Chapter 18: Fall Apart

A/N: Long chapter ahead. 4000+ words. Please bear. :3

“Ehem.” The emcee coughed, which caught the attention of every person downstage including the guy’s. “Ok. The time you’ve been waiting for… Let the dance begin.”

Then a loud electronic party sound played which made everyone gather in the middle and dance their hearts away. Lights of different colours began flickering dramatically. You quickly took the chance and ran away from your original place before getting caught. You looked around to see if there was any sign of them. So far no. You walked and walked around the hall, not knowing where to go. All you want was to avoid the guys for some time. You found yourself heading on the area beside the stage.

“Dear, you better go dance!” a faculty staff saw you.

“I, uhm- don’t dance.” You just gave her an innocent smile. She however eyed you suspiciously. Next thing you know, she was pushing you towards the group of people dancing in the middle.

“Just go enjoy the night.” She advised and left, leaving you standing awkwardly between students partying hard.

You tried making your way out, but the more you struggled, the more you were being pushed to the centre. You just groaned in annoyance. Good thing the music was loud enough to cover it. You were just awkwardly standing there when you felt someone pull you from behind.

“Finally found you.” You took some time to analyse whose face was in front of you. The flickering lights didn’t help either. And you finally pictured Suho’s face inches away from yours.

“Suho?” you shouted, making sure he would hear. He kept the awkward position for a while, until he finally made you stand upright.

“I promised the guys to return you if we found you, but…” he bit his lip. “It isn’t bad to keep you for myself for a while, right?” He continued. You creased your eyebrows in curiosity. ‘What are you up to?’

In a loud snap of his finger, a slow soothing music played. The people began pairing up with someone to dance. You were just amazed on what these guys can do. You struggled free from his arms, only for him to hold yours back.

“You promised us a dance, remember?” he said with frown and puppy eyes. Even without his aegyo, you still did promise the guy a dance. You sighed. “Why did I even agree with this.” You said softly which earned a small snicker from him.

Then he pulled you into your arms to a dance. Your chests were in contact with each other. His slender arms rested on your waist, your arms resting lazily on his shoulders. His eyes was fixed in yours, yet you still looked away. Your heartbeat was racing. Your hands went pale in nervousness.

“Hey don’t be nervous.” He pulled your chin up lightly. “And look at me.” He said.
You just moved their speechless. Words were on the tip of your tongue, but none managed to escape from your lips. “He look at me.” He whispered, which made you shiver. You were slowly lifting your head up when…

“Sorry, hyung But I’ll take her.” Hands pulled your waist away from Suho and dragged you towards the back leaving him out of sight. You turned back to see who it was.

“Tao?!” you softly said, fearing that the noise would catch everyone’s attention thus ruining their moments.

“Sorry, I just needed to do it.” He chuckled and pulled you upright. ”Now, dance with me.” He held your arms placed them around his neck. You turned red with his sudden action. You just want to say something right in front of his face, but it was really hard seeing on how charming he looked in his grey suit. His blonde hair neatly arranged. For seconds you moved to the music of the song. It was a very unfamiliar feeling, you wanted to say something.

“T-Tao” you managed to say. He looked at you even more, hearing his name being called.

“Yes? He replied.

“I, uh –“ before you could utter the next word, you saw someone push Tao away, causing the poor guy to be in quite a distance away from you.

You narrowed your eyes to see who it was –Chen.

“Oops. Sorry.” He flashed an innocent smile. His usual high voice was heard again. You just missed it. But the fact that he shoved Tao away, doesn’t cover it.

“Why did you do that?!” you looked at him in utter disbelief.

“Oh, just this reason.” He pulled you closer to his arms, which masked your face in a shocked expression. “Dance with me.” He whispered, which made your eyes widen in shock. ‘Of course.’ You thought.

