Fateful Encounter

I look at the clock, as Kai holds me tightly and see that it’s almost 11.
“S***!” Kai jerks back, startled, and looks at me with wide eyes.
“What’s wrong?”
“I have to get back home, I didn’t even ask to extend my curfew, but just told my mum I would be back at 11.” I explain. Kai’s face falls, but he smiles in understanding.
“Of course. I’ll walk you home. It’s dangerous to be out so late.”
“Ok then.” We both get up, and put our shoes on. Kai wraps his arm around my waist as me walk, but it still doesn’t keep me warm from the harsh cold. And especially since I’m only wearing a cardigan. I involuntarily shiver, and Kai looks at me. He removes his jumper, and slips it over my head.
“Thanks. But won’t you be cold?”
“I’ll be fine. You look nice, by the way. Did you do something?”
Thoughts of how I rejected Luhan suddenly flood my mind, and I feel so extremely guilty. However, feelings of happiness far outweigh those of guilt, and I just enjoy Kai’s company. I never realized how much I missed it, and it doesn’t feel like Kai and I were ever separated. His scent invades my nostrils, along with the slight mixture of smoke and something else, but I don’t mind it.
“TJ.”
“Yeah?” I feel as if I’m in a dream, so dazed by the fact that Kai is with me again.
“Did you do something?”
“Huh? Oh! Oh yeah, went out with my parents.” It’s a surprise to me how easily the lie slips out, but I’m too high on my happiness to think twice about it.

We reach my house, and Kai kisses me on the cheek before leaving. I walk into my house, and all the lights have been turned off. I creep up to my room, but before I reach it, the light in the common area is turned on.
“TJ. Where were you?” My mum sees the jumper I’m wearing, and raises an eyebrow.
“Kai and I are a thing again. Yay?” I try to pull off something cute, but mum only shakes her head.
“Tsk, tsk.” She doesn’t say anymore, and gets up and goes to her room. I don’t know if she’s going to blow up at me tomorrow or not, but oh well. I ready myself for bed, and check my phone. Nothing. What was I expecting? I slide under the covers, and begin to drift off to sleep.
Tonight, I’ll be able to sleep happily, but it’s troublesome that even though I’m happy, I don’t feel comfortable -like something is missing. I’m just making it up. I’ve gone so long without feeling complete that I’m probably still trying to adjust. Yeah, that must be it. Now that I’ve solved that problem, I roll over and fall into one of the better sleeps I’ve had.

Sunday rolled in, and I prepared for the next term of school. After this term, I would only have 1 month of school left, and then finals and graduation. Graduation. I would finally be free of the hellhole called school, and free to do what I want. I can go to uni, or do something meaningful. I even have the time to go on a road trip. I only have to endure these last 4 months. But of course, now that I have Kai back, enduring will be easy. You really don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and I’m one of the lucky few who got back what was taken from me, and I know for sure I am not letting it go.
Kai and I texted the whole day, and I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face. We were back as a couple, and life is now sunshine and rainbows.

I had never been a person who liked Mondays, but now, even Mondays don’t bother me. I get out of bed energetically, and start getting ready. I will see Kai again during lunchtimes, and the tree that we sit under won’t be painful to look at anymore. I wave goodbye to my parents as I head to school, and walk with a skip in my step.


The lunch bell rings, and I grab my lunch and dash for the tree. I don’t think I have ever been this excited. I’m smiling, and it turns into a grin when I see a figure under the tree. As I get closer, I can confirm that it’s Kai. I think I could explode with happiness.
“Hi!” I sit next to him, and he pecks me on the cheek.
“Hey.” His voice is husky. I had never heard it like this, but I like it.
“Have you already eaten?” I notice the lack of food he has.
“No, I didn’t bring my food.”
“Oh? Well, do you want some of mine?”
“No, it’s fine. I’m not hungry.” I can feel my lips turn into a frown.
“Are you ok?” Kai had never once rejected food, and he had always eaten something at lunch. He usually even complained that he was still hungry.
“Yeah, fine. Just not hungry.” He wriggle around, and played with the grass. Then he fidgeted with his shirt and wriggle around some more. Like he had ants in his pants or something. He had never been like this before. He never wriggled around or skipped lunch. I’m having my doubts that he’s telling me truth with being ok, but I don’t want to put tension on our relationship already, so I leave it.
“By the way, is your head better, now?”
“Yeah, it is. I got the stitches out a few weeks ago.” I observe how he talks to me, and there isn’t a change in it. He isn’t being cold. There’s only a change in his behavior. He doesn’t seem to be able to sit still anymore, and looks like he’s worried someone’s following him or something. Maybe he was always like this and I just never noticed? No, surely not? It’s worrisome, but I should keep my nose out of it.


As I walk home, I smile on reflection of my day. It feels like things are back to normal. My phone vibrates and I look at it. Surprisingly, it’s from D.O.

He says you’re back together??

Yeah

Why is D.O thanking me? I try to think of anything I could have done to require thanks, but come up blank. The topic isn’t of great importance, anyway, and soon I forget about it.

OMG i almost couldn't get into the site! I deleted the tumblr blog I use to get into here, and I wasn't being let into my account TT-TT
Luckily I just had to change the username of my new account, and I got in again. Whew!
