Prompt: Promise by EXO

Kyungsoo goes to the cafe and restaurant for the last time, since, it has been three days since he didn’t visit the place. He wants to bid goodbye to everyone and to sing them his last song for them, but he wishes this is not his last song for them. The EXO’s last song since the cafe and restaurant will soon be closed.

They asked Suho what happened that the city just gave them a week until the cafe and restaurant will close. Suho said that he had been receiving notice that they should be relocating the place because the lot where the cafe and restaurant is located is owned by the government. Suho did all of the things he could do to buy the lot but the government won’t permit him so he knows that he can’t do anything about this anymore. This happened last month, that’s why he’s giving all the opportunities and chances that his workers and customers to be happy for last one month.

Kyungsoo serves everyone first since this will be the last day in the place, he’ll go to America in two days, with his mom and without Jongin. He still feels depressed. Chen plays a background melody and Lay strums a guitar. It’s good that everyone is here; he gives thanks to the heavens... Jongin is here. Does he still have a chance? Jongin doesn’t mind him, maybe he doesn’t have.

Kyungsoo can settle with the curses, hits, and slaps Jongin give him everyday, but he cannot take it when Jongin doesn’t even look at him.

“Just one look please....” And Kyungsoo tears up. Everyone is taken aback when Kyungsoo still continues to his singing...maybe because this is his last song for Jongin. Jongin hears what Kyungsoo says, and he knows that Kyungsoo is crying. “Just go.” Jongin whispers and he wishes that Kyungsoo hears it.

Jongin runs away, once again... Kyungsoo then goes in the room where there is no one. Baekhyun knocks on the door but Kyungsoo can hear nothing but his heart breaking.


Jongin continues to drink everything until he sees someone that he winces as he remembers who this person is. And he doesn’t know why he’s calm when that person sits beside him, with the same state. The man orders a drink and drinks it in one blow, and Jongin thinks that this man always drinks.

Then Kris looks at him, “He’s dead.” He looks at his drink. Jongin just lets him tell his story, “My father is dead just like yours.” And Kris looks at him with an unknown smirk plastered on his face.

Jongin smirks at Kris too, “But you still have your family, you’re the one who ran away.”

“And you have yours too.” and Jongin is taken aback. He lets the words sink in him then he smiles, sarcasm is the only thing you can see on his face, “But I have my replacement, fucking Kyungsoo is there.”

“Let me tell you my story. I never agreed to whatever my father is doing until I saw Tao. Tao became my boyfriend and my father thought that Tao was the one who’s asking me not to do those things because he realized that Tao was adopted by your mother Kim Jongin.” Jongin looks at Kris, his forehead shows his confusion on what Kris is telling him.

“Your mom adopted Tao but she didn’t adopt Kyungsoo, I don’t know why but Kyungsoo still calls her Mom. Oh, I know why, because Kyungsoo’s parents are in America. I know everything Kyungsoo doesn’t know, but I don’t tell him about that because I know that he’ll know it sooner or later. Kyungsoo is a clever person, just like his parents.” Then Kris looks at Jongin who is attentively listening to him even though Jongin is drinking.

“Baekhyun’s parents are the agents who are handling our case. Your parents are members of our organization Jongin. And hey… by the way, your parents are indebt to us and they didn’t have enough money to pay us, and they didn’t came back for what they got from us… and to Mr. Lee and to the Dos.” And Jongin stops drinking but Kris continues, “Mr. Lee’s family and Kyungsoo’s family were victims of our loss, of the whole organization’s loss because they invested with your parents. The thing is, the Lees were so fucking scary that they threatened your parents and the Dos. And thus, the Lees were the ones who killed your father Jongin, not mine. And because the Byuns learned that, they’re afraid of your mother’s and the Dos’ safety, so they sent them to America. Your mother didn’t agree at first but when our sharks found them, she got hospitalized. And she agreed to go to America to live for you.…”

“Your parents are coward Jongin, just like you.” Jongin looks at Kris with those killer eyes, “You’re a coward Jongin, and you’re not facing your problems, Sehun. I threatened Sehun that night. He disappeared right? But tell me Jongin, did you at least try to look for him? No… your mind is too hooked up that everyone is leaving you. That’s why you never tried to look for them, thus, you leave them too.” Jongin doesn’t want to hear anymore because he’s hurt, knowing the fucking truth. Kyungsoo knows it. Kyungsoo knows everything but Kyungsoo lied. He never told Jongin about his mother even though he told everything about his self. Why did Kyungsoo do that? That is still the thing that is lingering in Jongin’s thought.

