Hide And Seek

The Tree

With a look of solemnity, the mansion seemed to have everything it should have. A restaurant-like kitchen, a huge dining area, two huge master’s bedrooms, four neat guestrooms; with bathrooms in each room, servant’s quarters, a large living room, two large basements, a library, and a personal prayer room. The house was neatly furnished with heavy curtains covering the windows as the household’s owner peeps through it. He was taken away by an eerie sound of the huge mansion doors swinging open as he turns his head to see his sister. She skipped towards him as he turned away.
“What brings you here,” he asked as he held onto his cane lightly. His sister did not speak as she instead walked by him, tugging onto his legs. He tried to shoo her away, but she wouldn’t let go. Wiggling his legs lightly didn’t do any good either. She hugged onto his leg, until he could no longer move an inch with it. He eyed her lightly as she took in with the contact, but all she could give was an innocent stare.
He was impatient, as he knows that simply asking her to go away would never work. He tried grasping onto something and used his leg’s strength to pull the other one out of her embrace, but it only caused him to trip which made her giggle. He gave a disgusted expression as he walked away, but she started to follow him to the couch.
The girl sat down comfortably with her legs barely reaching the floor as the elder faced her. Her lips started to move as she finally started to talk. “Oppa, I want to play with you.” Her eyes could show off her innocence as she swayed her short legs playfully. Her bother could only frown at how his patience gets shorter every time she’d ask him to play. He didn’t want to and there was no way he was going to play with her in public although, he also didn’t want her to interact with other children.
Yes, he was strict, for all he knows was that keeping her safe is what’s best for everyone. He picked her up as he had her cradled in his arms and brought her to her room where one of the maids exited after she renewed the beddings to the child’s bed. Before she exited, her master eyed her fiercely and she understood that she should keep her mouth zipped and words reserved about the matter.
Yoongi put her down on the bed and left the lonesome girl inside. The room was huge, too huge for a girl alone. It was one of the two large master’s bedrooms. Along with it was a nice view of the playground she went to earlier and the group of friends she encountered was still there, laughing happily. She envies the view she’s seeing. People are happy talking and bonding to others, while she’s inside the prison of their own home. She needed some company and all she had was the cat that pranced around everywhere, but it was not with her now. It’s outside. Their mansion doesn’t allow pets. She’d stare out the window for hours these past few days, and the time she could get out, she’d still obey her brother’s rules although she’d already break it earlier. Being trapped was the worst feeling ever. She’s a child of seven years of age. She’s supposed to play around with fellow children, but no, she’s stuck inside the mansion she dreamt of.
The man took a sip of his coffee and held his phone tightly as a woman spoke on the other line. He seemed calm, well both of them did, but with the sight of Joohee, his younger sister, made his blood boil. It was as if she was a nuisance to him, where in fact she didn’t mean any harm at all. He sighed as the woman continued to speak, but moments later, she seemed to bid goodbye as Yoongi ended it. “I love you, too. See you soon, honey.”
Joohee played with the dolls she has before her. It was in this cute little play set of a house painted in pink. It wasn’t her favorite color, but she’d commonly see it on television being advertised. It wasn’t like her old dolls that were sewed traditionally. They were made of a hard plastic material that she was unfamiliar of, but it seemed really pleasing to the eye. She made the doll walk towards her chest of toys as it slides down onto the floor. She laughed a little until she realized there was no use of the dolls giving her joy if she’s enjoying it all by herself.
Her hands curved into a small ball of a fist as she tried to break the glass window, but it wouldn’t budge. She just continues to hurt herself little by little. She was seated on the bunk by the window as she continued to hit the window as some of the little kids waved at her, thinking she was waving or gesturing at them. After all those failed attempts she continues, but a few drops of tears started rolling down her pale cheeks as it joins her.
The kids on the slide were fooling around as they waved at the girl from the mansion’s window and the other kids followed as it caught their attention. And the group of guys were chatting about their scary teachers that caught them doing things that they aren’t supposed to. They laughed on how they’d react, but the weird kids grabbed their attention as they looked up to where they were waving at. They couldn’t see from where they were at. “Are we in some weird reality show or something?” Jimin complained as he furrowed his eyebrows. They looked at him slightly, giving off a few chuckles as they searched for some hidden cameras or something that might have triggered the kids constant waving. Some of the children stopped and point at the child instead and some returned into paying attention to their turns on the swing set. “These kids are playing with us,” Namjoon commented as scrunched his forehead. “Oh like how you two play with those girls?” Hoseok stated jokingly before Namjoon gave him a glare. “Seems like it though,” Jin added as he tried to pull his friend away from his annoying cousin. “Yah. Just stop. Let’s go to this underground club instead.” Taehyung suggested as all of his friends looked at him. The alien-like member rolled his eyes as he nodded with the statement, “yeah, my treat.”
Joohee was nowhere in sight. She was knocking by her door as one of the maids let her out. She ran out of the door as she passed the living room swiftly where her older brother was in. As she was about to open the door he gave her a few words. “I’m coming with you.” He stood up and opened the door, grabbing onto the child’s hand.
They walked by the playground as some of the parents looked at the two at awe. There were some comments they’d hear from them and Joohee would just giggle along. Oh how sweet of Mister Min to play with his daughter. I didn’t know Mister Min had a daughter. Sweetie, looks like you’ll have a new friend! Son, go befriend her, maybe we’ll get some discount before we can pay our monthly bill. They passed by the group of boys she encountered earlier as they were about to leave and they bowed before they left since Mr. Min Yoongi was the developer of the growing community they have today. By the tree the boys were at earlier, the two stopped walking as Yoongi bent down and told her, “Don’t you ever return here again.” The little girl replied, “I want to know more, o-“ she was cut off as her brother left and her only choice was to follow. With a few whispering, she was gone. She’s not behind, in front, or beside the tree. She was nowhere to be found as Yoongi watched from afar.
