corrects with a giggle. His heart warms and he feels light headed. “Neiboors.” He says in poor English. “Neighbours.” She echoes in Hangul. They shake hands and smile at their new friendship.