He just smiled at you, then you danced. Each second felt like hours. You took the chance to observe him seeing of how close the two of you were. His face directing it’s gaze to yours, his arms providing you that warmth. This warmth –it was almost the same warmth you felt when he confessed to you. It was just amazing. The way it provided you comfort. The way it–

“OkayMyturnow.” Your thoughts were disturbed by a voice so fast that it seemed like he said one word. You were dragged by someone forcefully to the side, which made Chen’s warmth be replaced with the usual cold atmosphere. You saw Yixing smiling smugly at you.

“What the heck?!” you complained. “Why did you–“

“Just dance.” He wrapped his arms around your waist. You just shot a death glare at him.
“Come on. You promised.” He smiled, his dimple showing. He looked very amazing in his light grey suit. His dark auburn hair in its usual self, which you liked. You just forced out a smile and wrapped your hands around him.

“Good girl.” He said which made both of you chuckle.

The music was still live and young, so the two of you danced with it. You can’t help but notice his soft expressions. But behind all of this innocence is a tough Yixing, just as when he kept pinning you to the walls that sends pain through your back. But on your side, it was quite understandable since you kept ignoring him. Who wouldn’t get offended when they are ignored? 5 minutes haven’t even passed yet, and a guy has managed to pull you away from Lay’s arms.

“Finally I found you. Good thing I saw you back there.” Chanyeol chuckled. You just looked at him with your poker face. “What? Mesmerized by my looks?” he joked. You just rolled your eyes.

“Arasso, arasso. Let’s just dance.” You brought the whole thing up so you can finally get it over, but on the inside you were really quite captivated by the looks of him. Wearing a light purple suit, hair tousled, and his signature smile that’s very contagious. The moment you see it, the corner of your lips react on its own and form a smile. He held your hand and placed his on your waist. Then the two of you moved to the melody of the music. Seeing the beads of sweat coming from his forehead, you giggled.

“Why so nervous?” you laughed lightly.

“I-I am n-not!” he denied stuttering. You just giggled.

“You know, you don’t have to be so-“

“Ok! My turn!” an awfully familiar voice came from behind you. Then you found yourself being pulled from behind, which made you let go of Chanyeol. The person twirled you around so you could see him. With the dim coloured lights, it was kind of hard to make out who it was, but judging by the voice, you took a guess.

“Baekhyun?” you asked.

“Yep.” He laughed. “Now can we dance before they find us?”

“Huh?” before you could let him answer, he pulled you closer to his arms. You were surprised with the sudden action. You looked up, only to see him looking back at you. Your cheeks turned red.

“Come on.” He smiled. You just responded with a nod. Then you switched to the dancing position. But this time, he sang to the words of the music being played. Your eyes brighten up when you heard him sing. It reminded you on the day the two of you ‘duet’ on your favourite song. It was just pleasing to hear.

“Meil geudewa, Sumaneun gamjong deureul lanwojugo bewogamyo.” He looked at you and encouraged you to sing. “Ssaugo ulgo anajugo.” He sang.

“Nege marhejwo ige sarang–“

Before you could finish the song, your arm was being dragged from the sides. You lost visual for a second there, and finally regained consciousness after a few moments.

“Hey. Sorry. I just didn’t feel comfortable seeing the two of you back there.” He chuckled sarcastically

“It wasn’t funny Xiumin.” You just shot a cold piercing stare at the cute face in front of you. Which made him frown for a bit. The feeling of guilt surpassing came to your heart.

“Just kidding.” You lied. Seeing that face full of sadness makes you overcome with sadness too. His face brightened up a little. “I’ll make you feel happy again.”

You took his hand, which earned a cute expression from him. Everything he does was just too cute for him to be the hyung. You led his hand to your waist, which made him gulp. Then everything in place, you danced to the music with him. A faint smile began forming on his lips, much to your content. Now the sile grew wider as the both of you danced for already a minute or so.

“You look so amazing.” He complimented. You blushed. You were not used being called by such words.

“Thanks, so do you.” You looked at him head to toe. His light orange suit just brings out his cuteness more. “You look cute.” ‘Ugh! Why did I say that?!’ you began to deny what you just said, fearing that he might think you as a creep. You looked up to see his reaction. But a speechless Xiumin met you.