“Your mother looked for you with Tao and Kyungsoo’s help. And there I met Kyungsoo and came back to Tao. But Tao never came back to me. He kept on pushing me Jongin. But Jongin believe me, I only threatened Sehun for Tao. Because my father told me that they will harm Tao if I don’t threaten Sehun. Because I thought that time that my father killed your father, he can do that to Tao, too. I became so scared so I followed him. I did that for Tao Jongin, I love him and I will do everything to him. And I think you will do the same thing because Kyungsoo did it for you. But bitch please Jongin, Tao still ran away from me. Then Sehun ran away. And now, you are running away. We, Kyungsoo and I, don’t want this. We only want to protect you but you can’t understand us. It’s unfair. My father, it’s unfair. I judged him.” Kris sniffs and there Jongin realizes that Kris is crying and he’s really broken. So Kris’ father is not the one who killed his father… it’s the Lees.

Jongin suddenly recalls what Kris told him before, “Treasure him before he’ll be gone. What’s the meaning of that Kris? Gone?Before he’ll be gone… before he’ll be gone? Why?! Because you know what is going to happen to Kyungsoo? Because you are chasing him?”

Kris looks at Jongin in disbelief, Jongin still doesn’t understand. “I am not chasing him. If I am, I should’ve caught him. Bitch please, I am not a weak person, I can handle guys like him. And fuck it, I know that he’s living in the Byuns, and I know that you are with him. But I won’t waste my time because he has nothing to do in your case Kim. He is not a Kim, it’s just that he is ‘adopted’ by the Kims and his parents are the only one who are saved by your family, they send that owl’s family in America to be safe, and they took Kyungsoo there for his safety. Then he came back with Tao and they looked for you.”

“It’s almost a million and they’re the reason why our company is bankcrupted. Now, my father is dead because he doesn’t have enough medications because of the shit of that Kims. I swear I want to kill your mom Jongin but I realized that the Dos also invested with your parents and I know, she’s doing everything to return the money they lost by her own. I cannot hate you. I cannot hate that owl.” Kris laughs at his heart; he doesn’t know why he’s calm. The Kims killed his father? Or maybe he killed his father.

“Kyungsoo was the one who accepted me. I don’t know why and how but he gave me this, he’s welcoming me in his world, but most of you don’t. I want to be in your world but Tao doesn’t accept me, but I think I can settle with this.” Jongin looks at the thing Kris is fumbling on his neck, it has a dragon as its pendant, “He told me it’s a dragon… because I am a dragon that can fly… I don’t know why he sees me that way but he told me because I am scary like a dragon but he says when he got to know me, he feels so light whenever he’s with me that he feels like he’s flying. I don’t know what he’s trying to say but I think my heart understands it. Eww, cheesy bitch.” Kris rolls his eyes and Jongin smiles at what Kris is saying.

Kris sees Jongin’s smile and is a little taken aback, knowing that Kyungsoo is the one who moulded that smile, he says, “Don’t make Kyungsoo lose his smile. You bitch.” Kris reminds Jongin once again.

Sehun thinks he understands everything now. Should he tell Jongin everything he knows so that Jongin will understand too? But Jongin might think that everyone is betraying him because everyone knows about it but he himself who is the real involved in this case doesn’t know everything.

But Sehun has to try, because he sees the two strong couples hurt because they protect each other. And Sehun understands Jongin’s point. Jongin has been doing everything to protect Kyungsoo from the sharks, and he even thought of rejecting Kyungsoo so that the sharks won’t harm him. And this Kyungsoo knows everything but he doesn’t say a little something to Jongin, especially when he learned Jongin’s side. But he did that because Kyungsoo knows that Jongin will run away because Jongin protects him. This couple is stupid, right?

