Kai's Cinderella

Family Time

Your POV Once Kai leaves with a note from his mother excuses him for being late with some bullshit lie.
When they left, I see Kai look back at me, and send me a smile 1 that tells me that I should be happy. I nod my head and give my brother-in-law a call telling him the good news.
In the wait for my brother-in-law to show up, I sing random songs for your brother. I sit here and sing until I hear a knock at the door and Dr. Kim is standing there with Eric.
“Hwa Young, I don’t get it why don’t you do classes for singing and dancing. Go up against your stepmother.”
I look at her like she’s insane. She’s the 1 patched that patched me up the last time I pissed off your stepmother enough that she had beaten me that badly.
Eric looks at me, then my brother, and smiles, “Hi Kwan, I’m Eric you may not remember me very well but at the time you were awake I was just your oldest sister’s boyfriend. This is our daughter Nana she’s turning 4 this year.”
Nana looks at my younger brother with curious eyes. She just stands there by her father until she looks up at me sitting on the end of the bed. She runs up to me and looks at the cards. I pick her up, set her on my lap, point to my brother, and whisper his nickname into her ear making her giggle.
“Bāozi,” the way she says it makes his face melt into a peaceful smile.
I smile when my phone starts going off and Angel by Teen Top starts playing making me laugh.
I look to see that it’s my father calling, “Appa.”
There’s no sound but breathing that’s ragged.
“Appa you're not one to joke around what’s wrong?”
I hear a lot of coughing knowing that he’s been smoking again. Something he had promised never to do again but here he is smoking away giving himself coughing fits. Something must be bothering him.
“Appa, is something wrong?” I can't help but to ask.
“No, nothing’s wrong,” he’s lying to me; I can tell right away when he says those simple words.
Still I let him believe that I believe him, “Appa, did the hospital call to tell you that Kwan is awake now?”
“No, they didn’t I’ll have to stop by and see him as soon as I get off work.”
“Alright appa. I’ll see you then,” I tell him even though I’m trying to hide the worry from my voice.
“Alright I’ll see you in a few hours alright sweetie?”
“Ye,” I say as cheerful as I can.
In hearing, a more hopeful and cheerful voice come from my father as he says his goodbye and tells me how he loves Kwan and me. I smile but it drops when I see my little brother sitting there with my niece in his lap who has been trying to make him smile.
He ignores her efforts, looks up at me, and asks, “He’s not coming is he?”
“Of course he is he promised he would and he’s never 1 to break a promise.” I sit by him, “Remember when we were young and he never thought that we would work together and clean the house before he met our stepmother.”
He laughs, “Yeah of course I do and he had to carry us for a week no matter where we wanted to go. He was so tired by the end of the week.”
I laugh as I nod and move Nana so that she’s sitting on the bed.
I smile at your brother, “Or the time where he never thought we would remember an entire dance routine.”
My brother pulls himself up slowly and looks at me and the 2 of us start slowly dancing the dance that the 2 of us had made the year before he had went into his coma. We do the dance until I realize that Kai is standing behind because school had let out for some holiday.
“Wow guys that dance was amazing,” he looks me in the eye, “I didn’t know you could dance like that.”
I can’t help but to act proud and look him in the eye, “There’s a lot you don’t know about me, Kim Jongin.”
He lifts his eyebrow but shrugs his shoulder as he hands me a few slips of paper, “These are the papers that the teachers gave me for you, but I still think you may have to check in with them when you get to school just in case.”
I smile at Kai and thank him as I walk over to my brother and help him to his bed.
“Sorry Bāozi I shouldn’t have had you dance like that.”
He shakes his head and hugs me like any younger brother would with their sister, “No, it’s was really fun sis I enjoyed every second of it.”
Nana was curled up in the corner of the bed with a cheeky smile on her face making the 2 of us giggle. I try to pick her up but she reaches forward and grabs a hold of Bāozi. Who puff his cheeks out as he blushes a light pink. I laugh and lean over kissing her forehead causing her to wake up. Nana looks up at me then Bāozi before she leans over and kisses his forehead and she wraps her arms around me so I can carry her to her father who’s sitting in the corner on his laptop doing something.
“Eric, what are you doing?” I ask him as I draw near him.
He shuts his laptop and puts a finger to his lips, “It’s a surprise alright.”
I simply nod my head as I point to his daughter who has a death grip on me and cute little puppy eyes starting to appear on a sleepy and dazed face.
He simply laughs and picks her up from my arms and asks me to slip his computer into his bag so I simply listen to him and ignore my curiosity. I hand him the bag as he slips it over his shoulders as he carefully moved his daughter so that she wouldn’t fall.
I never felt jealous of the 4 year old but looking at her now, I feel a bit of jealousy burn through me.
She has a loving father that is doing everything he can to make sure she’s happy… Well my father doesn’t know a single thing that is happening in my life. He has yet to notice the beatings, or noticed that I quit dance and drawing the 2 things I live for.
Eric heads out to leave but not before he gives my brother and me a hug and kiss on the forehead.
I smile as he leaves and sit by my brother and he looks up at me, “Sis can you sing a song for me?”
I nod my head and think of a song that I’ve been listening to a lot lately. When I end the song, my brother is smiling like a silly fool. Still it was all worth the heartache I feel when he smiles like that. It still wounds me that the ‘accident’ had happened when I was out of the house.
“Family is family and they come first.”
I hear Kai get up from the chair he must have sat in and he starts clapping, “Hwa Young that was beautiful.’
I look back at him surprised and bow to him slightly, “Thank you.”
“Sweetie why haven’t you sung that for a long time?” my father asks me as he slowly walks into the room.
I’m tempted to yell at him about his evil wife and her daughters but instead I keep silent.
Still my silence and stare down at my brother then looking up at Kai when i hear him say, “Hwa Young-ah, are you hungry?”
Looking up I look at him shocked, “My mom told me that you’ve been here all day and haven’t eaten. I’m heading to the cafeteria anyways so do you want me to pick you up something?”
“Yeah, can you get me a sandwich and a small a bottle of coke?”
He nods and goes to get me what I asked him.
My father stares after him and asks me, “Is he your boyfriend?”
“Aniyo, Appa! Kai is just a friend. God I’m not my step sisters I don’t date. I don’t even hang out with people outside of school. I work, go to school, eat, and sleep that’s all I do now a days, but what would you know of my life?” I yell all of this at him finally feeling some weight lift from my chest.
Still I’m glad I didn’t say anything about my stepmother and sisters and how the family life that I once knew was gone and I believe that I’ve been living in hell.
My father stood there surprised and my brother woke up to my loud voice.
He looked at me then our father only to glare at him and say in a dead tone, “Leave. Appa, leave I don’t want to see your face.”
Standing there shocked that his children all of a sudden said this to him, he left to room wondering what had happened well he was gone from our lives.

@alwaysdreaming
It's okay, it's a pot and kettle conversation here. I haven't written in months because school is dragging me down. As we get closer to the end of the year more work adds up and so does the stress. Anywho, eagerly awaiting the next installment! Fighting!