“I-uh”

Before you could even hear what he has to say, you were pushed to the side by a sudden force. You almost fell down, but good thing you had a few seconds to balance yourself under those burdensome heels.

“Sorry. But I just can’t let hyung take you for himself.” The soothing seductive voice of Kai apologized. You just gave him a look of disbelief.

“Anyways, I’m supposed to turn you to the guys now but,” he bit his lower lip. It was kind of intimidating, in a way. “I’ll just get that dance now.”

He helped you stand up and then placed both of his hands around your waist, which shocked you. ‘Don’t worry. You’re just promising him the dance.’ You took a deep breath and slowly wrapped your arms around his neck. His face was so close with yours that one wrong move and…you don’t even want to think about it. The two of you moved to the music along with the other couples. He twirled you and pulled you closer to him, leaving no gap between you. Your faces were just an inch apart, which made you very nervous.

“I guess I should take the chance now.” he deeply looked at you with those dark brown orbs. It was like falling into a deep pool of emotions. His sexy bronze skin was in contact with your pale one. It felt different yet amazing. “Shin Hee…”

“I’ll take her.” Your felt your hands being interlocked with another and slowly losing sight of Kai. You turned your head back to see a straight blonde guy dragging you.

“Sehun?” he froze in place and turned his head to look at you.

“Hey there.” He smiled. “You look beautiful.” Your cheeks turned red by those very words.

“Th-thanks.” You stuttered.

“Come on.” He stretched his hands to you. “Let’s dance before the hyungs find uth.”

You chuckled and took his hand. “Okay.” Then, with your eyes in each other’s, you danced to the music. It felt very comfortable since Sehun was the only one you got to have ‘skinship’ with. He was the one who gets to lean at you a lot, brush his hands against you and show his irresistible aegyo. He somehow made you feel that you were never alone. That he has you and you have him, as a friend that is.

As what seemed like hours passing, some couple accidentally pushed you towards him. You gulped. You’ve never been this close to him before. You felt his hands tighten its grip with yours.

“Wow…” he muttered. “I guesth they wouldn’t get hurt on the things they don’t know.”

You just responded with a puzzled look. “What?” He slowly leaned in to you making the gap between your faces become smaller. 5 inches. 4 inches. 2.5 inches. There was just no way out of this. Then your hands felt free from his grip as he got shoved far away.

“Sneaky maknae.” Kyungsoo hissed as he eyed Sehun who was already out of sight.

“D.O.?” you chuckled. You didn’t know if you should be happy from saving her from Sehun’s moves or mad for shoving the younger one away.

“Hey there.” You saw him take something out from his pocket. “Dance with me?” he offered you a small pack of his tasty, delicious cookie, which made your face brighten up. But you turned it down.

“Even without that,” you took his free hand and placed it on your waist. “I still did promise you all the dance.” He smiled at the words. Then without thinking twice, he took your hand and dance with you. Along with the music, you moved yourselves. You can’t help but giggle on how squishy he looks right now.

“What you laughing at?” he asked.

“Oh nothing.” You smiled. His face looked sweet as the pastry he offers you. At the verge of admiring the guy in front of you, another guy managed to pull you from the peaceful dance you were in.

“Kyungsoo won’t mind if I take you?” Luhan met your eyes.

“Luhan? What the heck?” you interjected. You were at peace on your dance already.

“Ok, let’s start again.” He bowed his head and stretched his hand to you. “May I have this dance Milady?” he said in the most polite way. You can’ help but laugh with his princely attitude.

“Aish. My hands getting tired.” He complained.

“Arasso, arasso. Let’s just do it.” You took his hand and he twirled you around like a princess He pulled you close to him and let his hands rest on your waist. Then it just naturally came when the two of you danced around the hall. He looked very charming with his frost blonde hair tousled and wearing an ivory white suit just brought it out more. Your eyes can’t help but sneak a few glances.

“Aish, look at me.” He lifted your chin up and was met by the sparkly deer eyes of his. For a second there, you were actually lost in his eyes. Caught in the pool of those deep dark eyes. You only broke from your thoughts when someone shoved you to the side.

