One True Love

~Kai's P.O.V ~
Soo Young's words hit me like a bullet between the eyes. I stared, searching her expression for a sign, some sign, any sign that this was some kind of joke. But her expression didn't change. i sat there waiting, willing, wishing Soo Young would take back her words. How could it be true?
I started remembering things I didn't want to.
It was my birthday and Roxanne had planned me a party. She invited all her and my friends. First it was only going to be a small get together but then it turned out that our friends brought their friends along so in the end it turned out to be quite a big party. I couldn't find Roxanne anywhere. I thought she ditched me so I started drinking, taking out my anger because of alcohol. Then Soo Young came. She brought me more drinks, which I drained down. In the end, I could faintly remember me taking her into one of the rooms. Or was it the other way round? I'm not sure. I was so drunk that I couldn't even think about what I was doing. Soon, Roxanne came looking for me and found me and Soo Young doing stuff.

It had been the first time for me.
The one and only time.
My gaze fell away from Soo Young to the still-sleeping contents of the buggy.
A baby.
A child.
My child?
"I don't believe you." I stood up on my feet. " My name isn't even on the birth certificate. How can you be sure it's mine?"
Soo Young's lips tightened, her brown eyes turned obsidian dark. Her expression hardened like she'd been turned into a stone.
"I don't just sleep around. I haven't been with anyone but you. And if you say that again, I'll slap your face." she stated icily. " And For your information, I couldn't put your name down on the birth certificate because you weren't there with me when I went to register Jessica's birth. I was told I could only put down your name if you were present or if we were married." She glared at me. I stared at her finding it harder and harder to breathe. " Look, I... I didn't come here to argue with you. That wasn't my intention."
"Then why did you come?"
"Kai... I need to talk to you but I'm running out of time."
"I don't understand."
I didn't understand a lot of things. Soo Young had turned up at my house and thrown a bomb into my whole life. A bomb that was still sleeping peacefully in it's buggy.
"How... how come you didn't have an abortion?" I asked her and she shrugged.
"Kai, I thought about it. A lot. For weeks and months. But in the end I didn't." She said.
"why not?"
"Because from the time I found out I was pregnant, Jessica never felt anything less than real to me. So how could I go through wih it? I just couldn't do it. "
"Did you.... did you think about giving her up for adoption after she was born?"
She studied me, her face a mask. "You blame me." She said quietly.
"No. No, I don't... I'm just trying to wrap my head around all this." Trying and Failing.
"I took one look at Jessica and I couldn't do that either. My aunt did her best to persuade me but I just couldn't. My mum had already chucked me out for getting pregnant and my aunt only agreed to let me stay because I said I'd have her adopted once it was born." She started sobbing. I really didn't know what to do. "Your mum kicked you out?" i didn't know what to say either. "Why didn't you let me know?"
She gave me the faintest of smiles. " What would you have done?"
" I... I... I have no idea. But to go through all that alone....."
"Kai, you had trouble holding a bag containing a pooey nappy. You held Jessica like she was a ticking bomb. So what is that you think you could have done?"
My blank look was enough answer I guess. " Exactly." She glanced down at her watch. " Jongin.. could you do me a favour?"
"What?"
" Could you look after Jessica for a while? I need to pop in to the shops and buy some more nappies and some other stuff."
Hell no! "Why don't you take it with you?"
"Stop calling her 'it'. And Jessica doesn't like to be moved so soon after falling asleep. She'll wake up and cry and get really miserable."
How exactly was that my problem?
Execpt the baby was supposed to be... my....my.... mine.
"Please Kai. I'll be back really soon. She'll be asleep for a couple hours now."
"Soo Young please. I have no idea what to do if she wakes up." And god knows that was the truth.
"Don't worry. I'll be back in fifteen minutes okay?" She said, already walking out of the door.
"You can't just dump her on me!" I protested.
"Oh god, I'm coming back aren't I?" She said, not looking back.
"You can't just leave your baby here." I insisted. " I was going out."
"Yeah but not immediately. You said you were waiting for your exam results. I'll be back soon." She said. " And she's not just 'my' baby. She's your too. Remember that." With that, she walked away, not giving me a chance to talk back. I opened the door and looked around the corridor but she was gone. I walked back into the sitting room to see the baby's buggy. I had a kid. Called Jessica. My daughter....
Oh god...
What was I going to do?
Mr Lee...
What was he going to say?
And EXO?
And Roxanne?
Oh God...
The doorbell rang.
Soo Young. She'd come back. Thank goodness. But that was quick... Oh I got it now... She was going to tell me this was all a joke. I wrenched open the door.
"Hi! Package for Rose Roxanne that needs signing for and some- well lots of letters." said the postman cheerily.
In a daze, I scribbled across the electronic signature box. He handed me the package and the letters. I thanked him and he moved on to the next appartment. I placed the letters that belonged to the others down on the table and the package. I opened my envelope.

Than I heard the metalic sound of the key clicking the door open. They're back already? What am I going to do with the baby?