Sehun goes to that bar where he saw Jongin these past days and he’s right, Jongin is there, with Kris. Kris looks like he’s drunk; it’s the same with Jongin. Sehun scans around the place and his eyes wrinkle when he sees Tao drinking too. Why is Tao here?

Sehun goes beside Tao and Tao glances at him. Tao looks at his drink and apologizes, “I’m sorry Sehun. This is all my fault. All of these happenings, this is my fault...” And Tao sniffs. Sehun doesn’t know what Tao is talking about but he runs circles on Tao’s back to at least tell Tao that Sehun is listening. And this is the first time that Tao cries.

“I heard everything Sehun. Kris threatened you for me. I know that he threatened you, but I didn’t know that it was for me so I ran away, thinking that he’s a dangerous bitch. Because I heard that his father killed Jongin’s father, but Sehun no. the Lees killed Jongin’s father, and we all learned about it just now, when Kris’ father died.” Tao says what he heard and Sehun is taken aback, surprised at what he’s hearing right now. “But I am the bitch here, it’s all because of me. Kris threatened you for me. You ran away because Kris threatened you. Jongin became sad and lonely because you left him. Then I went to America and I met Mrs. Kim, she adopted me and we learned all about Black Pearl, same with Kyungsoo. I did everything to get rid of that Black Pearl because I thought that Kris was the one who was running the organization but he didn’t because I ran away. He has no reason to run the organization anymore. Jongin found Kyungsoo and you were left. I’m sorry Sehun...” Tao holds Sehun’s hands to apologize. Sehun sees Tao’s point but Tao is wrong. He just wants to protect everyone from the organization. And it is Sehun’s decision to run away from Jongin. Kris just threatened him but Kris didn’t tell him to run away from Jongin.

“It’s your turn to cry.” Sehun says as he gives Tao a hug and lets his shirt be soaked by Tao’s tears. Sehun now throws a can to Kris who fiercely looks at him. But Kris instantly goes to where Tao is. Jongin follows Kris by his eyes and there he sees Sehun looking at him. He feels guilty.

“Tao.” Kris mumbles. And it’s like, all the alcohol and drunkenness he feels earlier disappeared when he sees Tao’s tear-strained face. He lifts Tao’s chin up and Sehun goes out of the bar, with Jongin.

Tao sniffs when he feels Kris’ touch once again. He bows his head and he doesn’t know what to say. “I’m sorry.” Kris says as he holds the loved one into an embrace. And Tao thinks that this is better than any other words of forgiving a person, Tao hugs Kris back.

Kris doesn’t expect the hug but then he has to explain everything to Tao, “Tao, I’m sorry. I just threatened Sehun—“ “For me... I heard everything Kris and it’s my fault. I’m sorry.” Tao tightens his hug on Kris, not wanting to let this guy go once again.

“No... It’s fine that you left me because there I realized that I should’ve treasured you more than anything in this world. I should’ve showed you I love you more. And you saved me Tao; you protected me from my father. You saved me from that organization. That illegal organization.” Kris now realizes that if Tao didn’t run away, Kris might have held the organization long ago. And he’s happy that he did not.

“What will happen now?” Tao then breaks the hug and asks Kris who is the son of the organization. “We’ll tell everything to the Byuns.” Kris is determined, even though doing this will change his life. His father changed many lives.

Luhan is the one who’s with Kyungsoo now, in the same room the next day. He leans Kyungsoo who is crying on his shoulder. “You should’ve brought the handkerchiefs I gave you.” Luhan tries to be funny but he knows that Kyungsoo can’t. Well, at least he tried.

“Am I a replacement?” Kyungsoo asks Luhan and Luhan is taken aback, because being a replacement sucks, Kyungsoo continues, “Because in Mom’s life, she thought I could replace Jongin. And in Jongin’s heart, he tried to replace me in Sehun’s place.”

And Luhan shakes his head in disagreement, “No you’re not Kyungsoo. You deserve to have a space in their hearts and you know that. You will never be a replacement.”

“But hell, I once thought the Jongin can replace me in this world. Am I that bad person? I lied to him.” Kyungsoo tells everything to Luhan so Luhan understands. So he continues what Kyungsoo is saying, “To protect him.”