“Luhan-oppa! I didn’t know you offer free dance!” a girl squealed. Then a huge group of girls began swooning over him thus separating the two of you. ‘Of course.’ You sighed. Exo is the school kingkas, of course it would be natural to panic if you see them dance with a random girl. Another group of girls heading, managed to push you out of the way, which made you lose balance. The world was on its slow motion when you slowly leaned to the floor to fall. Expecting the worse, you just closed your eyes. But instead of the cold hard floor slamming on your back, you felt two slender arms caught you. You opened your eyes to see who it was. A very handsome face greeted in front of your very eyes.

“Glad I caught you.” He smirked. You just leaned there frozen. Not one word has managed to escape your lips. You were grateful, and amazed. He again, has managed to save you.

“Thanks Kris.” You flashed a smile and tried standing up. But you knees were wobbly that you fell back to his arms again. “S-sorry.” You felt embarrassed seeing how weak you are right now.

“It’s alright.” He snickered. Then held your arms and helped you stand up. “Sure you can dance with me?”

“Y-yeah.” You assured. The fact that he was tall, like really tall, made you extend almost your whole arm just to wrap it around his neck. He however, seemed like having an easy time positioning himself to dance. Then finally, seeing you were both comfortable with each other you moved to beat of the music. And again, it felt as if the two of you were the only one in your own little world. Finally he decided to break the tensed atmosphere.

“You had fun with the others?” he asked. You just give him a look of disbelief.

“Does being shoved, pushed and fell considered fun?” you said sarcastically which made him laugh. “But at least they got the dance.” He twirled you around. Next thing you know you were leaning on his arms again.

“Are you having a good time with me?” he looked at you straight in the eyes. You gulped in nervousness.

“I –uh.” Before you could say another word, bright lights turned on. It took you some time to adjust to the new lighting. You stood back to your feet once again.

“Now students. The coronation for the Summer Dance Princess.” The students cheered in response. You just rolled your eyes. ‘This is gonna be Hyun-Ae of course.’

“Shin Hee ah!” A group of guys from behind called in chorus. The rest of the Exo guys joined you. “Where have you been?” you just flashed an innocent smile in response.

“We have counted and tallied your casted votes. And the top competitors are…” you saw the Emcee took a card and read its contents. “Geum Hyun-ok.” Which earned cheers and claps from the student body. The Emcee mentioned two more names, each followed by cheers. But the next name is what really shocked the hell out of you.

“…and Seung Shin Hee.” Your jaw dropped upon hearing your name. You shook your head. ‘It’s not me, isn’t it?’ You looked back to the guys who were clapping their hands endlessly.
“What the hell did you all do?!” you whispered at them roughly. Your face still masked with surprise. They however, scratched their heads like they don’t have a clue.

“Huh? I thought you were alright with it?” Tao stated.

“Since when did I agree-“ a memory came to your mind, when you were on the way to school with the guys.

-FLASHBACK-

“Guys, I think we should already tell Shin Hee about it?” Yixing advised.

“Yeah your right.” The rest nodded. “So Shin Hee, we kind of entered your name to the Summer Dance Princess coronation–“

“But don’t worry, we made people vote for you so you could at least have chances for winning.” Chanyeol interrupted Baekhyun.

“What are you saying? She has good chances of winning!” Kai interjected.

“No. BEST in fact.” Suho corrected. Now the whole group was arguing about it.

“As I was saying.” Baekhyun shouted while rolling his eyes, making the others break in silence. “Is that alright for you Shin Hee?
Seeing the girl nod, made the guys feel light-hearted on the inside knowing she agreed with it.

-REALITY-

“Uh! I shouldn’t have got distracted!” you face palmed. You were just caught up with your thoughts that time that you didn’t even know they asked you about this.

“And now, the Summer Dance Princess is….” The Emcee interrupted and she took out a card as a drum roll followed. “Seung Shin Hee!” A crowd cheered and applauded upon hearing your name being called. You almost fainted. The fact that you were entered at the coronation was already bad, and winning it against your own will was way even worse. You hear the guys cheering from behind.

