To Get a Date

Final

Your POV
I’m in the park like every day painting today is with watercolors and a new brush.
One of my friends, Kasey, runs up to me with a snow cone with the straws with scoops at the bottom, “I thought you’d want a treat for working so hard.”.
“You know I’m not working that hard,” I tell her well holding in my laughter.
“Oh is that true then I guess I’ll just wake that slushie from you.”
I hold it away, “I was saying I’m not working that hard at the moment today. I seem to be stuck.”
I look up at an apartment window to notice a cute looking boy. Instead of painting him, I decide that I’ll paint the two lovebirds in front of his window. I start painting the birds and the branch slowly drawing him his apartment window to notice the boy is no longer in the window.
"What was it you were saying?"
"I said you should try to find inspiration in a different spot I mean they haven't played soccer here in two months."
"I want to thank whoever it was that saved my life."
She simply sighs as she walks away only to come back with easels for my students.
"I don't know why you promised to help with your mother's art classes. I mean the kids have no respect for you."
"I know that's why today's class will be here. So I can try to teach some values."
I lean back in my chair as my best friend yells at me.
I sigh as I stand up and walk to the van to help load off chairs.
As I try to pull them out causing all of them to fall towards me.
I feel arms wrap around my waist and pull me out of the way.
"Thank you, you saved my life."
I look up to see that the guy that helped me might be the guy from the window.
"No need to thank me. I saw you needed help and I acted on it."
I smile at him, "Still thank you so much. You made it so I don't get to cancel class today."
"Class...?"
"Yes, I help out at a local school that my mom works at. Since I won all kinds of awards they pulled me into this mess."
“It can’t be that bad,” he tells me.
I smile, “You’re right on that it’s just that I like more finding your talent on your own instead of trying to have someone teach you talent. Not counting there are too many kids that take this class for me to watch on my own.”
“If you want I can try to help I have nothing else to do.”
I look up at him and smile, “Alright... Can you be our model for today?”
“What a model?”
“Yes, I think it would be perfect. You can watch that group of kids and be the model.” I smile as Kasey walks over, “We have a model for today.” I take the guy’s arm in my hands, “He said he’d be our model.”
Kasey looks at him and nods but still starts grilling him on who he was, etc... I mean it’s not like I’m letting him watch them on his own or going to hire him.
Finally she stops, “So, Daniel are you ready to be worked to the bone?”
He looks at her confused, “What do you mean?”
“____, here is a ruthless teacher and also it seems whenever she gets a model they quit after a day.”
“I think I can handle this,” he says to her and then smiles at me.
Neil’s POV
OMG this girl is trying to kill me.
No wonder her friend was talking about how she's ruthless.
After doing different poses of a soccer player and everything, she is now having me balance a stupid straw on my upper lip.
After a while, the straw is about to fall from my lip so I try to catch it with my mouth, but I don’t.
I hear a cute giggle coming from the teacher who is standing back watching me.
I know that I made a fool of myself in front of her, but hearing her laugh it makes it worth it.
Your POV
When he tried to catch a straw in his mouth it made me giggle, but one of my students starts complaining so I bark an order at Daniel to do it again much like when I had him do the poses before.
I feel sorry, because Kasey was right I’m a ruthless to the models and even my students but they are used to it.
This guy, Daniel, he just volunteered after saving me from being crushed by ten easels and 20 chairs.
I look at the time I don’t know how much later and call it a day, “Okay everyone time’s up please put away your supplies properly and carry your own easel and chair to the truck so we can put them away.”
The students nod their heads, take the sketchbooks that they were drawing on, and handing them to me as they walk away with their easels and chairs.
I turn to Daniel and smile at him, “I’m sorry I was a bit ruthless, but it’s a force of habit to me. Still thank you so much for saving me earlier and dealing with me through the entire class period most of the time people storm out because I’m being mean.”
He shakes his head, “No, I’ve been through worse. I was in soccer with my friends for a while.”
I laugh at him, “Really I love playing soccer. That’s one of the reason’s I like this park, because no matter the season they’ll be playing sports especially soccer. I play with the little one’s that come here once in awhile.”
I look down at my dress glad that it’s warm today and I’m wearing shorts under it as I bend down to pick up a sketchbook that fell.
I look up to see that Daniel was looking at the straw in his hand until he asks me, “____ I was wondering if sometime you’d like to go out with me?”
I look at him and smile again, “I’m not sure I’m a pretty busy person.”
“What if I hold this straw on the top of my lip for the entire time helping you load everything back into place?”
Let’s see what my answer will be.
He’s helping me with loading the easels and chairs into the truck bed well balancing the straw on his upper lip.
We're almost done when the straw falls from his lip and he pouts.
I find it somehow cute seeing him pout the way that he is.
“Daniel I’ll go on a date with you,” I tell him.
he smiles at me and laughs, “Really you’ll go on a date with me?”
“Do you not want me to agree? I said I would, but you have to tell me by tomorrow who is an artist that caught my eye to bring me into the art world?”
Before I can leave, I hear him mumble something about Rosa Bonheur and Georgia O’Keefe.
I turn to look at him surprised, “How did you know those two are top of my list?”
“Your bag,” he points to it, “I saq that I have their work is designed onto your bag. I helped a girl a while back who had an entire book on female artists that she dropped. I hadn’t found her so I kept the book hoping that I’d run into her or catch her looking for it. I haven’t yet. Those two pages that she marked were about those two women. I enjoyed their art the most even though they lived not that long ago. Sure, a hundred some years have passed but they were still artists who did what they loved. Much like you do.”
I smile at him and pull a small bracelet from my pocket, “I think I want my book back.”
He looks at me surprised, “You were the girl I saved?”
I nod my head, “Here, I think this is yours.”
He shakes his head, “No, you can keep it because my mother gave it to me a while back and I promised myself when I found a girl that I would want to be with I’d give it to her.”
I smile as I look down at the beautiful braided and weaved bracelet that has been a good luck charm since he saved me and it got caught on my shirt.
“So I guess you got a date, Mr. Ahn.”
“Please call me Neil,” he says in a sweet voice.
I smile as I nod my head, “Alright, Neil.”
I smile as he lends me his arm as he walks me to the drivers side of my car and helps me in.
“So when will I see you next?” I ask.
“May I see your phone?” he asks me.
I hand him my phone and he enters his number than calls himself for he can save my number into his phone.
As he hands me back my phone he smiles and says, “Now anytime you like.”