“From what?” Protecting Jongin is truly Kyungsoo’s reason, but he finds it wrong. Then Luhan tells Kyungsoo, “From sadness.”

“But I am still the reason why of that sadness, fuck it. I am protecting him from sadness but I am the one who brought it. I’m really stupid, right?” Kyungsoo rolls his eyes at his realization. And he just wants to bury himself there and everywhere.

Luhan cannot say no to Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo really is the one who brought sadness to Jongin’s life, but “You are also the one who brought happiness in his life. Don’t forget that.” Luhan reminds Kyungsoo. “But still, there’s sadness.”

“And nothing survives in this world without sadness. No one can experience happiness when they haven’t been sad in their entire life.” Luhan explains to Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo agrees but still, he can’t smile... because he won’t be happy when Jongin is sad.

“Should I say sorry to Jongin?” Kyungsoo asks Luhan. Luhan looks at Kyungsoo and answers Kyungsoo with a question, “If he deserves to have an apology.” And Luhan realizes it. “Yes, he deserves to have an apology. And hey, I should go now because I still have something to do.”

Kyungsoo then smiles at Luhan to give thanks. “You should be getting there and working yah!” Luhan scolds and holds Kyungsoo’s hand to stand him up. Kyungsoo willing-fully accepts it and went to serve the customers for one last time. Luhan soon bids goodbye to them and goes to the business he has.

As soon as they knew that everyone’s ready to tell the customers the news, Suho goes in the middle of the place with the members lined up straight just behind him, Chanyeol, Baekhyun, Kyungsoo, Sehun, Kai, Chen, Xiumin, and Lay. All of the employees were bowing their heads to apologize. Suho starts, “It’s painful...” and he gulps, everybody is listening and they don’t know what is going on but then they can see the sadness and pain these guys were feeling right now, “We’re sorry to inform you that... The cafe and restaurant, EXO Planet, will soon be closing.”

And there they got all the whispers of the customers to each other, and the questions of ‘why,’ ‘since when,’ ‘what happened,’ ‘how did this happen.’ And the members just bowed their heads, letting the owner of the cafe and restaurant explain. “The city is forcing us to close because they own this lot where the cafe and restaurant is located. I did... We did everything to not let this happen but... We’re sorry.”

And Chanyeol closes his eyes and starts the music, “Oooohhh...”

“This is our last song for you.” And JeHee goes inside the cafe and restaurant to support and cheer for them.

Kyungsoo and Baekhyun start tearing up too since they were the ones who are always messing the cafe and restaurant.

They were sorry because they demanded so much from this group when they hadn’t realized that these guys also have their own lives; also have emotions, that’s why they also feel what a normal person is feeling. Thus, being tired and sad is being one of those.

Tao then smiles at them and as Chanyeol us about to sing the next line, he stops him and lets him sing. “Jikyeojugosipeo...” | I want to protect you | Kris who is finally inside the cafe and restaurant sings and Kyungsoo tears up more, knowing that Kris accepts to be with them.

“Please come back.” Baekhyun crouches down and hides his tears with his legs, Kyungsoo then goes to Baekhyun’s side and pats his back while letting his tears and smile meet the eyes of the people who make him smile, sad, guilty, and cry.

She is crying because she cannot do anything to bring those who left back to their world. And she is crying because she can only support and love them right now.

She soon realizes that behind those smiles and energy she sees every single day, they hold these kind of sadness and disappointment in them, even blaming themselves for being not enough to anyone who left their world.

Jongin just stands there, tears dropping in every second he sees everybody sad and crying; when he sees Kyungsoo this sad and lonely. He lost his parents, Jongin lost hope in their relationship, the café and restaurant, their world, is closing… Jongin wants to hug him right there and now. But he doesn’t. Then someone bumps his shoulder and goes to Kyungsoo and JeHee to embrace them. Sehun drapes an arm over Kyungsoo who is hugging JeHee and an arm over JeHee, pulling her closer.

Luhan sings the next line because he knows that it is difficult for Kyungsoo to sing now. And he admires the latter one on how he can still sing in spite of the happenings in his life right now. He can still sing beautifully and Luhan is so lucky to hear it, “Eonjena geu jarie gidaryeo jun neo