“I knew she would win!” Chen said.

“We would like to request Ms Seung to be here onstage.” The Emcee announced. ‘I guess I have no choice huh?’ The guys started pushing you towards the stage. You just went with the flow. ‘This is such a bad idea!’

Next thing you know you were onstage in front of the whole student body who were cheering at you. You just shot the guys, who were smiling smugly, death glares. A sash was pinned on your dress with gold letters of ‘SUMMER DANCE PRINCESS’ written on it. Just the thought made you feel bad already. Next a tiara was placed on your head, which earned the awestruck faces from the people. You just stood there frozen not knowing what to do. Thinking it was already over, you walked downstage where the guys were waiting for you. Everything just happened too fast. You just have too many things to say to them yet none managed to be uttered.

“Congratulations?” Luhan smiled at you, which averted your gaze to him. The guy’s smile melted into a frown.

“Look, were sorry.” Xiumin apologized. “We just thought we will give you the best night of your life.” He explained.

Your eyes melted to a soft expression. It wasn’t really there fault. You were informed of the whole thing, but you weren’t able to listen. All they wanted was for you to have a great moment, but just spending time with them already made it great. A smile managed to escape your lips which perked up the faces of the 12 guys in front of you.

“Look, you didn’t have to do this.” You took of the sash and looked at it. “Just being with you guys made my night awesome.” They somehow managed to brighten up. And you were right. You had fun, and the event wasn’t over yet. You just enjoying seeing them happy for no reason. You directed your attention back to the stage again.

“Congratulations to-“ before the Emcee could even say it a video presentation played on the screen behind her. Seeing her reaction, you knew it wasn’t intentional to bring it up. But nevertheless you watched.

“Seung Shin Hee. Sophomore. Class 2.” An awfully familiar voiced narrated the whole thing. You were taken aback seeing a picture of you being flashed on screen. You blushed in embarrassment. ‘Who would make this?’

“But what you don’t know is this.” The narration continued with a picture of you with the Exo guys hanging out under the tree. Now you got worried. You moved a step back. “She has been clinging with the school kingkas EXO!” the voice continued. Another picture flashed, with you and Exo laughing on the same place. “DO you want your oppas to be annoyed with her?”

“Shin Hee let’s go!” Kyungsoo who was behind you held your shoulder to pull you back, but only for you to shrug it off. You just want to know how far the creator of this to go.

“She always annoys them in every way. And they don’t like it!” the narration continued. Tears started building up in your eyes. Every word seemed like a dagger being thrown right in your heart. It hurts so much, but you still tried your best to withstand everything she said. “Shin Hee is clingy. Awful.” It seemed like every negative word that existed referred to you. “Seung Shin Hee, is a bitch.” And that’s when it hit you. The whole student body went silent after hearing the word. The last knife that stabbed you to the core. Your feet became too weak to move, your lips frozen to talk and your face too numb to express. Tears ran throughout your skin.

You hear the student body whispering and mumbling. A few were agreeing, but most were irritated on the way it insulted you. You stood there crying, feeling hopeless and useless. You hear a laugh coming from the edge of the stage. It was Hyun-ok along with her two other friends. ‘Of course she was behind all of this.’ But what you didn’t know is on how she would reach this far to hurt you. Why would she even make up those horrible things? It was confusing and painful.

“Shin Hee that’s not true.” Kris’ voice rang to your ears. It gave you a spark of hope. But the thought of what Hyun-ok said somehow outmatch it. It was as if she was right. All this year, you were avoiding them, and tried to keep a low profile, but this is what happened. After a second, that spark died. You went to your previous hopeless state. Next thing you know, you were running to the exit. You were leaving.

You didn’t know where to go, nor what to do. All you want is to leave that place. As what seemed like forever of running, more tears came out from you. Sad doesn’t even begin to cover how hopeless you felt deep inside. Your heart was weak, and so were you. You don’t even want to try to remember what happened today. Those very words she said made you fall apart.
