Hide And Seek

Worn Out Dress

The environment was at peace as newly built houses stood proudly with their new coats of paint of various colors. Moving trucks are everywhere and furniture are scattered all over individual lawns. Couches on some, boxes of toys on others, and the rest everything that just came out of the moving trucks they rented. Every one of the residents are new. New faces, new personalities, new neighbors. Children were still tugging on their parent's sleeve as they hold onto their favorite toy.
It seemed to be a happy neighborhood, with a few newborn babies crying, playful kids running around to make new friends with a toy or two in their hands, and the sighs of the tired movers after they got all the things out of their company's trucks. A new community starting out, a big success indeed, as the owner watched from the window of his mansion.
The Kim family was one of the newly moved residents of the said neighborhood as the married couple helped out the movers with the furniture. The couple's only son, Kim Namjoon, an active little boy were among the kids who decided to leave their parents with all the work and decided to mingle with fellow children. He held an alien plush toy which he got from a crane game from a local mall. As he was about to cross the street, a boy waved at him, inviting him to come over as Namjoon gave him a friendly smile in response. He crossed the street, walking towards two boys around his age.
"Hello! I'm Hoseok!" The boy who invited him over introduced himself as he pulled his cousin who was just standing awkwardly behind him. "Yah, go introduce yourself too," Hoseok told his cousin who took a few steps forward due to his instructions. Namjoon let out a soft chuckle due to the other boy's behavior.
"I'm Namjoon," he introduced himself before the latter could.
"Oh. Nice to meet you, Namjoon. I'm Seokjin," the awkward looking boy stated as his cousin pushed him forward.
"He's my awkward cousin," Hoseok added as he cheekily smiled.
"Ah, I see," Namjoon said politely as let out another light grin.
"Would you like to play with us?" Hoseok invited him.
"Sure. What will we be playing?" Namjoon replied, turning his head a bit as the corner of his eye saw someone from afar.
"Hide and seek, maybe?" Seokjin suggested.
"Uh, okay... Can we invite her over?" Namjoon asked as he pointed to the girl somewhere behind the developer's mansion.
"Who?" Hoseok asked as his eyes searched for the girl Namjoon was pointing at.
There was no one the kid could find. He was almost giving up, sighing a little and turned his head from left to right as his eyes continued to search for the girl. With a slight turn to the right, he almost jumped in surprise as the girl appeared in a beige floral dress.
"Na-na-namjoon!" He screamed.
"Yeah?"
"Did you- did- she- she just popped out of nowhere!" Hoseok exclaimed, frightened.
"Hoseok, she was there the whole time," Seokjin stated as he waved over to the girl.
"So can she join? She seems lonely," Namjoon said as he took a few steps forward, about to approach the girl until she ran away.
"Seems like she's already at it." The awkward boy spoke as he watched the little girl run away as her beige dress flowed with every step.
"So... Hoseok's it!" Namjoon said cheekily as he ran passed the clueless boy and Seokjin followed. The boy was completely dazed with his mouth wide open as his jaw almost reach his chest. Should he go ahead and play? He wasn't a kill joy. He actually has an outstanding personality, but the girl they saw gave him chills running down his spine.
The village was actually quite big with a forest-like space behind the developer's mansion, but maybe they wanted to start out with the front for awhile and make use of the space behind for more projects? Either way, it made a good hide and seek spot. A bit gloomy, but seems to gain interest from the kids because of their search for adventure and their thoughts full of imagination. It was like the perfect playground.
Namjoon seemed to be running after the girl. She couldn't run very fast because her legs weren't that long and she wasn't really much of a runner, but she wanted to stay hidden. But on the other hand, he was the complete opposite, tall kid, and has great stamina. It wasn't long before he caught up with her and took hold of her pleated dress to stop her. A soft giggle was heard as the girl faced him. "Please don't tell me you're it," the girl said as she puffed her cheeks, poking a finger on his chest.
"Ah- No, no I'm not," he replied with a smile.
"Hoseok is," he added.
"Who's Hoseok?"
"The kid with the long chin," He answered jokingly.
"Oh~ Him?" The girl pointed to the determined Hoseok who's a few feet behind the boy she's talking to.
Namjoon glanced at Hoseok who already found them and smiled invitingly, wanting to introduce his new friend. But as he turned to the girl, she was gone. She was nowhere to be found as the latter playfully head locked him after hearing his words.
"Yah!" Hoseok pulled him down violently, but in a very playful way.
"Ah~ Stop," Namjoon pleaded as his knees reached the ground. Hoseok released his neck as his victim rose up, glancing in different directions, and just watching him made the latter dizzy.
"I- I was going to introduce the little girl to you," Namjoon replied, sighing because he lost track of his new friend.
"Never mind then, maybe she went home. I found Seokjin earlier and he's waiting for us," the latter said as he rested his arm on his friend's shoulders. Namjoon nodded as they found their way out of the forest-like area.
"So, what was her name?" Hoseok asked.
"I didn't get to ask her," the younger answered.
